Job Description

Position OverviewThe Trauma Resource Nurse (TRN) has responsibility for concurrent trauma performance improvement and patient safety activities for the Trauma Center, working closely with the Trauma Medical Director (TMD) and Trauma Program Manager (TPM), to assure the provision of safe, efficient and effective clinical care to all injured patient by continuously monitoring, evaluating and measuring processes and clinical performance to reduce variation and improve clinical care.

The TRN has responsibility for clinical integration with the trauma registry by working closely with the TPM and Trauma Registrars to assure accurate, concurrent clinical data abstraction and entry into the trauma registry.

The TRN maintains clinical credentials and competencies as a RN to assist clinically with trauma patient care within the hospital as needed.

$40.70 - $1.05 per hour, depending on experience

Education/Experience

Minimum Required:

  • Bachelor's of Science in Nursing.

  • A minimum of three (3) years of relevant trauma clinical experience in an in-patient setting and the trauma resuscitation area of a Level I or Level II trauma center.

  • Proficient computer skills – Microsoft Office Suite software programs & databases.

Preferred:

  • 2-3 years of experience in performance improvement.

  • Proficiency working with clinical data registries.

  • Completion of the Trauma Outcomes & Performance Improvement Course (TOPIC)

  • Completion of the American Trauma Society’s Trauma Registrar Course

  • Completion of the Association for the Advancement of Automotive Medicine’s Abbreviated Injury Scaling (AIS) Course

  • Completion of Trauma Care After Resuscitation (TCAR) course

License/Certification

Minimum Required:

  • Registered Nurse – valid NYS license.

  • Current CPR Certification.

  • Current provider certification in Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC) or Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses (ATCN).

  • Helipad Operations and Safety within 3 months of hire.

Preferred:

  • Current instructor certification in the Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC) or Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses (ATCN)

  • Current Trauma Certified Registered Nurse (TCRN)

  • Current Certified Specialist in Trauma Registries (CSTR)

  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt

**The role you'll contribute:**

Responsibilities:

The Trauma Nurse Coordinator collaborates with the Trauma Program Manager, Medical Director, unit leaders and other members of the Trauma Program for planning, development and implementation of program goals and operations to provide excellence in patient care. The Nurse Coordinator promotes use of evidence-based guidelines, ensures compliance with state and national standards of care, assists with program quality management, and monitors performance measures. The Nurse Coordinator demonstrates a firm clinical knowledge base in trauma or burn care and systems theory, exhibits clinical leadership, promotes professional development, and is a change agent/role model. The Nurse Coordinator provides ongoing education and training for both Legacy nursing staff and the greater communities Legacy serves. Serves as a liaison between hospitals, physicians, pre-hospital providers and administration and supports regional outreach strategy. In addition, the Nurse Coordinator is responsible for assisting Legacy Health facilities in meeting the requirements of trauma or burn specific regulatory bodies.

Qualifications:

Education:

Academic degree in nursing (BSN or MSN/MN) required; MSN/MN preferred.

Experience:

Minimum one year of experience in caring for trauma patients in an acute care, emergency, or critical care unit required, three to five years preferred.

Knowledge/Skills:

Advanced expertise in the area of responsibility.

Competence in application of the Nursing process.

Ability to apply relevant theories and management concepts.

Understanding of patient care cost and reimbursement information.

Judgment, tact and diplomacy skills to interact with a broad spectrum of departments, physicians, patients/families, health care team members, professional colleagues and community members to effect desired outcomes.

Ability to organize, prioritize and apply problem solving skills.

Understanding of hospital systems.

Ability to negotiate, collaborate, delegate and effect desired changes.

Ability to apply appropriate teaching and learning principles for staff development.

Must possess strong communication and leadership skills, including ability to lead by example.

Excellent interpersonal skills in order to work with multi-disciplinary staff, physicians, and managers throughout the organization.

Keyboard skills and ability to navigate electronic systems applicable to job functions.

Licensure:
  • Current applicable state RN license required.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
  • Certification in Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses (ATCN) or Trauma Nurse Core Curriculum (TNCC) is strongly preferred.
  • Certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) is preferred.
