Responsibilities:
+ Must routinely perform the UPMC nursing core nursing assistant responsibilities including ADLs (bathing, feeding, transporting, toileting, ambulating, turning and repositioning patients. PLUS point of care testing (inc. blood glucose), weights, vital signs, I&O, telemetry monitor application/reapplication, HAC & PSI prevention (TEDs/SCDs). In addition, simple dressings, placement and removal of restraints, bladder scan, all specimen collections and ticket to ride.
+ Assures equipment malfunctions are reported to the appropriate department.
+ Establishes appropriate and effective communication with other departments.
+ Contributes to the universal unit activities including, but not limited to, responding to call lights and telephones, passing meal trays, and transporting patients.
+ Demonstrates the ability to communicate clearly and effectively with all members of the health care team.
+ Develops and maintains productive working relationships internally and externally by demonstrating accountability for actions, enthusiasm, motivation and commitment to patients and colleagues.
+ Assists with physical, respiratory, and cardiopulmonary therapies.
+ Provides instruction to patients and their families under the direction of the RN. May apply, monitor, and remove patient restraints as per physician or hospital protocol.
+ Documents in the medical record according to established procedures.
+ In addition to the required standard competencies, the Patient Care Technician will achieve and maintain competency and/or perform at least 1 or more of the following advanced skills based on department operational need: phlebotomy/venipuncture, peripheral IV removal, indwelling Foley catheter removal, basic arrhythmia, 12-lead EKG, and NG tubes clamping and removal.
Schedule: Rotating weekdays, weekends and holidays. Rotating shifts include: 8AM-8PM, 10AM-10PM, 1AM-1PM.
Preferred Qualifications: Looking for a candidate with an EMT background/training or Phlebotomy experience. This role will function more as an ED Technician, not as a Nursing Assistant.
+ High school diploma or GED.
+ Must also have either a) 1 Year of general healthcare experience, OR b) 6 months of experience as UPMC Nursing Assistant/CNA with PCT competency achieved within 120 days of hire/transfer/promotion for those with less than 1 year of experience, OR c) enrollment in PT/OT/PA program or related healthcare training program with completion of at least one clinical rotation, OR d) completion of a bachelors degree in a health sciences field.
+ Successful completion of UPMC patient care technician class.
+ Successful completion of eRecord training.
+ Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)or Paramedic or currently enrolled in an EMT or Paramedic program preferred.

Purpose: The Histotechnician will process and prepare various types of tissue samples using a variety of techniques in a clinical laboratory.
Responsibilities: Demonstrate complete knowledge of CoPath related to Histology workflow. Comply with all UPMC and departmental policies, procedures and work practices. Demonstrates progression of skills towards working independently in an advanced staining area. Perform ancillary or miscellaneous tasks such as filing, cleaning, stocking supplies. Perform QC checks at each phase of processing/ staining Process and prepare surgical and autopsy tissue specimens for embedding, cutting, staining and coverslipping. Embed and cut specialized tissue based on location including minute biopsy protocols. Supports academic mission of department. Ensures all tissues are embedded and cut according to department specific protocols with proper orientation and complete sections including no folds, chatter, artifacts or floaters. Accurately prepares slides for microtomy using the barcode label in order to maintain correct patient identification throughout the process. Maintain instruments following quality control specifications and daily maintenance protocols.
High school diploma. Completion of the educational requirements needed to take the Histotechnician (HT) exam; successful completion of a NAACLS accredited HT program within the last 5 years or an Associate's degree or at least 60 semester hours of academic credit from a regionally accredited college/university with a combination of 12 semester hours of biology and chemistry. 1 year of clinical laboratory experience post-training is preferred.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances: Am Society Clinical Pathology Histology Technician (HT) certification from ASCP is required within 18 months of hire. Employees active in a Histotechnician position, on or before the effective date 1/1/2004, at a healthcare facility, are grandfathered regarding certification and will not need to obtain it unless they move into a different position that would require certification. UPMC Williamsport Laboratory is hiring a full-time Histotechnician to join our clinical team. This role offers a consistent 40-hour work week with rotating early morning shifts (5:00 AM1:30 PM or 5:30 AM2:00 PM), plus a monthly on-call rotation which includes weekends.
We're proud to offer a $15,000 sign-on bonus for experienced Histotechnicians (1+ years) and $12,000 for those with less than 1 year of experience. Key Responsibilities:Histology Workflow Expertise: Demonstrate full proficiency in CoPath software for managing histology workflows.
Sample Preparation & Processing: Accurately process surgical and autopsy tissue specimens for embedding, microtomy, staining, and coverslipping. Follow specialized protocols for minute biopsies and tissue orientation.
Quality Assurance: Perform quality control checks at each stage of tissue processing and staining to ensure optimal slide integrityfree of folds, chatter, artifacts, or floaters.

Histology Technician (HT) Certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) is required within 18 months of hire.
