Job Description
Provide general patient care following standardized procedures that do not require state licensure for Critical Care, under the direction of an RN, according to the assigned patient population. Primary patient procedures include ADL's, nutritional support, vital signs, phlebotomy. In addition to PCA duties, may be requested to watch monitors.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Under the direction of an RN, perform selected tasks and activities to obtain and report information to assist the nurse in the assessment, planning and evaluation of patient needs, treatment and response to treatment.
- Under the direction of the RN, perform selected patient related activities, diagnostic testing and therapeutic treatments which contribute to safe and efficient delivery of patient care.
- Utilize initiative to respond to patient needs, effectively communicating with other team members to provide excellent quality service.
- Responsible for following all organization and department precautions and procedures in the performance of all job duties to ensure a safe work environment for self and others.
- Order and maintain supplies/equipment within budget parameters. Ensure cost-effective utilization of resources within own control.
- Participate in staff meetings, attends in-services and maintains required general/unit/department specific competencies.
- Support and participates in the QI process.
- Observe the cardiac monitor. Print rhythm strips, perform measurement, identify and record patient's rhythm pattern. Recognize and communicate any changes in patient data to RN and/or medical staff.
- Perform related duties as required.
- Good oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- CPR certified.
- Ability to read and write English with a command of verbal English.
- Ability to work well and collaboratively with other members of the health care team
- Ability to maintain patient confidentiality.
- Ability to work in a time-oriented environment including exposure to all patient elements i.e., blood borne pathogens, physical requirements include lifting and pulling of patients, pushing of stretchers, standing and walking.
- May be exposed to environmental hazards such as anesthetic gases or elements.
- Ability to meet the care needs of the patient populations served.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Successful completion of Certified Nursing Assistant Program required.
- Successful completion of WH Basic ECG Interpretation and Cardiac Monitoring Course for Monitor Watcher required.
- Successful completion of a formal training program to include direct patient care activities and technical procedures such as: EKG testing and Phlebotomy
- Must have basic computer skills and ability to access internet and other programs applicable to Waterbury Hospital procedures.

Under the direction of the Vice President Patient Care, the incumbent will ensure provision of high quality patient care to a specified patient population that meets the standards of local, state, and national regulatory bodies and professional organizations. This position is responsible for providing and developing professional leadership in the nursing organization; coordination, implementation, administration, and evaluation of nursing care to patients and families; ensuring that high quality, cost effective nursing care is delivered and works to integrate the goals of the service and the hospital.
The individual in this position will assure the work environment adheres to regulatory requirements and departmental practices and processes reflect high quality standards which support excellence in patient care and a safe environment for patients, employees, physicians, visitors, and guests. Additionally, they must assure quality standards are implemented and maintained. The position ensures revisions to processes are updated and revised as appropriate. The position will monitor metrics to validate performance against national and system benchmarks and to ensure the delivery of competent clinical practice is consistently achieved.
Essential Key Job Responsibilities
1. Monitors metrics to validate performance against national and system benchmarks; ensures the delivery of competent clinical practice.
2. Develops leadership within the hospital which supports and maintains excellence in the standards of research based nursing practice.
3. Develops, integrates, and implements goals of the hospital and nursing into their service line(s).
4. Leads quality programs and works to develop action places for continuous improvement.
5. Develops, reviews, and maintains fiscal budget within established targets. Monitors overtime, labor costs, medical supply expenses, and works with purchasing partner to obtain strong supply contract pricing.
6. Assures staffing patterns are flexed and according to unit activity and patient acuity.
7. Develop and manage the annual capital budget, establishing equipment priorities based on patient unit needs, physician recruitment activities, and revenue potential.
8. Develops a climate within which professional nursing can thrive and grow.
9. Develops a program of nursing that ensures recruitment of the highest caliber of nurses and the most effective retention of nurses within the service.
10. Collaborates with other members of the management team, physicians, and other departments to facilitate the delivery of patient care.
**Job Requirements**
Required Education and Experience:
*Bachelor's degree in Nursing; Master's degree in Nursing, MBA, or MHA (Internal candidates are required to complete Master's program within 3 years)
**Four (4) years of nursing experience in a tertiary acute care hospital and a minimum of five (5) years of management experience at the nurse manager level or above.
*Excellent clinical and operational skills.
Required Licensure and Certifications:
RN:TX
AHA BLS-CPR (14 day grace period)
AHA ACLS (6 month grace period)

Responsibilities- Completes care for adult and geriatric patients as assigned by the registered nurse.
- Assists the registered nurse with the admission assessment by obtaining temperature, respiration, height, weight, pulse and blood pressure. Orients patient to room and unit.

Summary:
Provides routine direct and indirect patient care in a hospital, clinic or home health care setting. All work performed is under the direct supervision of a registered nurse or physician.
Responsibilities:
1. Assist physicians and other health care providers with routine examinations and procedures, as well as procurement of equipment and supplies during emergency situations.
2. In the psychiatric setting, aids patients in reality orientation, participates in behavior modification plans/therapy, provides informal support therapy to patients/families, provides verbal de-escalation of potentially aggressive patients, aids in the physical management of aggressive/out-of-control patients, facilitates age appropriate play for children, and monitors the therapeutic milieu activities on assigned unit to ensure that emotional and safety needs of patients are met.
3. Observes, collects, and documents patient information obtained while providing care and promptly report significant changes in the patient's condition to a registered nurse or physician.
4. Provides assistance to patients and their families during admission to the clinical area, orientation to the hospital/clinic/home health experience, and discharge

Provides care/ treatments to patients as outlined in plan of care including, but not limited to, the measurement of vital signs, height and weight, specimen collection, skin preps/scrubs, catheter care, capillary blood glucose checks, simple wound care, range of motion exercises, postural drainage, and supportive 11 patient and family interactions.
6. Provides direct personal care to patients as outlined in plan of care for routine activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, feeding and assisting with ambulation.
7. Provides indirect care to patients and assigned area to include, but not limited to, cleaning the work area, changing linens, re-stocking supplies, cleaning/sterilizing instruments, transporting patients/ supplies/ specimens, assisting in the orientation of new employees and students, and some routine clerical functions.
8. Reinforces routine teaching given to patients by the registered nurse or physician and document patient understanding of instructions. Distributes patient education materials at the request of patients and/or health care providers.
