General Purpose: Oversees the policies and enterprise systems for the UR Libraries, including the River Campus Libraries (RCL), and the Sibley Music Library (Eastman School of Music) Represents the UR Libraries in the Association of Research Libraries (ARL), where the UR Libraries play an active role. Has administrative responsibility for all library divisions, including budget and staff oversight, and acts as a principal fundraiser for the libraries as the University launches its next comprehensive capital campaign. Reporting to the Provost, participates as a member of the Dean's Council, the President's Cabinet, and sits on the Executive Committee of the Humanities Center.
**Essential Functions:**
+ Develops and articulates a bold, inclusive vision for the University Libraries that supports the teaching, learning, and research needs of students and faculty.
+ Advances the Libraries' global engagement and innovation in scholarly communication, digital scholarship, and open access.
+ Partners with senior University leadership on academic planning, institutional priorities, and the libraries' role in campus-wide initiatives.
+ Leads and overseas operations across all divisions, including the River Campus Libraries, and Sibley Music Library.
+ Develops and manages a consolidated annual budget of approximately 24 million and provides financial stewardship, resource allocation, and long-term planning. Ensures spending is within budget.
+ Directly manages and supports a large team across diverse library functions and units, providing mentorship, setting priorities, and overseeing workflow to ensure high-quality results.
+ Approves hiring decisions, provides training and ongoing supervision, addresses personnel issues and actions, and conducts performance reviews.
+ Serves as the principal fundraiser for the libraries, cultivating donor relationships and securing philanthropic support in alignment with the University's capital campaign.
+ Builds and sustains partnerships with alumni, donors, external organizations, and community stakeholders to elevate the visibility and impact of the libraries.
+ Develops, implements, and oversees policies, enterprise systems, and technologies that support library operations and digital initiatives.
+ Ensures the Libraries remain adaptive and responsive to emerging trends in library science, data management, and user experience.
+ Represents the University of Rochester Libraries in national and international forums, including the Association of Research Libraries (ARL).
+ Engages actively in professional associations and networks to shape the future of academic librarianship and scholarly communication.

**Brief Description of Duties:**
The Shields Lab at Stony Brook Medicine is seeking a research support specialist to assist the Principal Investigator and other laboratory personnel, including undergraduate and graduate students, postdocs and senior research scientists to lead advancements of research investigating the mechanisms of development and progression of pancreatic cancer. Our current focus is on an NIH-funded project investigating the role of G-protein regulated signaling in tumor metabolism and inflammation. We employ genetically engineered mouse models, complemented by a broad range of molecular, cell biology, histological, and omics methods. The ideal candidate will have Excellent written and verbal communication skills, excellent digital record keeping skills and strong organizational skills. **Brief Description of Duties:**

**Job Title:** Research Support Technician

**Position Summary:**
The Research Support Technician assists in the management and production of research animal colonies, performing husbandry, breeding, and technical procedures while maintaining accurate records and supporting researchers.
**Key Responsibilities:**
+ Monitor animal health and report any sick, injured, or distressed animals.
+ Perform routine husbandry: cage changes, feeding, watering, and maintaining clean housing.
+ Execute breeding plans, mating, weaning, and tissue sampling; document all activities accurately.
+ Respond to researcher requests and communicate colony status or issues effectively.
+ Maintain and monitor animal holding room environments; report equipment or environmental issues.
+ Restrain animals for procedures, assist with sample collection, and humanely euthanize as required.
+ Maintain equipment, including animal transfer stations, biosafety cabinets, and racks.

**Qualifications:**

+ **Experience:** 2+ years in laboratory animal care, veterinary technician work, or related field (no prior breeding experience required).
+ **Certification:** AALAS ALAT certification (or obtained within 12 months of hire).
+ **Skills:** Animal handling and restraint, record keeping, observation, teamwork, strong communication, organization, and ability to meet deadlines.
+ **Technical:** Basic computer skills (Mosaic, Microsoft Office), familiarity with lab equipment including barcode scanners and biosafety cabinets.
**Working Conditions:**
+ Exposure to animal dander, odors, bites, infectious or biohazardous agents, and cleaning chemicals.
+ Use of PPE including gowns, gloves, masks, and face shields.

The Research Care Support Nurse delivers direct patient care and ensures accurate data collection. The position requires a licensed practical nurse capable of performing clinical assessments, managing medical equipment, and supporting study-related procedures. The role is hands-on and patient-facing, with responsibilities that span both clinical and administrative functions. In this role you will:

  • Provide direct care to patients as directed by the physician or RN.

  • Place peripheral IVs for blood collection.

  • Perform nurse assessment for poor venous access.

  • Collect specimens and flush from peripheral IVs.

  • Evaluate abnormal ECGs in real time.

  • Perform nursing assessments and/or monitoring of patients.

  • Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to SOPs.

  • Assess patients and document findings at each clinic visit.

  • Adhere to established protocols, procedures, policies, lab manuals, and regulations.

  • Perform specimen collection including peripheral, port, and IV blood draws.

  • Collect and document vital signs and ECGs.

  • Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs) including bathroom, rooming, escorts, and providing personal items.

  • Route collected samples to appropriate departments for processing or analysis.

  • Ensure pharmacokinetic rooms are clean and ready for patient use.

  • Utilize electronic medical record systems, laboratory information systems, inventory systems, and communication tools.

  • Prepare and quality check sponsor-provided research collection kits.

  • Report non-conformance and non-compliance to appropriate personnel.

  • Maintain and handle ECG machines (clinic and sponsor-owned).

  • Communicate effectively regarding patient/sample data, inventory, and documentation.

  • Document and maintain records according to procedures.

  • Manage inventory of clinical and office supplies.

  • Support department process improvement initiatives.

  • Maintain required certifications.

  • Work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.

  • Collect and document source data.

  • Ensure timely adherence to protocol requirements.

  • Document protocol-specific tools and assessments.

  • Complete and submit data and query requests with source documentation.

You should have for this position:

  • Working knowledge of medical and oncology research terminology.

  • Working knowledge of federal regulations, good clinical practices (GCP).

  • Skills in communication with patients and physicians.

  • Current LPN License for the State of Tennessee

  • IV Therapy Certification
