The role you'll contribute:
The Diagnostic Medical and Vascular Sonographer, under general supervision performs general Sonography and Vascular Sonography procedures in accordance with department protocols. Performs, at a technical level, a variety of ultrasound procedures on neonatal through geriatric patients. Assists physicians with interventional procedures. Selects practical applications and technical factors. Is knowledgeable in and carries out all applicable processes of the department. Assumes responsibility for designated areas or procedures. Participates in the AdventHealth performance improvement program. Adheres to the AdventHealth Corporate Compliance Plan and to all rules and regulations of all applicable local, state, and federal agencies and accrediting bodies. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.

Exam Supervision and Administration: Consistently obtains the highest quality scans possible in relation to patient body habitus and/or NPO prep status as observed by Radiologists, Ultrasound Educator, and Ultrasound Manager. Follows proper exam protocols as outlined in department Policy and Procedure manual. Utilizes two patient identifiers to confirm patient/exam accuracy before administering exam. Performs, properly documents, and reports all procedures in accordance with departmental policy. Adapts procedure to each patients medical situation obtaining all available necessary information for proper interpretation. Maintains patient confidentiality.

Diagnostic Image Quality and Documentation: Reviews all images on ultrasound machine or Web and thoroughly fills out Ultrasound worksheet in a timely manner. Re-scans patient as requested by Radiologist. Is open to critique of exams by Radiologist and/or department Manager/Educator. Exhibits desire to learn and upgrade clinical skills. Maintains familiarity with new procedures. Assists with clinical instructions and serves as a resource to less experienced employees.

Personal Productivity and Accountability: Completes exams in a timely manner. Properly and consistently evaluates patient prep status and schedules exam accordingly. Coordinates acceptable patient throughput in either an IP and/or OP setting keeping the department on schedule and maintaining desired productivity. Follows direction from Manager and Lead Sonographer. Keeps supervisor or manager informed and seeks assistance from appropriate individuals when confronted with complicated procedures to ensure safe and effective patient care. Communicates and collaborates with multidisciplinary team. Communicates abnormal findings to the reading physicians and notifies the physicians of procedures to be interpreted. Maintains a professional relationship with all customers. Communicates with patients and family members appropriate to age and understanding.

Data Processing: Utilizes computer system to update exam status, cancel/update orders as needed. Ensures charges match procedure completed. Confirms proper exam/patient assignment at QC before releasing images to PACS for interpretation. Corrects erroneous accession numbers in PACS when needed. Notifies Radiology Facilitator (RF) and transmits required worksheet and requisition for all after-hours cases. Effective knowledge of all Information Systems used in the Ultrasound department. Accurately documents, completes and charges procedures to ensure quality standards set by the department and hospital. Follows all AdventHealth policies and departmental procedures outlines.

What You’ll Do
Performs vascular ultrasound examinations and Doppler flow analyses of blood vessels, using ultrasound equipment, to assist providers in diagnosing vascular conditions such as deep vein thrombosis, peripheral artery disease, and carotid artery disease. Conducts non-invasive diagnostic imaging to evaluate and record critical functional, pathological, and anatomical data related to the circulatory system. Credentialed in ultrasound RDMS and current certification as a Registered Vascular Technologist.
- Schedules and coordinates vascular studies, ensuring timely and efficient patient care.
- Accurately records test results and maintains detailed patient records in compliance with regulatory and hospital policies.
- Calibrates, troubleshoots, and maintains ultrasound equipment, ordering necessary supplies as needed.
- Ensures adherence to patient safety protocols, including proper positioning and use of ultrasound techniques to minimize patient discomfort.
- Serves as the primary interface with patients, explaining procedures, addressing concerns, and ensuring a positive imaging experience.
- Actively participates in quality improvement initiatives, patient satisfaction efforts, and continuing education related to vascular imaging.
- Assists Provider during venous procedures as needed.
- Provides venous mapping to expedite procedures and increase patient safety.
- Engages in multidisciplinary collaboration, attending committee meetings and assisting with vascular-related physician and patient education.
Who We’re Looking For
- Credentialed in ultrasound RDMS and current certification as a Registered Vascular Technologist.
- Must have an American Heart Association BLS card within 3 months of hire and must be maintained throughout GRHD employment

