At Wisconsin Veterinary Referral Center (WVRC) in Waukesha Wisconsin , we encourage employee growth and take pride in our exceptional patient care. Our emergency hospital is under one roof with ten different specialties including: anesthesia, cardiology, critical care, internal medicine, neurology, oncology, ophthalmology, radiology, rehabilitation, and surgery. We are fortunate to have over FIFTEEN board certified veterinarians and a technical team of over FORTY certified technicians including three veterinary technician specialists (VTSs) in emergency/critical care (ECC) and anesthesia. Our technicians are entrusted to do all patient treatments, blood draws, tube placements, CRI calculations and SO much more on a wide variety of patients from a stable vomiting dog to a ventilation case. Our hospital was proudly the 2025 Ethos Veterinary Health President’s Award winner, which recognizes well-run hospitals within the Ethos network that have shown sustained revenue and profit growth stem from great medicine, outstanding client service , and best-in-class resource utilization . Hospitals excelling in these areas share common traits, including strong leadership and exceptional teams .
Candidate Requirements:
- Candidates for CVT positions must hold a certified veterinary technician (CVT) license in the state of Wisconsin OR are planning on obtaining their CVT license within nine months of hire.
- These are full-time positions, working in a busy 24/7/365 hospital, therefore the candidate must be available 36-40 hours per week, every other weekend for our 24-hour departments, and four out of the eight company-recognized holidays a year. Shift details, (such as length of shifts, start and end times, and number of days a week) will be discussed at the time of a scheduled interview and will be based on the current needs of the department.
- Technical skill sets such as restraint, phlebotomy, catheter placement, general nursing care, and drug calculation experience are required. General anesthesia and anesthesia monitoring knowledge, and the ability to calculate CRI’s is preferred.
- Fluent English skills (speaking and reading) are required for the role. Fluency in a language (or languages) other than English is a plus!
Candidate Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Minimum of one year of veterinary technician experience (emergency experience preferred but not required)

Job Description
This is an excellent opportunity for Veterinary Technicians who are excited to fully utilize their skills in both surgery and outpatient care-working with a variety of species, including exotics and some wildlife-while making meaningful connections with clients and their pets.
In this role, you will:
- Assist with patient preparation and recovery during surgical and dental procedures.
- Support care for a wide range of species, including dogs, cats, birds, small mammals (ferrets and rodents), reptiles, and some wildlife such as birds of prey (owls, hawks, etc.).
- Maintain detailed medical records to support accurate patient care.
- Support exam room workflow by assisting with outpatient care, patient handling, and preparing for appointments.
- Communicate with clients to check in for appointments, review treatment plans, provide discharge instructions, and address questions with empathy and clarity.
- Anticipate the needs of your team to maintain an efficient schedule while upholding the highest standards of patient care.
This position is ideal for Veterinary Assistants who enjoy engaging with clients, supporting outstanding patient care, and are excited by the opportunity to work with both traditional pets and a variety of exotic and wildlife species in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
This is a full-time position with a 4/10 schedule and availability needed Monday through Friday. In addition, this role includes on-call weekends every 6 weeks for emergency cases, compensated at a rate of $40.00/hour for hours worked.
Full-time benefits and compensation :
- Compensation: $6.50-23.00 per hour, for each hour worked
- 40 per hour for weekend emergencies
- Bonus package: 500- 2,000 based on experience and licensure
- CE allowance: Up to 1,000 annually based on licensure
- CE and attendance at WVC Las Vegas paid for CVTs

Minimum qualifications and skill set:
- 3+ years of veterinary experience in a clinical setting
- Proficiency in the following skills:
- Surgical setup and assisting
- Phlebotomy
- SQ injections
- Radiology
- Exotic Animal Handling
