Our client, a global leader in the medical device industry, surgical solutions, is currently hiring a Test Engineer. Position is a new role due to growth, client's internal team is on a hiring freeze, until lifted, role will be a fully benefited Kelly Engineering Consultant.
Job Summary:
The Sr. Test Engineer will play a key role in ensuring the quality, safety, and performance of products by analyzing test protocols for new and existing products, collaborating cross-functionally, and driving continuous improvement in test methodologies within the highly regulated medical device environment.
Both domestic and international travel may be required, typical work-related travel assignments range 2-5 days, travel will be less than 15%.
Role is responsible for leading design verification and validation (V&V) activities in support of New Product Development (NPD) and Sustaining Engineering projects. This includes independently planning and executing test strategies, developing advanced test systems and methods, designing and fabricating complex fixtures, performing testing, and analyzing and reporting results to ensure product performance, reliability, and regulatory compliance.
Position requires technical authorship and ownership of V&V deliverables, mentorship of junior team members, and active leadership in process improvement and cross-functional collaboration. In addition, this role will act as a resource for less experienced colleagues and may lead small projects with manageable risk and scope.
Essential Functions (Accountabilities / Responsibilities):
Test Planning and Strategy, Test Method and Fixture Development, Test Execution and Reporting, and also problem Solving and Learning.
Applies engineering principles to complex technical challenges and drives root cause analysis and design iteration.
Partner with cross-functional design and project engineers to define product performance requirements and identify optimal test and analysis methodologies.
Independently develop and manage comprehensive V&V test plans aligned with product requirements and project timelines.
Prioritizes and manages own workload and leads technical planning and prioritization of V&V activities across multiple projects to meet project milestones and deliverables.
Develop advanced mechanical, electrical, electro-mechanical, and simulated-use test methods using a wide range of lab tools and equipment.
Independently design, develop, fabricate and validate complex test fixtures and setups.
Leads GR&R test method validations.
Authors and executes detailed test protocols for verification and validation activities.
Coordinates and leads testing performed by outside laboratories and vendors.
Performs in-depth data analysis and statistical analysis; prepares and submits comprehensive V&V reports with clear conclusions, technical justifications and rationales, and design recommendations.
Leads failures investigations and collaborates with project teams to identify design solutions.
Identifies and implements improvements in V&V processes, tools, and lab capabilities.
Provides mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers and technicians.
Collaborates effectively across engineering, quality, and regulatory functions to support project goals and ensure alignment.
Promotes a collaborative, safety-conscious, and quality-focused lab environment.
Participates in design reviews, risk assessments, and strategic project planning activities.
Required Skills/Experience:
Minimum of 5 years relevant experience, with a minimum of 2 years in a regulated industry (preferably medical devices).
Demonstrated ownership of test development, execution, analysis and reporting, with ability to lead technical activities independently.
Clear evidence of problem-solving and innovation in test engineering.
Experience leading small projects and mentoring junior team members.
Proficiency in mechanical testing, fixture design, and statistical analysis.
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field required.
Advanced degree or relevant certifications preferred.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Lead End of Line test plan definition for new products and new features, in collaboration with firmware, software, and hardware design teams
- Determine test strategies that optimize product safety, product reliability, risk mitigation, FMEA coverage, and schedule
- Design and execution of PCBA and electrical system components with hands on testing and rework as necessary
- Data analysis and clear communication of results and collaboration with design engineers to resolve any product problems found via test
- Design and implement next generation test automation hardware systems to facilitate fast and repeatable testing of product
- Executing on purchasing, build, integration and final commissioning of functional testers
- Develop test procedures and test automation from component level to system level
- Support board bring-up and bench validation as needed
- Support Design Engineer with DFT, provide feedback from test results to improve quality and test coverage
- Support manufacture test bring-up and yield
- Participate in design reviews
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
- 5+ years of hands on electrical engineering experience designing functional test equipment
- 2+ years of experience in Schematic Capture and/or PCBA layout. Experience with Altium Designer is a plus
- Experience in scripting language to develop automation. C/C++/C#, Python, MATLAB. Experience in LabVIEW is a plus
- Experience with peripherals and developing test and validation strategies

Responsibilities:
- Author, design, and execute automated tests by creating scripts that run testing functions automatically.
- Maximize test coverage for the most critical features of the system.
- Determine the priority for test scenarios and create execution plans to implement these scenarios.
- Author documentation for automated processes including test plans, test procedures, and test cases.
- Design and build test automation frameworks.
- Log and document bugs in the tracking system.
- Set up continuous integration test sandbox environment.
- Identify which type of testing/test cases are to automate and identify the test scenarios which are suitable for automation.
- Identify the automation tool that is best suited for automating the identified scenarios.
- Setup, deploy, and operate the automation tool for executing the test cases using the tool.
- Perform Verification and Validation (V&V) that the test automation tool works as desired.
- Design and develop scripts in the programming language that the tool supports.
- Develop programming scripts for manual test cases to convert them into automated test cases.
- Report the test case status by using the reporting feature of the tool.
- Perform test automation best practices when selecting test cases for automation.
- Provide input to the test report, ensuring that all stated requirements and test objectives have been evaluated and the documented results adequately and accurately reflect the collected data and analysis conducted during the event.
- Enhance and maintain scripts for reuse.
Qualifications:
Minimum Position Requirements:
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
- Experience using programming languages such as Java, PHP, or Python to develop code/scripts to execute test automation tasks.
- Experience understanding APIs and SDKs to utilize functions to develop test automation tools or test tools to test system requirements.
- Ability to apply test automation expertise through technology processes, methodologies, standards, or frameworks.
- Experience in applying COTS test automation tools and applying automation methodologies in an integrated test environment.
- Experience with the test and evaluation process from planning, execution, analysis, and reporting.
- Ability to understand when to apply test automation and when it is not beneficial.
- Ability to analyzing system requirements thoroughly to identify how to automate testing of the requirements.
- Experience using PowerShell.
- Ability to communicate technical content both orally and in writing.
- Develop test documentation that includes, but not limited to test plans, test reports, test procedures, problem reports, architecture diagrams, and topical briefings.
- Possess and maintain currency in respective field; understand emerging processes, methodologies, and technical advancements.
- Provide accurate and timely testing expertise in support of assigned tasking.
- Security Clearance: Active Secret clearance is required.
Desired Position Qualifications:
- PCAP, Certified Associate in Python Programming.
- Oracle Certified Associate, Java SE 8 Programmer Certification.
- CompTIA Security+.
- Hands-on experience using test automation tools such as Automated Test and Re-Test Test Manager (ATRT TM), Selenium, JMeter, Appium, SoapUI, Cucumber, Quick Test Professional (QTP), Load Runner, Ranorex, Rational Functional Tester (RFT), IBM Rational Robot, HP Unified Functional Testing (UFT), Test Complete, Katalon Studio, TestCraft, Perfecto, CloudQA, or Sikuli.
- Experience with System of Systems (SoS) testing.
