Position Summary:
The CVT is responsible for supporting doctors, patients, and clients through technical skill, medical knowledge, and excellent communication. This role includes direct patient care, anesthesia monitoring, laboratory and diagnostic testing, client education, and supporting the smooth flow of the hospital.
This is a general overview of the role; responsibilities may shift based on the needs of the hospital.
Key Responsibilities:
Patient Care & Technical Skills
- Assist doctors with patient exams, treatments, and procedures
- Administer medications, injections, vaccines, and treatments as directed
- Place IV catheters and perform venipuncture
- Monitor and maintain accurate patient medical records
- Perform dental cleanings, radiographs, and oral health assessments
- Provide safe and effective anesthesia induction, monitoring, and recovery support
- Collect and process lab samples (blood, urine, fecal, cytology, etc.)
- Run and interpret in-house diagnostics (CBC, chemistry, urinalysis, etc.)
- Prepare and submit samples to reference laboratories
- Maintain lab equipment and ensure quality control
- Educate clients on preventive care, medications, and treatment plans
- Provide compassionate communication during challenging cases
- Support doctors in relaying medical updates to clients
- Ensure all interactions reflect professionalism, empathy, and excellent customer service
- Maintain cleanliness, organization, and safety of hospital areas
- Assist with inventory and restocking of medical supplies
- Participate in continuing education and skill development
- Support a culture of teamwork, accountability, and servant leadership
- Current certification/licensure as a Veterinary Technician (CVT, LVT, or RVT)
- 1+ year of experience in a clinical veterinary setting preferred
- Proficiency in anesthesia, dentistry, and patient nursing care
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to multitask and remain calm under pressure
- Passion for veterinary medicine and client service

JOB SUMMARY
Works under moderate supervision to provide organizational and technical skills required to establish and maintain accurate and up-to-date records retention and removal practices, in accordance with governmental and UT System regulations.
Looking for a dynamic individual for the newly opened Veterinary Research and Oncology Clinic in the Department of Radiation Oncology. The position will include working with canine and feline patients including anesthesia monitoring, prep work in clinic and tissue procurement work. It will also involve actively build and maintain relationships with referring clinic and contact to grow referral base.

JOB DUTIES
- Provides organizational and technical skills required to establish and maintain accurate and up-to-date record retention and removal practices in accordance with governmental and UT System regulations.
- Interprets and assimilates federal, state, and UT System laws, rules and policies. Develops university policies and procedures pertaining to records retention.
- Reviews and records university records retention schedule and submits changes to UT System and Texas State Library. Keeps schedule current and departments informed of records retention requirements.
- Develops and publishes material to educate university departments on records retention functions.
- Develops and trains university staff on records retention functions including electronic and physical files.
- Assists with web-page management and maintenance.
- Assists with departmental functions as directed by management.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

- Assist with radiographs (dental radiograph experience a plus).
- Medication preparation and administration.
- Obtaining patient history and preparing appointments for the doctors.
- Answer phone, make appointments, schedule procedures, etc.
- Clinic maintenance (general cleaning, stocking supplies, cleaning/wrapping surgical instruments)
- Able to lift at least 50 pounds
- 1+ years of veterinary technician experience is required
- Knowledge of industry tools and equipment
- Experience with proper animal handling and restraint
- Understand the importance of client education
- Positive team-player
- Willing to continue their education
- Must be able to work some weekends and evenings/ rotating schedule
