The efforts associated with this program will help restore and maintain the material condition and modernization of the fast attack submarines of the United States Navy.
Requirements:
- 2+ years' experience performing repair work on nuclear submarines within the trade they are being assigned.
- HS/GED
- Must be US Citizen.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain Secret Clearance.
Shipfitter Tasks:
- Rip-out, alter, repair, and install ship's structure.
- Template, layout and fabricate structures and fittings including bulkheads, equipment foundations, hangers, ladders, stanchions, brows, accommodation ladders, and guards.
- Remove and install corrosion-prevention plates (Zinc)
- Perform the following operations: punch, drill, ream, tap, and template cutting.
- Fit-up and make ready for welding, including chipping, nibbling, beveling, hand-grinding and cleaning of surfaces to be welded.
- Perform excavation of pits or defects in ship's structure, including pressure hull and frames.
- Perform post weld cleaning of ship's structural repair areas.
- Remove and reinstall tank access covers in support of other work.
Shipfitter Skill Requirements:
- At least 2 years naval or commercial ship repair experience, or equivalent experience in a heavy industrial environment performing the Typical Trade Task identified.
- Trained and qualified to wear respiratory protection devices IAW 29 CFR (Subpart I).
- Proficient at removing, altering, repairing, and installing ship's structure.
- Knowledgeable and proficient in the following skills: manufacture templates, layout and fabricate structures and fittings including bulkheads, equipment foundations, hangers, ladders, and stanchions; fit-up and make ready for welding, including chipping, beveling, hand-grinding and cleaning of surfaces to be welded.
- Proficient at performing post-weld clean-up of ship's structural repair areas and removal/reinstall of tank access covers in support of other work.
- Trained and qualified to wear respiratory protection devices IAW 29 CFR (Subpart I).

Personnel shall have DOD type “final” security clearance (DISCO authority with a minimum of a confidential clearance status).
At a minimum, all personnel shall be United States citizens and shall possess a final favorable adjudicated tier 3 investigation. Contractor personnel must have a Department of Defense Personnel Security Clearance (PCL) at the confidential level or higher.
Pipefitting
Pipefitter Non-Nuclear (TSD P1): Fabricate, install, modify and repair piping/hoses in the shop and aboard ship. Layout, template, target, bend, assemble, install and prepare pipe for welding or brazing. Make various kinds of pressure joints within the piping system.
Pipefitter Non-Nuclear Piping System Testing (TSD P3): Inspect and test piping as required to certify systems. Check out, troubleshoot, groom, modify, repair and test ship’s installations. Hydrostatic test, component checks, adjustments, alignments and operational tests on piping systems. Remove valves and install jumpers, blanks, test equipment and pumps to ready system for preliminary air test, hydrostatic test and flushing.

The likely hourly rate for this position is between $39.56 - $53.52. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.

Welder Tasks
- Perform structural welding of deck structures, support braces, foundations, or hangers using one of a number of processes such as shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) or gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) onboard submarines, in buildings and in the field.
- Prepare finished welds by hand grinding or burring to meet visual acceptance standards.
- Set up and operate stud welding equipment as needed onboard submarines, in buildings and in the field.
- Install hot work protection and/or build weld containments for fire prevention.
- Perform firewatch duties during welding operations.
Requirements
- 2+ years' experience performing repair work on nuclear submarines within the trade they are being assigned.
- HS/GED
- Must be US Citizen.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain Secret Clearance
Welder Skill Requirements
At least 2 years of experience welding in a heavy industrial work environment such as ship building, power plant construction, commercial building construction or bridge construction.
Qualified per Technical Publication S9074-AQ-GIB-010/248 with the following essential elements:
Welder Qualification record verifying tests performed in three positions. Alternatively, the welder tests may be performed in the 6G position (from TP-248) provided the test is performed using a singular weld process. No dual process qualifications will be accepted. The welder qualification test record shall include at least the following information:
- Welder Identification (Full Name at a minimum)
- Date of test
- Qualification Test thickness - test assembly thickness .375" or higher
- Qualification test process (SMAW, GTAW, or GMAW as applicable)
- Qualification test position (2G, 3G, 4G, or 6G)