Essential Responsibilities:
- Performs clinical assessment and diagnostic vascular laboratory examinations.
- Uses cognitive sonographic skills to identify and record appropriate anatomical, pathological, and diagnostic images.
- Coordinates work schedule with Supervisor/Director and/or scheduling desk to assure workload coverage.
- Responsible for the safety, mental and physical comfort of patients while in the technologist/sonographers care.
- Prepares patients for examinations and explains procedures to patients. Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
- Vocational or Technical training required in Vascular Technology or Diagnostic Ultrasound. Bachelor's degree preferred in Vascular Technology or Diagnostic Ultrasound
- ARDMS- American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) required,. and certification required: Basic Life Support certification, Registered vascular Tech- RVT or Registered Vascular Specialist- RVS
- 1-2 years related work experience required.
- Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.

Diagnostic Medical Sonographer/Ultrasound
General Summary/Basic Purpose of Job:
Diagnostic Medical Sonographers produce sonographic Images of High-Risk OB/Gyne , General and vascular structures and internal organs and cavities for use in diagnosing disease. During this process they must be able to operate the Diagnostic Ultrasound equipment to obtain the most diagnostic images possible using the appropriate transducers and operational controls.
Essential Functions and Duties:
- Has a thorough understanding of ultrasound equipment and physics in order to produce high quality images for review by the imaging physician or radiologist.
- Ability to discern the difference between real anatomic reflections from tissue versus artifact and adjust controls to reduce the effect of the artifacts.
- Ability to integrate diagnostic Sonograms, laboratory results, patient history and medical records, and adapt the Sonographic exam as necessary.
- Perform Ultrasonic diagnostic procedures in accordance with accepted ACR/SDMS/AIUM and department examination protocols as directed by the reading physicians.
- Maintain ultrasound equipment in a clean and sanitized condition at all times and report any damage or malfunction immediately to your supervisor or biomedical engineering. Clean every transducer and transducer cable after each use.
- Uses AIDET principles with all patients by: Acknowledging them, Introducing yourself, letting them know how long the exam will take, explaining the procedure and thanking them for visiting our facility.
- Sonographer shall verify the identity of all patients by checking their registration ID band, and by asking the patient the following: ask for their full name, and date of birth and verify that the answers match the arm band and the referral paperwork.
- Understands the use of all Doppler controls and principles in order to produce the proper images for evaluation and diagnosis by the reading physician.
- Must understand the difference between normal appearing anatomy, abnormally appearing anatomy and alterations caused by pathology, and fluid collections, and create an imaging file that best represents this.
- Demonstrates the ability to assist in performing biopsies, fluid aspiration, tissue aspiration and other invasive procedures while documenting these procedures using ultrasound imaging.
- If assigned and is fully trained in breast, pediatric, vascular, OB& GYN or general ultrasound imaging, be able to produce accurate imaging of all anatomy or pathology using the appropriate scanning techniques and protocols.
- Consistently places studies into Taken status in Meditech, verified status into PACS, and properly attaches all relevant ultrasound orders in AS software.
- Assigns ultrasound studies properly to the designated reading physician based on the exam type; i.e. MFM OB read versus radiologist read. And ensures that OB studies are not in preliminary status in PACS.
- Equally shares the responsibility of performing exams on inpatients, ED patients, portable exams, and Schwab patients; and is an effective communicator with other ultrasound caregivers and office staff.
- Performs quality assurance tests frequently on the ultrasound machines and reports any defects or damages to the biomedical engineering department via the SinaiNet Renovo portal or by calling the biomedical engineering department directly.
- Ensures proper protocol and documentation of the high level disinfection process for the ultrasound probes (i.e. Trophon, Cidex, ect.) and reviews the log book for inconsistencies.
- Ability to rotate across the system including: MSH, HCH, La Villita, Hawthorne and Lawndale. This includes shift flexibility as well as willing to cover PTO, call-in's and emergencies.
- Required Licenses, Certificates, Registrations:
- Must be American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) certified within two years of hire. o RDMS (AB, OB/GYN) or Breast required for caregivers in General and OB/Gyne areas. o RVT required for caregivers in Vascular.
