**General Summary:**
The Underwriting Consultant will demonstrate expert risk evaluation, selection and retention of profitable business within assigned authority limits. This also requires a strong ability to partner with Company sales teams, brokers and all internal partners. This role may also assist with the training, technical development and mentoring of other underwriters. Additionally, the incumbent will lead and influence others in the organization to support change and drive profitable results.
**Principal Duties and Responsibilities**
+ Consult with sales and service partners to provide the products and plan options that best meet the needs of our customers.
+ Evaluate and select risk to ensure the profitable acquisition of new cases and the continued profitable retention of in force cases.
+ Conduct high quality risk assessments on all cases to assure business guidelines, target profit and metrics are met. Identify and analyze risk trends, making recommendations for addressing these
+ Contribute to the development of policies and procedures in support of product development initiatives.
+ Demonstrate a mastery of the Company's product portfolio, the sales, implementation, and enrollment processes, and market place influences
+ Deliver dependable, accurate, and timely service while maintaining relationships with internal and external partners
+ Act as a technical resource for junior underwriters and provide developmental feedback on case level decisions within the context of a mentoring relationship
+ Act as a mentor and coach, providing input to management regarding mentee performance

+ Bachelors degree or equivalent, relevant business experience

The **Group Underwriting Consultant** is responsible for determining acceptability of insurance risks and appropriate premium rates for large and complex group cases. Position is a technical underwriting expert.
**How You Will Make an Impact**
+ Calculates renewal rates for large complex cases based on thorough analysis of experience, location, demographics, etc.
+ Determines and provides guidance to medical underwriters concerning the risk selection of applicants applying for individual health coverage.
+ Coordinates with other departments to ensure accuracy and consistency of overall account reporting.
+ Proposes rates for prospective business utilizing a combination of other carrier experience, demographic data and manual rates.
+ Performs post-sale reviews.
+ Prepares or supervises preparation of annual settlements, ERISA reports, rate projections, or benefit change increments and decrements.
+ Surveys existing product portfolios by market, monitors sales results, trends and needs, recommends product portfolio changes.
+ Assists in establishing rating and administrative procedures.

**Minimum Requirements:**
Requires a BA/BS in a related field; Minimum 5 years of related experience; or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background.

+ CPCU, CLU, LOMA, HIAA, PAHM or other insurance related courses preferred.

+ Oversees and coordinates workflow for the underwriting team

The **Group Underwriting Consultant** underwrites and prices complex large group new business for the seven states in the west region. This is a highly visible role offering exposure to senior stake holders while working on accounts up to 15,000 members.
**How You Will Make an Impact**
Primary duties may include, but are not limited to:
+ Participates in training of underwriting staff and sales staff.
+ Calculates renewal rates for large complex cases based on thorough analysis of experience, location, demographics, etc.

The Loss Mitigation Underwriting Manager will manage a team of Loss Mitigation Department Underwriters to achieve maximum performance in assisting CMS customers with available loss mitigation options. **What you'll do:**
+ Manage employees in such areas as workout technique, underwriting methodology, income calculations, net present value results, account recognition, and customer service.
+ Prepare reports and track results and trends within the Loss Mitigation Underwriting Department.
+ Oversee daily team operations; provide guidance and direction in daily workflow and volume.
+ Provide consistent communication to the team regarding daily work goals, expectations, and any policy and/or process changes.