The welder qualification test shall be performed as follows:
- The qualification testing shall have been performed with an approved Butt weld joint design from MIL-STD 22
- The filler material to be used during testing shall be MIL-9018-M, 10018M, 10718M, 11018M, 12018M or 14018M for the SMAW process
- The filler material to be used during testing shall be MIL-100S-1, 100S-2, 120S-1, or 140S-2 for the GTAW or GMAW process. The Qualification Test shall be evaluated IAW with the requirements contained in S9074-A-GIB-018/248 (performed IAW T9074-AS-GIB-010/271, (TP 271) evaluated to class 1 requirements of MIL-STD 2035). Qualification tests shall be evaluated visually and by Radiography, ultrasonically, or by bend testing. The qualification shall have been maintained by actual use of the welding process quarterly (evidence of maintenance for process use shall be maintained for the current and preceding quarter)
- Jaeger J-1 or equivalent Annual Vision certification (glasses or no glasses)
- Undergo training to self-identify and correct poor workmanship. This training is a 40-hour course that includes a written and practical examination. A grade of 80% or better is required on each to be considered passing.
- Trained, qualified fit to wear respiratory protection devices IAW 29 CFR (Subpart I). Welder Technical Standards National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Standard 51B, 2014 Edition - Standard for Fire Prevention during Welding, Cutting and Other Hot Work. Personnel shall have at least 2+ years' experience performing repair work on nuclear submarines within the trade they are being assigned.
Personnel shall have DOD type "final" security clearance (DISCO authority with a minimum of a confidential clearance status).
At a minimum, all personnel shall be United States citizens and shall possess a final favorable adjudicated tier 3 investigation. Contractor personnel must have a Department of Defense Personnel Security Clearance (PCL) at the confidential level or higher.
Pipefitting
Pipefitter Non-Nuclear (TSD P1): Fabricate, install, modify and repair piping/hoses in the shop and aboard ship. Layout, template, target, bend, assemble, install and prepare pipe for welding or brazing. Make various kinds of pressure joints within the piping system.
Pipefitter Non-Nuclear Piping System Testing (TSD P3): Inspect and test piping as required to certify systems. Check out, troubleshoot, groom, modify, repair and test ship's installations. Hydrostatic test, component checks, adjustments, alignments and operational tests on piping systems. Remove valves and install jumpers, blanks, test equipment and pumps to ready system for preliminary air test, hydrostatic test and flushing.
Pipefitting Tasks
TSD P1 (Non-Nuclear Pipefitting):

Welder Tasks
- Perform structural welding of deck structures, support braces, foundations, or hangers using one of a number of processes such as shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) or gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) onboard submarines, in buildings and in the field.
- Prepare finished welds by hand grinding or burring to meet visual acceptance standards.
- Set up and operate stud welding equipment as needed onboard submarines, in buildings and in the field.
- Install hot work protection and/or build weld containments for fire prevention.
- Perform firewatch duties during welding operations.
- 2+ years' experience performing repair work on nuclear submarines within the trade they are being assigned.
- HS/GED
- Must be US Citizen.
- Confidential Security Clearance or higher level required.
Personnel shall have DOW type "final" security clearance (DISCO authority with a minimum of a confidential clearance status).
At a minimum, all personnel shall be United States citizens and shall possess a final favorable adjudicated tier 3 investigation. Contractor personnel must have a Department of War Personnel Security Clearance (PCL) at the confidential level or higher.
Welder Skill Requirements
At least 2 years of experience welding in a heavy industrial work environment such as ship building, power plant construction, commercial building construction or bridge construction.
Qualified per Technical Publication S9074-AQ-GIB-010/248 with the following essential elements:
Welder Qualification record verifying tests performed in three positions. Alternatively, the welder tests may be performed in the 6G position (from TP-248) provided the test is performed using a singular weld process. No dual process qualifications will be accepted. The welder qualification test record shall include at least the following information:
Welder Identification (Full Name at a minimum)
Date of test
Qualification Test thickness - test assembly thickness .375" or higher
Qualification test process (SMAW, GTAW, or GMAW as applicable)
Qualification test position (2G, 3G, 4G, or 6G)
Qualification test base material type
Qualification test filler material type and size
Qualification test results

- Set up and operate stud welding equipment as needed onboard submarines, in buildings and in the field.
- Install hot work protection and/or build weld containments for fire prevention.
- Perform firewatch duties during welding operations.
- 2+ years' experience performing repair work on nuclear submarines within the trade they are being assigned.

