The Division of Neonatology at Connecticut Children's is looking for a full-time, clinical neonatologist to provide service in our New York sites at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Northern Dutchess Hospital, and Putnam Hospital in the Hudson Valley area. Vassar Brothers, located in Poughkeepsie, houses a 23-bed Level III NICU covering a delivery service of 2500. The NICU is supported virtually by subspecialists with 24/7 access to echocardiography, EGG, and MIR interpretation. The unit also provides the only neonatal transport service in the mid-Hudson Valley region. Neonatologists are teamed with neonatal physician assistants and nurse practitioners to provide coverage of the NICU following an in-house coverage model. Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck, and Putnam Hospital in Putnam, are Level I nurseries with 24/7 staffing by advanced practitioners and an out-of-house coverage model for physicians.

Responsibilities

SUMMARY

The Neonatologist will provide a high level of clinical excellence through providing safe, prompt, competent, collaborative, and evidence-based medical care to patients. The Neonatologist will be responsible to follow care guidelines and treatment protocols for infants with a variety of neonatal illnesses and conditions covering a broad spectrum of health issues. The Neonatologist will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team including attending, advanced practitioner staff, nursing and subspecialists to provide this care. Additionally, the Neonatologist will be responsible to teach to a variety of learners which may include medical students and residents.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

-Provide assessment of patients by obtaining a comprehensive history.
- Examines patients to obtain objective physical data and supporting information through laboratory and imaging modalities.
- Formulate a differential diagnosis and develops a reasonable treatment plan to include pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions and making appropriate referrals as indicated.
- Maintain ongoing documentation of patient interventions within the timeframe established by policy, to include documentation of initial assessment, treatment plans, progress notes and any other patient interactions, to include telephone calls.
- Collaborate with nursing, support personnel and administration in matters affecting patient care.
- Ensure the protection of patient rights and adherence to HIPAA regulations.
- Ensures appropriate handoff communications are accomplished.
- Responsible for teaching medical students and pediatric residents.

This PA service is a hospital-based group that offers a supportive and team-based environment with a supportive environment for collaboration and learning. Responsibilities will include OR coverage for cystoscopy with preoperative ureteral stent placement, DaVinci Robotic Thoracic, Urology and Gyn-Oncology cases, as well as management of admissions, consults, and post-op management of inpatients. This position is a great opportunity for growth and exposure to high acuity patients, and complex procedures. 





 1. OR First Assisting- Case coverage will include Urology based procedures such as cystoscopy with preoperative ureteral stent placement, DaVinci Robotic Surgery for Thoracic, Urology and Gyn-oncology.



2. Rounding- PA's will work in a team-based environment alongside other PA's and NP's to round on any in-house subspecialty patients.



1. Admissions/ Consults- PA will perform admissions and consults for patients in the emergency department and on the inpatient floors.


2. Floor Procedures- PA will assist in floor procedures including difficult foley insertions and chest tube insertion and removal.


3. This service is expanding with opportunity for growth.




This position is scheduled for three 12-hour shifts per week with a weekend shift and at home on-call obligations. Weekend coverage will be included in the weekly schedule and hours. 





Qualifications



· The qualified candidate will be a graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program and be NCCPA certified as well as possess strong surgical and patient management experience.




· Candidates with at least one to three years of surgical experience and/or surgical residency trained candidates preferred, but new graduates will be strongly considered.

The Surgical PA Service at Vassar Brothers Medical Center is seeking to add a board-certified full-time Physician Assistant to join its team.  We are a hospital-based group that offers a supportive and team-based environment with exposure to multiple surgical subspecialties.  Responsibilities include OR coverage as well as management of admissions, consults, floor rounds, post-op management and discharge of patients.  This position is a great opportunity for growth and exposure to high acuity patients, complex procedures and a high volume of DaVinci Robotic Surgery cases.


 Vassar Brothers Medical Center Service Responsibilities:  

  1. OR First Assisting- case coverage includes but is not limited to the specialties of General Surgery, Colorectal, Hepatobiliary, GYN/ GynOnc, Labor and Delivery, Plastic Surgery, Urology, Head and Neck, Bariatric Surgery, Endocrine Surgery, DaVinci Robotic Surgery 
  1. Rounding- Surgical PA’s round on general surgery and surgical oncology patients daily. This is done as a team-based approach with attendings, surgical residents, medical students and PA students
  2. Admissions/ Consults- Surgical PA Services are responsible for admissions and consults for patients in the emergency department and inpatient floors
  3. Floor Procedures- Surgical PA’s are responsible for floor procedures including NG tube and difficult foley insertion, wound vac changes, bedside I&D

This position is for three 12-hour shifts per week with one weekend shift per month.  There is an extensive onboarding and training period as well as a supportive environment for collaboration and learning.


Qualifications  

  • The qualified candidate will be a graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program and be NCCPA certified as well as possess strong surgical and patient management experience.
  • Candidates with at least one to three years of surgical experience and/or surgical residency trained candidates preferred, but new graduates will be considered as will new nurse practitioners with RNF certification and surgical experience.
