Job Description

The Underwriter is responsible for sourcing product, decisioning loan requests, negotiating purchase money loans through communicating with Dealerships.  The position will require relationship management with dealerships in a defined market and will follow up on approved business to acquire the loan.  This position is responsible for making prudent credit decisions within established guidelines, in compliance with all state and federal laws, as well as OneMain Financials policies and procedures.
**In the Role**
+ Develop and maintain relationships with Dealers who provide significant benefit to OneMain
+ Consistently review and discuss with dealerships all opportunities and ensure quality service is being provided.
+ Actively communicate and conduct outreach calls with existing dealerships proving the value One Main is delivering to the dealer
+ Utilize key metrics to strategically improve volume results.
+ Analyzes credit bureau reports evaluates stability, ability, willingness, and collateral/equity position of customer and makes decisions regarding the credit worthiness of customers within approved limits.
+ Responsible for analyzing highly complex financial and credit information according to internal underwriting standards while complying with Fair and Responsible Lending Practices, identifying, and processing potential fraud.
+ Responsible for providing strong and clear communication to internal and external partners to ensure quick turnaround time.
+ Meets production and goals while maintaining underwriting integrity through working knowledge of sound underwriting principles, policies, procedures, and controls to ensure overall profitability of product line.
+ May review more complex loans requiring exceptions.
+ Works collaboratively with other team members and mentors less experienced underwriters and support staff
**Requirements**
+ HS Diploma or equivalent

  • Active CHUMS # required (may be obtained after satisfactory training/ transition period)
  • SAR ID# and SONYMA experience preferred.

Job Description

Essential Functions

  • Underwrite business purpose bridge or construction loans in compliance with credit guidelines.
  • Review loan files for completeness, identify missing documentation, and approve borrower background.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Processors, Managers and Closers to communicate guideline requirements and finalize loan scenarios.
  • Must be able to prioritize time sensitive deadlines.
  • Manage pipeline of 60+ loans with efficiency and accuracy.
  • Analyze valuations for accuracy, risk and detail review of comparable market sales.
  • Participate in weekly pipeline meeting.
  • Identify and evaluate strengths, mitigating factors, and weaknesses of the loan request and escalate risks and issues.
  • Prepare and submit exception memos for scenarios falling outside guidelines.
  • Perform duties and responsibilities specific to department functions and activities.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as required or assigned by Manager.

  • Financial analytical analysis with math and general accounting knowledge.


Education and Experience

  • 2 years’ experience underwriting business purpose and/or multifamily, commercial lending.
  • 2 years’ experience reviewing guarantor and borrower background reports, valuation analysis, including entity documentation to determine ownership and borrower structure.
  • 5 years of analytical experience within financial services, commercial banking, or business purpose lending.