Personnel shall have DOW type "final" security clearance (DISCO authority with a minimum of a confidential clearance status).
At a minimum, all personnel shall be United States citizens and shall possess a final favorable adjudicated tier 3 investigation. Contractor personnel must have a Department of War Personnel Security Clearance (PCL) at the confidential level or higher.
Welder Skill Requirements
At least 2 years of experience welding in a heavy industrial work environment such as ship building, power plant construction, commercial building construction or bridge construction.
Qualified per Technical Publication S9074-AQ-GIB-010/248 with the following essential elements:
Welder Qualification record verifying tests performed in three positions. Alternatively, the welder tests may be performed in the 6G position (from TP-248) provided the test is performed using a singular weld process. No dual process qualifications will be accepted. The welder qualification test record shall include at least the following information:
Welder Identification (Full Name at a minimum)
Date of test
Qualification Test thickness - test assembly thickness .375" or higher
Qualification test process (SMAW, GTAW, or GMAW as applicable)
Qualification test position (2G, 3G, 4G, or 6G)
Qualification test base material type
Qualification test filler material type and size
Qualification test results
Certifying signature (fabricator, test administrator or quality assurance officer attesting to test conditions and results)
The welder qualification test shall be performed as follows:
- The qualification testing shall have been performed with an approved Butt weld joint design from MIL-STD 22
- The filler material to be used during testing shall be MIL-9018-M, 10018M, 10718M, 11018M, 12018M or 14018M for the SMAW process
The filler material to be used during testing shall be MIL-100S-1, 100S-2, 120S-1, or 140S-2 for the GTAW or GMAW process.
The Qualification Test shall be evaluated IAW with the requirements contained in S9074-A-GIB018/248 (performed IAW T9074-AS-GIB-010/271, (TP 271) evaluated to class 1 requirements of MIL-STD 2035). Qualification tests shall be evaluated visually and by Radiography, ultrasonically, or by bend testing.
The qualification shall have been maintained by actual use of the welding process quarterly (evidence of maintenance for process use shall be maintained for the current and preceding quarter)
Jaeger J-1 or equivalent Annual Vision certification (glasses or no glasses)
Undergo training to self-identify and correct poor workmanship. This training is a 40-hour course that includes a written and practical examination. A grade of 80% or better is required on each to be considered passing.
Trained, qualified fit to wear respiratory protection devices IAW 29 CFR (Subpart I).

The SUB AIT program supports the In-Service Attack Submarines Program Office (PMS 392) under Program Executive Office Attack Submarines (PEO SSN) to achieve optimal submarine operational readiness by providing /production support, component repairs and technical support to accomplish repair, maintenance, removal/installation, troubleshooting and associated testing for Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) submarine maintenance availabilities.
The efforts associated with this program will help restore and maintain the material condition and modernization of the fast attack submarines of the United State Navy.
Requirements

Shipfitter Tasks
Rip-out, alter, repair, and install ship's structure (frame structure, metal deck plating and grating, hull fittings such as davits and fairleads, chocks, scuttles, sockets and deck rails.
Template, layout and fabricate structures and fittings including bulkheads, equipment foundations, hangers, ladders, stanchions, brows, accommodation ladders, and guards.
Remove and install corrosion-prevention plates (Zinc)
Perform the following operations: punch, drill, ream, tap, and template cutting.
Fit-up and make ready for welding, including chipping, nibbling, beveling, hand-grinding and cleaning of surfaces to be welded.
Perform excavation of pits or defects in ship's structure, including pressure hull and frames.
Perform post weld cleaning of ship's structural repair areas.
Remove and reinstall tank access covers in support of other work.
Shipfitter Skill Requirements
At least 2 years naval or commercial ship repair experience, or equivalent experience in a heavy industrial environment performing the Typical Trade Task identified.
Trained and qualified to wear respiratory protection devices IAW 29 CFR (Subpart I).
Proficient at removing, altering, repairing, and installing ship's structure.
Knowledgeable and proficient in the following skills: manufacture templates, layout and fabricate structures and fittings including bulkheads, equipment foundations, hangers, ladders, and stanchions; fit-up and make ready for welding, including chipping, beveling, hand-grinding and cleaning of surfaces to be welded.
Proficient at performing post-weld clean-up of ship's structural repair areas and removal/reinstall of tank access covers in support of other work.
Trained and qualified to wear respiratory protection devices IAW 29 CFR (Subpart I).
