**Summary**
The College of Letters, Arts, and Science (LAS) at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS) will establish and maintain a pool of Lecturers in Visual Arts from which future appointments to temporary, non-tenure track positions will be made. Appointments are part-time (less than 50% time) and will be made semester-by-semester.
The position is responsible for teaching various courses for Visual Arts; however, exact courses taught will depend on need at the time of hire The courses may be in person or online.

The Director of Visual Art is a year-round leadership position overseeing visual arts education at Interlochen Arts Academy and Interlochen Arts Camp. Reporting to the Provost, the Director provides visionary leadership for curriculum and programming, teaches classes during the academic year and summer, manages faculty and staff, and cultivates strong relationships with students, alumni, and donors. Essential Duties:

  • Provide visionary leadership for visual art education at Interlochen Arts Academy and Interlochen Arts Camp, aligning with institutional goals
  • Teach one to two classes each semester and appropriate classes during camp
  • Recruit, hire, orient, and evaluate visual art faculty and staff, including the Richardson-Spica Fellow Artist-in-Residence program

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

* Provides direct patient care and management of children and adolescents by developing and implementing treatment and intervention plans and conducting needs assessment to gather patient information.

* Completes diagnostic behavioral health assessments for treatment or crisis intervention. Compiles and analyzes data and prepares case records, reports, and documents that comply with state and federal standards in providing case notes, treatment plans, and evaluations.
* Collaborates with other disciplines or departments on patient care and unit safety and serves as a liaison with multi-disciplinary care teams and external community agencies to identify, implement, and monitor treatment goals. Presents case presentations and provides consultation to medical teams and callers.
* Coordinates admissions to programs within the Pediatric Mental Health Institute or community programs and coordinates treatment with internal and external services.
* Leads, monitors, evaluates, and collaborates educational and therapeutic groups for patients; participates in clinical rounds and maintains communication with unit or department leadership.
* Attends educational in-services for Behavioral Health Clinicians
* Participates in unit committees and educational offerings; complies with all policies and procedures related to the Pediatric Mental Health Institute and the hospital; and provides customer service as related to the Mental Health field.

    • State of Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) Licensed Professional Counselor or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or Licensed Marriage and Family Counselor; Credentialing must be completed by the Medical Staff Office (MSO) within 3 months of employment
    • ATR or ATR-BC (Art Therapist Registered or Board Certified) by the Art Therapy Credentials Board (AATA) or RDT (Registered Drama Therapist) by the North American Drama Therapy Association and or REAT (Registered Expressive Arts Therapist) by the International Expressive Arts Therapy Association preferred

Job Overview:

The Creative Arts Therapist (Clinician) provides clinical groups and creative arts therapies to children & adolescent inpatients throughout their treatment, and develops treatment interventions both group and individual-oriented, utilizing an integrated theoretical framework to best serve the psychiatric units.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Creative Arts Modality

Preferred:

  • At least 6 months mental health experience

Certifications and Licenses Required:

  • Board certification in Art, Dance, Music, Drama, Dance, or Recreation Therapy
  • License if applicable to discipline

Scheduling Requirements:

  • Shift working, 8-4pm and 10-6pm

  • Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays preferred

  • Per Diem (PD)

Essential Functions:

  • Provide clinical groups to children & adolescent patients throughout their treatment
  • Participate in the management of crises as directed
  • Participate in treatment planning meetings, program participant/staff meetings, and group and community meetings as required
  • Contribute to the formation, carrying out, and updating of treatment plans elaborated by the staff
  • Report behavioral and/or physical changes in condition to the program director and according to policy and procedure
  • Maintain open channels of communication with associates, participants, and families; works with in a multifamily group as appropriate
  • Assess social, perceptual, and physical skills, and re-creative resources according to discipline-specific standards
  • Develop treatment interventions both group and individual-oriented, utilizing an integrated theoretical framework to:
  • Elicit expression, communication, and response from verbally defended clients
  • Increase self-understanding and insight development through exploration of symbolic content in creative arts modality
  • Diagnostically elicit information not readily available through verbal assessment procedures
  • Develop self-esteem, problem-solving skills, organization, and risk-taking through creativity
  • Integrate and sequence the creative process
  • Resolve conflict through the use of creative art modalities
  • Teach relaxation techniques, when indicated
  • Utilize knowledge of resources to assist in leisure time planning
