Position Summary:

The Underwriter / Senior Underwriter, Growth & Middle Market is responsible for the submission generation, underwriting and policy issuance of Directors and Officers Liability, Employment Practices Liability, Fiduciary Liability, Fidelity insurance, Kidnap & Ransom and Cyber Liability for entities that meet the GMM account definition within the Central Region.

The Growth & Middle Market department works with privately held companies with annual revenues of less than 1 Billion and publicly traded companies with annual revenues of less than 500 Million. This will be a hybrid (2 days onsite) position in Chicago, IL.

Position offered will be dependent upon the individual candidates qualifications.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Underwrite and price products, to include financial and exposure analysis
  • Monitor new business flow, quote ratio and hit ratio from each target agency to monitor variances to plan. Develop strategies to correct variances with each agency.
  • Represent Arch and Executive Assurance professionally whether internally or externally at agent offices or industry events.
  • Attendance at meetings with outside company management
  • Policy contract review and rating
  • Claims review
  • Binding of new and renewal accounts according to our underwriting philosophy and strategy
  • Provide monthly forecasts for new and renewal business and regular reconciliations to such forecasts. Be able to provide detail as to variances from forecast, include new business results, lost business and pricing changes.
  • Service brokers and customers, to drive new business opportunities via existing relationships as well as where there is no existing relationship; continually prospects for new opportunities.
  • Coaching and developing the more junior underwriters in the region

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • 1 to 5 years of public D&O underwriting experience
  • Exemplary oral and written communication skills
  • Analytical, with a keen ability to think through issues
  • Solid understanding of financial statements
  • Strong customer-service focus
  • Ability to develop strong relationships with brokers in order to successfully manage our business which will require travel to producer location or insured location.
  • Able to organize and prioritize to meet multiple demands and commitments
  • Ability to work independently as a member of a team working to build a profitable book of business
  • Effective negotiation skills
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel and Outlook

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors Degree, ideally in Economics, Business, Finance or Accounting
  • RPLU or CPCU designation preferred

For individuals assigned or hired to work in the location(s) indicated below, the base salary range is provided. Range is as of the time of posting. Position is incentive eligible.

85,000 - 105,000/year

  • Total individual compensation (base salary, short & long-term incentives) offered will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to geographic location, scope & responsibilities of the role, qualifications, talent availability & specialization as well as business needs. Job Summary

James River Insurance is hiring in its Environmental underwriting division and will consider hiring at the Underwriter, Senior Underwriter, Underwriting Specialist and Executive Underwriter levels. The successful candidate will be responsible for selecting, reviewing, modeling, analyzing and underwriting complex submissions within the context of applying the divisions underwriting guidelines and standards; determining the proper terms and conditions for acceptable risks including rating the account to develop the appropriate premium; and developing and maintaining profitable business relationships with brokers.

Responsibilities

As a Sr Commercial Lines Underwriter , you will be responsible for managing and growing your assigned book of business and acquiring new business. Your tasks include:

Qualifications/Competencies:

  • 10+ years of commercial insurance experience required in addition to Bachelors degree or equivalent.
  • Advanced knowledge of insurance principles, rates, rules, forms, procedures, regulations, coverages, and business processes required.

We'll count on you to:

Chubb is seeking a Private/Not for Profit (PNP) Executive Underwriter that will help to execute growth and underwriting business strategies by implementing established action plans and goals for the Birmingham Branch. This position will work within the local branch and Financial Lines teams to achieve profitable underwriting results through the growth, development, servicing and underwriting of Private & Not-for-Profit business of all sizes.

The Private Not for Profit book has a sizeable premium base in the region, which is produced from many trading relationships spread around the geography. The region itself consists of five branches including Atlanta, Charlotte, Tampa, Nashville and Birmingham. We are looking for someone with a strong sense of responsibility to ensure our obligations are made and kept with agency partners. The candidate will build strong relationships with our distribution partners to be successful. The individual will need the ability to effectively communicate and leverage relationships with other business units to create a win win environment and help profitably grow Chubbs business.

Responsibilities

Profitability and Production:

  • Helps deliver on the established New and Renewal business goals as exhibited by the Financial Lines Branch plan.
  • Help drive P&L accountability including responsibility for premium, profitability, growth, retention, and expense plans/results. This may include weekly projections/forecasts as well as business and budget planning produced by the branch.
  • Ensure profitability through underwriting integrity by meeting all underwriting standards as outlined by Financial Lines Home office and all applicable Underwriting Guidelines, Authorities, Playbooks and Position Papers including:
    • Risk Selection
    • Pricing & Attachments including Rate Change Goals
    • Terms & Conditions
    • Manuscript Form & Endorsement processes
    • File Construction and documentation

Producer Management:

  • Partners with the local Chubb branch team to enhance producer relationships and results.
  • Develops and drives new business including completing target account responsibilities.
  • Implements sales management process including business plans for key producers.
  • Collaborates with other business units to drive growth and implement cross sell strategies within Financial Lines and across the P&C teams in Small Commercial, Commercial Insurance, and Major Accounts.
  • Collaborates with Renewal Underwriting Service Branch to maximize efficiency of qualifying business; leverages NBS and online quoting capabilities to enhance efficiency and support new business generation; pursues small Financial Lines business in conjunction with Small Commercial sales reps embedded locally or within the region.
  • Represents Financial Lines in the marketplace amongst brokers, customers, competitors, and industry organizations; must be able to play a key leadership role accordingly.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 3-5 Years Underwriting Experience with strong knowledge of Private/NFP products, underwriting, marketing and the competitive environment.
  • Knowledge, skills and abilities in revenue generation, staff leadership and producer management.
  • Exhibited competencies in communication, collaborating and executing strategy.
  • Well-established track record of overseeing a profitable book of business and high level of underwriting expertise.
  • Strong presentation skills and effective communication of strategies, goals and plans.
