The WLAN Architect will be responsible for the design, architecture, and optimization of enterprise wireless LAN infrastructure to ensure high-performance, secure, and reliable connectivity across hybrid and multi-cloud environments. JOB TITLE: Performance & Capacity Planning Specialist
AGENCY SUPPORTED: Department of Homeland Security (DHS) - USCIS OIT Architecture Engineering Support (AES2)

POSITION TYPE: Full-time
CLEARANCE REQUIREMENT: Must be able to obtain DHS Suitability security clearance, which typically requires 2-4 weeks for processing and must be completed prior to the start date.

The project supports USCIS's Office of Information Technology by delivering enterprise IT architecture, engineering, and solution development services. The team partners across OIT to plan, design, and implement enterprise performance and capacity management strategies that ensure IT systems are optimized to meet mission-critical demands.
The Performance & Capacity Planning SME will be responsible for developing and executing capacity planning strategies, forecasting production needs, and ensuring that IT and operational resources align with demand. This role focuses on minimizing bottlenecks, ensuring scalability, and enabling timely delivery of services. The SME will leverage analytical modeling, performance engineering, and forecasting practices to optimize enterprise system capacity and performance.
Responsibilities- Lead performance and capacity planning efforts for enterprise IT and operational systems.
- Forecast production capacity requirements to align resources with organizational demand.
- Identify and mitigate potential bottlenecks to ensure scalability and timely service delivery.
- Perform workload characterization, application sizing, and demand forecasting to support enterprise capacity needs.
- Conduct performance analysis and provide recommendations to improve efficiency, reliability, and throughput.
- Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to align capacity planning with enterprise goals.
- Develop and maintain documentation, capacity models, and performance metrics.
- Contribute to modernization initiatives by incorporating performance management and forecasting best practices.
Qualifications
REQUIRED:
- 5+ years of experience in performance and capacity planning or related disciplines.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field strongly preferred.
- Proven expertise in:
- Performance and capacity planning strategies
- Forecasting production capacity needs
- Minimizing bottlenecks and ensuring timely delivery of services
- Performance management and optimization practices
- Strong analytical, modeling, and problem-solving skills.
- Must be eligible to obtain DHS Suitability clearance.
DESIRED/NICE TO HAVE:
- Workload characterization and application sizing experience
- Analytical and simulation modeling expertise
- Performance engineering and performance/capacity testing
- Experience with demand planning and process design
- Familiarity with enterprise performance management frameworks
