About the position: our Drivers are the heart of our operation and "the face of the food bank" to many in our community. Drivers pick up and deliver food all throughout Santa Cruz County, ensuring timely and accurate deliveries. This position supports the organization's program services, including setting up products at distribution sites, and performing warehouse operations duties such as order picking, pulling, and loading. This role regularly interacts with volunteers, partner agencies, donors, and the general public.

JOB SUMMARY:
Driving (60% of the time)
- Perform timely, safe, and efficient pick-up and delivery of Second Harvest products throughout Santa Cruz County.
- Load the truck with outbound food products according to delivery specifications and within Second Harvest policies.
- Complete the outbound inspection form for all deliveries.
- Calculate and arrange loads with consideration of safety and security in transport.
- Ensure products are transported and delivered in compliance with food safety standards.
- Unload and load food at the respective site, working closely with Second Harvest staff, Partner Agencies, and volunteers to set up the distribution (unloading products, breaking down cases) and clean up (reloading products, breaking down recycling and trash) at each site.
- Use GPS navigation, route optimization, and mobile delivery apps to plan efficient delivery routes and track progress in real time.
- Scan incoming and outgoing products using handheld barcode scanners or mobile devices to ensure accurate inventory tracking.
- Complete inspection log when picking up donations to ensure that product meets food bank standards.
- Assist in the delivery and pick up of barrel exchanges process for Holiday Food and Fund Drive.
- Maintain receipts, invoices, and other required paperwork for each site.
- Complete and submit pre-trip/post-trip Daily Driver's Log daily as required by the Department of Transportation.
- Inspect vehicles to ensure that they are in safe operating condition by completing the vehicle inspection form ; report the need for maintenance or repair.
- Maintain an organized, clean, and sanitized cab, cargo area, and food-handling equipment.
- Obeys all traffic laws, maintains a safe driving record, and ensures all class C license requirements are met in compliance with the organization's insurance requirements.
- Pull fresh, frozen, dry food orders in an accurate and timely manner, with attention to food safety and quality.
- Load and offload company vehicles as required, exercising safe lifting practices.
- Move a variety of foodstuff and related material in and about the warehouse for the purpose of inspection/sorting.
- Verify that sales order paperwork matches items on the order that are slated for shipping.
- Safely drive a forklift in a warehouse setting.
- Update warehouse management or inventory systems to record food donations, agency distributions, and vehicle load details in real time.
- Assist in verifying food safety standards are met for products and packaging materials through visual inspection, product handling and temperature monitoring when applicable.
- Complete and perform accurate follow-through on documentation for shipping, receiving, unloading, and warehousing of product, as defined by Feeding America, AIB policies, and Second Harvest procedures.
- Work with warehouse team to maintain inventory control standards.
- Maintain safe food handling and safe warehouse practices.
- Participate in and contribute to accurate inventory and cycle counts.
- Use the scale to weigh community barrels and properly tag barrels or bins after being weighed.
- Assists with ongoing AIB audit duties.
- Serve as an ambassador for the food bank and its mission in the community.
- Communicate program-site related issues with Logistics Manager and Program staff.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships and deal tactfully, cooperatively and effectively with staff members, volunteers, agencies, community organizations, growers, packers, processors, and potential donors.
- Communicate effectively and respectfully with people of different racial, ethnic and cultural groups and from different backgrounds and lifestyles.
- Work with other team members in a cooperative and supportive way; providing assistance and fill-in coverage for other positions.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience: 2+ years driving and/or warehousing experience. Experience in safe food handling, storage, and transportation preferred.
Knowledge/Skills/Ability:
- Knowledge of California driving rules and regulations; safe truck operations; loading and transport techniques and practices.
- Knowledge of safe food handling requirements for transport and storage.
- Forklift certification preferred. At a minimum, must enroll in training program immediately upon hire.
- Experience using warehouse management systems (WMS) or inventory tracking software to log, scan, and manage product movement.
- Proficiency with handheld barcode scanners, tablets, or mobile data collection devices.
- Experience working with label printing or inventory tagging systems.
- Ability to navigate using GPS systems, route optimization apps, and electronic dispatch tools.
- Experience using Microsoft Office Suite and other common computer applications for data entry and reporting.
- Ability to read maps and assist in planning effective driving routes.
- Knowledge of basic vehicle recordkeeping.
- Some knowledge of inventory control practices, procedures and recordkeeping methods.
- Ability to work as a part of a team, to foster teamwork and to provide excellent service to coworkers and customers.
- Ability to learn new technologies and adapt to updated warehouse or delivery systems.
- Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with people of various ages, educational, ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds.
- Must have a minimal ability to use computers.
- Bilingual in English/Spanish is desirable.
- Must have access to a motor vehicle, as well as valid auto insurance coverage.
- Must have a valid California Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record, as documented by a current MVR (will be obtained by the Food Bank's insurance carrier).

Schedules available: Days off vary
1st Shift: 5AM to 1:30PM

Our Warehouse Cleaning/Janitorial positions perform the following duties within designated work areas, as assigned at the beginning of each shift:
