Project OverviewThe Website Development, SEO & Blog Intern will be responsible for helping the marketing department achieve and maintain an 85%+ site health score throughout the internship by addressing website errors, warnings, and notices. This role focuses on improving Calyx’s digital presence through technical SEO, content creation, backlink building, and site performance optimization in alignment with our company SEO strategy. The intern will also support blog publishing and writing, enhance keyword performance, track web-related KPIs, assist in setting up and tracking Google Paid Ads, and support marketing campaigns. This is a hands-on role ideal for a student or early-career professional passionate about digital marketing, SEO, and web content in the cannabis packaging industry.
Learning Objectives- Website Management in Shopify: Directly make edits, upload content, and optimize web pages for performance and SEO.
- Site Health Monitoring: Review weekly SEMrush site health reports, resolve technical issues, and ensure the site maintains 85%+ health.
- SEO Optimization: Implement on-page and technical SEO improvements, including meta tags, headings, keyword placement, and schema markup.
- Image Optimization: Manage and optimize website imagery, including alt text management and removal of unused images to reduce clutter.
- Backlink Building: Assist in building and managing backlink strategy to improve domain authority and authority score.
- Keyword Position Tracking: Monitor keyword rankings and work toward achieving at least three cannabis packaging-related keywords in the top 10 search positions.
- Content Publishing: Post at least 7 blogs per week, starting with provided content and progressing to self-written contributions; manage blog formatting, internal linking, and SEO compliance.
- Paid Advertising Support: Assist in setting up and tracking Google Paid Ads campaigns, monitor performance, and contribute optimization recommendations.
- Analytics & KPI Tracking: Maintain weekly reporting on key website and SEO metrics in the marketing KPI tracker.
- Collaboration with Design Department: Coordinate with the design team for web and blog imagery needs.
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Marketing, Communications, Web Development, or a related field.
- Familiarity with Shopify, GA4, Google Search Console, and SEMrush preferred.
- Strong writing skills with an eye for detail.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Bonus: Familiarity with other design or prototyping software, graphic design experience, and interest in the cannabis industry or packaging is a plus.

Brightpoint Community College is a two-year public institution of higher education and is the third largest of Virginia's 23 community colleges. The college is located within the Greater Richmond metropolitan area. It serves students and the community at its two campuses, in Chester and Midlothian; online; and in locations throughout its service area. The Division of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences at Brightpoint Community College augments full-time teaching faculty with qualified part-time instructors to enhance the student learning process. Adjunct Faculty teaching is limited to a maximum of 8 credit hours in the summer semester, 12 credit hours in the fall semester, and 12 credit hours in the spring semester. These limits are for total number of credits hours taught in the Virginia's Community Colleges (VCCS). Additional restrictions may apply depending upon other positions occupied within VCCS.
Brightpoint Community College invites applicants to apply for the Web Design Adjunct position to provide online or traditional (on-campus) delivery instruction on either the Chester or Midlothian campus of the college. Courses offered in the discipline include Design for the Web I & II and Interactive Design I & II.
Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum of a bachelor's degree in the discipline or related field plus two years of work experience in web design.
Additional Considerations:
Prior teaching experience at the postsecondary level. Ability to use instructional technologies. Excellent interpersonal and communications skills.
