The Paramedic manages assessment, treatment and transport of patient in the ambulance, triage area, and/or the Emergency Department and hospital. Adheres to National Patient Safety Goals as appropriate based on the level of patient contact this position requires.

Responsibilities
The Paramedic responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Provides hospital and pre hospital care including treatment, packaging and transporting of patients according to current EMS protocols approved by Medical Director
- Consults with Medical Control as dictated by policy / procedure and /or protocols for guidance in providing patient care and scene control
- Operates the ambulance in a safe and efficient manner maximizing the safety and comfort of the occupants of the vehicle
- Attends continuing education classes and EMS refresher courses as required by the State of Oklahoma to assure license renewal

Qualifications

- Current Oklahoma Paramedic license and yearly thereafter
Emergency Medical Services Division: Current National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians Paramedic license and yearly thereafter. Current CPR Certification and yearly thereafter. Medical Director and states written approval of ability to perform on line and off line protocols for Emergency Medical Technicians. Advanced Cardiac Life Support within 6 months of hire and current certification yearly thereafter. Pre hospital Trauma Life Support preferred. Pediatric Advanced Life Support within 6 months of hire and current certification yearly thereafter. Emergency Vehicle Driver Training within 6 months of hire and current certification yearly thereafter.

- Notifies physician and/or other members of the health care team of corrected results in a timely manner with appropriate documentation in the computer system, and notifies charge nurse of Critical results in a timely manner with immediate reporting, documenting time, name of person and read back verification in the computer system
Required Education and Experience
Bachelor's Degree in related field or current credentials as MLS or CLS
Completion of approved training program for Medical Technologist preferred
Clinical laboratory setting experience within the last 10 years

- Audits medication records and makes necessary corrections
- Explains proper use of all prescriptions for outpatients.

- Ensures that non-sterile, sterile, and hazardous medications are prepared in accordance with USP 795, 797, and 800 regulation
- Supplies drug information to physicians, nurses and other members of the health care team
- Participates in the department's in-service education program.

GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Surgical Technologist is responsible for supporting the Mission and Vision of Henry Ford Rochester Hospital by functioning as part of the surgical team under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse and in collaboration with all members of the surgical services team. Adhere to accepted standards and follows department policies and procedures while preparing for and assisting with surgical procedures.
ESSENTIONAL FUNCTIONS:

Apply the principles of asepsis in a competent manner to provide optimum patient care. Maintain highest standard of sterile technique and corrects and reports any breaks in sterile technique.

Participate in general cleaning, stocking and sterilization of instruments and supplies in the OR according to policy and procedure; maintains a clean, organized, and safe OR environment.

Assist in setting up the OR with supplies and instruments. Arrange supplies and instruments for efficient use during the surgical procedure. Differentiate sterilization methods for special equipment and instruments necessary for specific surgical procedures as required.

Assist with moving and positioning of patients pre-, intra-, and post-operatively.

Scrub on all surgical procedures performed in assigned work area.

Anticipate and prepare for the needs of the surgeon when passing instruments, sponges, sutures, etc. Also, anticipate the needs of the surgical team and assists efficiently within the sterile field as directed by the surgeon.

Maintain an accurate count of sponges, sharps and instruments and is jointly responsible with the RN circulator for ensuring counts are complete and accurate prior to the procedure and before the incision is closed.

Act as a resource/preceptor for new personnel and students collaboratively and under the direction of a Registered Nurse.

Perform all duties in a manner consistent with safe patient care and according to policy and procedures. Respects confidentiality of patient records and information, patient’s right to privacy, dignity and safety.

Contribute to unit projects and assists in trial and evaluation of new surgical products and procedures.
