Job Summary
Geisinger is proud to offer a Patient Care Tech a $1,500 sign on bonus for eligible candidates, $8.94 minimum hiring rate with increased rates for experienced individuals and up to 3 shift differentials for evening, nights, and weekend shifts! Job Duties
+ May perform a wide variety of advanced patient care duties under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and maintains the patient care and unit environment consistent with the policies, procedures, and practices. Meets the qualifications to provide care for patients in the specific age range on their assigned clinical area.
+ Provides enhanced patient care under the direction of the licensed nurse, which may include but is not limited to advanced dressing care, suctioning, removal of Foley Catheter and peripheral IV.
+ May perform venipunctures and skin punctures to obtain blood specimens according to Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute guidelines.
+ May perform daily, hands-on aspects of the storage, preparation and delivery of breast milk, infant and pediatric formulas.
+ Documents in the appropriate sections to create a complete and accurate medical record.
+ Identifies, observes, and documents the physical needs of the patient according to established standards. Reports any changes in patient condition to licensed personnel in a timely manner.
+ Obtains and maintains the integrity of specimens in accordance with policy and procedure, according to physician order.
+ Provides for or assists patients with activities of daily living and fulfills designated and delegated responsibilities for ongoing continuum of care. Includes patient hygiene and changing linens.
+ Provides one to one patient safety watch as assigned following established policies and procedures.
+ Accurately processes specimens and provides timely transport of the specimen to the laboratory.
+ Performs point of care patient testing and point of care instrument maintenance and quality control.
+ Assists in problem solving, trouble shooting and taking corrective measures in care and maintenance of equipment and supplies.
+ Serves as a preceptor and mentor for new staff and students in a positive manner.
+ Performs clerical duties for admissions, transfers, discharges, and deaths according to standards and facilitates patient throughput activities. Transcribes and processes orders according to unit standard.
+ Releases and confirms ordered tests to appropriate departments.
+ Coordinate's transportation of patients to multiple tests.
+ Participates in obtaining and communicating electronic information as pertinent to the nursing unit. Schedules tests, faxes consult, etc.
+ Assists in ordering supplies. Stationery items as well as floor stock, patient needs, individual nursing supplies.
+ Communicates with food services to ensure appropriate patient diets.
+ Operates, problem solves, and takes corrective measures for clerical equipment. To include scheduling maintenance of computers, fax machines, phones, etc.
+ Staff have access to non-controlled medications storage and supply areas and can transport non-controlled medications as necessary to meet the needs of the clinic or unit.
+ Assists with transporting non-controlled medications to and from Pharmacy and within the unit as needed.
+ Assists with transporting blood products to and from Blood Bank as needed.
+ Discharge follow up phone calls / coordinating virtual discharge appointment team.
+ Support / Assist staff with 5 min Drills and/or Quality Rounds - participate in regulatory readiness as needed.

**UPMC has an opening for a Casual Patient Care Technician, NS to join the Outpatient Emergency Department at Lock Haven!**
**Casual employees are required to work a minimum of 36 hours within a 6-week timeframe, with 24 of those hours being off-shift or weekend. This position will also be assigned one holiday per year!**
***Final candidates will be selected for a job title within the career ladder that reflects level of education, experience, and manager discretion at time of offer. ***
**Purpose:**
The Patient Care Technician provides routine patient care and supports the department services in accordance with established policies and procedures, and may be directed by the nurse or physician to assure that the highest degree of quality patient care can be maintained at all times. Must routinely perform the UPMC nursing core nursing assistant responsibilities including ADLs (bathing, feeding, transporting, toileting, ambulating, turning and repositioning patients. PLUS point of care testing (inc. blood glucose), weights, vital signs, I&O, telemetry monitor application/reapplication, HAC & PSI prevention (TEDs/SCDs). In addition, simple dressings, placement and removal of restraints, bladder scan, all specimen collections and ticket to ride. All competencies must be achieved. In addition to the standard required competencies, the Patient Care Technician will achieve and maintain competency and/or perform at least 1 or more of the following advanced skills based on department operational need: phlebotomy/venipuncture, peripheral IV removal, indwelling Foley catheter removal, basic arrhythmia, 12 lead EKG, and NG tubes clamping and removal.
**Responsibilities:**
+ Suggests and supports changes within the department. Assumes responsibility for assignment and views problems as challenges. Demonstrates awareness of behavior on the efficient functioning of the department. Supports department-based projects and quality initiatives.

+ In addition to the standard required competencies, the Patient Care Technician will achieve and maintain competency and/or perform at least 1 or more of the following advanced skills based on department operational need: phlebotomy/venipuncture, peripheral IV removal, indwelling Foley catheter removal, basic arrhythmia, 12 lead EKG, and NG tubes clamping and removal.
? High School Diploma or Equivalent ? Enrollment in a Nursing Program with:a) 1 year of general healthcare experience orb) 6 months experience as UPMC Nursing Assistant/CNA with PCT competency achieved within 120 days of hire/transfer/promotion or c) Completion of at least 1 nursing program clinical rotation required? Successful completion of UPMC Patient Care Technician class upon hire? Successful completion of basic information system training? Microcomputer experience preferred? Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing? Access to medications is limited to the distribution of the medical to the nurse.
**Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:**
CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire ACLS preferred
+ Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
+ Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal
+ Act 33 with renewal
+ Act 34 with renewal
+ Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
