Job Description
At Fern, we believe every software company should offer a world-class API. We're building the toolkit to make that possible. We enable customers like Square, ElevenLabs, Webflow, and Intercom to offer a best-in-class developer (DX) and agent experiences (AX).
Our team is primarily ex-Palantir and ex-founders, working together from our office in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. We give builders the autonomy to take ownership, the speed to move quickly, and the support to do the best work of their careers. Fern is growing more than 5x year-over-year, is at the Series A stage, and has raised over $10M from Bessemer and Y Combinator.
Why you should work here:
- Experience a hyper-growth startup: Join a top-decile growth company early. You'll get firsthand exposure to how a startup scales with visibility into product, engineering, design, and go-to-market. Thinking of founding a startup someday? This is the place to learn.
- High trust and autonomy: You'll have ownership over meaningful projects from day one, with the freedom to shape technical decisions and influence product direction. We trust engineers to figure out the best path forward-without micromanagement.
- We move quick: Your code will ship quickly and be used by our customers within days (and sometimes hours). We prioritize shipping fast, and invest in the developer experience toolchain to make that possible.
- Few meetings and bureaucracy: No bloated sprint rituals or unnecessary status updates. Just clear priorities, thoughtful async communication, and space to build.
- Palantir-inspired customer obsession: Many of our engineers come from Palantir and bring the same focus on solving real customer problems. You'll work directly with users to tackle their top developer priorities and shape the product through hands-on feedback.
As a TypeScript SDK Engineer at Fern, you'll define what great looks like for modern TypeScript SDKs-making them idiomatic, reliable, and delightful to use. You'll own parts of our open source compiler, shaping the core abstractions behind all generated SDKs. You'll also stay deeply connected to the TypeScript community, evolving the SDK based on real-world developer feedback and emerging best practices.
- Define TypeScript best practices. You'll set the tone for how a modern TypeScript SDK should feel - readable, idiomatic, and a joy to use. We're constantly raising the bar to make our SDKs the best in the industry. This is more than code generation; it's about crafting TypeScript libraries that developers trust and love.
- Build out our compiler. You'll own core components of our open source compiler, defining the primitives that power every one of our SDKs. You'll implement new capabilities like auto-pagination and server-sent events, and push the boundaries of what a generated SDK can offer.
- Engage with the TypeScript community . You'll stay on top of modern TypeScript tools and frameworks, incorporate best practices, and work directly with developers through GitHub issues and community forums to evolve the SDK based on real-world needs.
- 3+ years of software development
- Strong communicator; comfortable solving technical problems with customers
- TypeScript proficient with willingness to work across multiple languages
- Deep experience with modern TypeScript tools, such as turborepo, vite, and zod.
- Strong grasp of TypeScript's evolving ecosystem - from runtimes like bun and deno to emerging standards like Next.js.
- Enthusiasm for shaping language communities, like Niels, our C# engineer who actively engages with the .NET team.
- Experience with OpenAPI, AsyncAPI, Protobuf, Conjure (Palantir), Smithy (AWS), Coral (Amazon)
- Your personal GitHub profile is a deep green from commits and side projects
- Prime office location in the heart of Williamsburg, Brooklyn
- Bonus $18,000 per year for living close to the office
- Free meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner)
- Health, dental, and vision insurance
- Unlimited vacation
- Flexible WFH policy
- Domestic and international team offsites
About the interview:
- Phone screen with a Fern engineer
- Three interviews: one coding, one system design, one behavioral
- Come onsite to meet and work with our team
TypeScript Engineer position

Job Description
Title: TypeScript Engineer position
Location: Hybrid 3-4 days onsite - must sit in either Glendale, CA, Seattle, WA, or Bristol, CT, Manhattan, NY
THIS IS NOT A FRONT-END ENGINEER.
What their team is doing are very API-driven TypeScript-driven projects. Looking for someone with STRONG TypeScript knowledge, and familiarity with API development, not front-end, as the majority of the work they are doing is very API-driven. They are a TypeScript team, and they are a Sr TypeScript team, so the expectation is anyone coming in, even at the P2 level, would understand TypeScript, not just JavaScript, but understand what makes TypeScript different, and how to use the power of what TypeScript brings in. The majority of the work is someone who knows how to create APIs. Not that they integrated APIs, but know how to build APIs, since their team is on the side that is creating the APIs for integration. So, the expectation is that they are familiar with REST and know how to create REST services, the HTTP methods.
Candidates should have Unit Testing experience, should be standard, and that's more of a skillset that can be taught. The mocking is less standard, but very valuable. So if they have familiarity with it, and created a Mock, or understands what it takes to Mock data, that would definitely be a highlight. The manager also mentioned that if we get the sense that the candidate is a lean in problem solver, that Trumps everything. He can teach someone how to write unit tests. It's a lot harder to teach someone how to be a problem solver, where they're hungry to jump in. His team is like that. They have a lot of internal stakeholders, and the people that really stand out are the folks that don't need him to tell them every step of the way. They can solve problems on their own and come back and have the personal skills to be able to communicate their ideas. Problem Solver Mentality.
Candidates must also provide their link to their public repositories so that the manager can see their TypeScript project examples, and they must show up on their public repos.
Top 3 skills sets needed: REST in Typescript, TDD, APIs
Misc. Info: Must give last four SSN, Birth mm/dd and email address
