We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) to join our team in Savannah, GA. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring welding activities meet industry standards, project specifications, and safety regulations. This role plays a critical part in maintaining integrity and quality across projects.
Responsibilities
+ Perform visual inspections of welds and ensure compliance with all applicable codes.
+ Monitor welding operations to ensure proper techniques and materials are used.
+ Maintain detailed inspection records and generate reports for internal and client use.
+ Collaborate with engineering, production, and quality teams to resolve welding issues.
+ Ensure compliance with safety standards and company policies.
+ Train and mentor junior welders and inspectors as needed.
+ Perform testing, observation, and inspection as directed in accordance with training and specified procedures.
+ Read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
+ Provide clear documentation of findings and results.
+ Perform basic analysis of data to verify accuracy before communication and submittal to the Project Manager.
+ Communicate information to Project Manager and other personnel as directed by the Project Manager.
+ Draft inspection reports for review by senior inspector and/or Project Managers.
+ Assist more senior inspectors on projects.
+ Follow safety rules and practices and other safety requirements for all projects.
+ Perform pre-task planning prior to executing work and report any safety issues or concerns to management.
+ Be responsible for maintaining quality standards on all projects.
Essential Skills
+ Current Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification.
+ Minimum of 3 years of welding inspection experience.
+ Familiarity with welding codes and standards (AWS D1.1, ASME Section IX, API 1104, etc.).
+ Strong understanding of metallurgy, welding processes, and fabrication techniques.
+ Excellent attention to detail and documentation skills.
+ Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
+ NDT certifications.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Valid driver's license with acceptable violation history.
+ Experience in construction materials testing, geotechnical, concrete testing, nondestructive testing, and radiation safety.

Work Environment
The position involves working both in field and shop environments, with travel to job sites or client facilities. Founded in 1968, our areas of expertise include metal stamping, laser cutting, fabrication, manual and robotic welding, tool and die work, powder coating and assembly. Our modern facilities include 190,000 square feet of manufacturing space between three facilities located in Fairfield, OH. We specialize in numerous industries including construction, transportation, energy, and defense. We have an opening for a Quality Weld Inspector.
This role entails conducting weld inspections to ensure adherence to acceptance criteria as per customer and company specifications. In addition, this position will ensure weldments and welding-related activities comply with all applicable quality and safety standards supporting G&W’s business processes to meet company strategic goals.
These duties are to include inspecting parts and assemblies using appropriate measuring and test equipment to verify compliance with drawings and instructions. Inspections include first piece and full container inspections IAW the applicable weld code and defined criteria. This includes documenting results in G&W’s ERP system, and communicating inspection results in a complete, clear and concise manner.
Other Duties Include:
- Actively participate in G&W’s corrective action process
- Assist Manufacturing associates interpreting drawings, instructions and WPS’s to provide an understanding of the requirements of each specific job
- Support G&W's safety requirements, 5S initiatives, and consistently maintain good housekeeping duties.
- Participate in the Material Review Board to determine disposition when required for welding issues.
- Update quality documentation in Plex (ERP) as non-conformances and issues arise
Must Have:
- At least one year of experience in weld inspection is required.
- Proficient at reading weld symbols and blue-print drawings
- Capable of using measuring equipment (i.e. fillet gages, calipers, height gages, etc.)
- Understand both Metric and English units
- Good problem-solving skills
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook

What You Will Do
Some core responsibilities for a QC Welding Inspector include :
- Perform quality control functions with high regard to integrity on KSPS projects, including the development and execution of field inspection plans
- Develop skills, gain experience to be a site QC lead, which may include being a QC lead on a project
- Support development, maintain and keep digital record of quality packages for submittal to the client and KSPS corporate quality personnel
- Keep corporate and site quality personnel up to date on any quality issues, small or large
- Maintain a daily log / rollover log to keep quality informed of activities taking place on site
- Work with quality personnel on site, as needed, in an effective matter with respect and humility
- Material receiving and inspection and approval

Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to work long hours and all shift schedules that may require up to twelve hours a day, seven days a week for extended durations
- Must be able to work in confined spaces and be capable of climbing ladders, scaffolds and working at heights
- Must be able to perform work wearing personal protective equipment including but not limited to rain gear, chemical protective clothing, supplied air and air purifying respirators, safety harness, FRC coveralls, hard hat, ear plugs and safety glasses, etc.
- Respiratory Protection Fit Testing and Pulmonary Function Testing is required. Additional medical examinations, such as Fitness for Duty exams may be required per client guidelines. Hearing and vision within normal ranges also may be required per client requirements.

This role is part of the collective bargaining agreement and the starting pay for this role is set at $53.81 per hour.

About The Role:
The Certified Welding Inspector role involves ensuring the structural integrity of steel by performing and leading non-destructive testing (NDT/NDE) operations in the field and lab. You'll manage assignments, inspect steel structures, and guide technicians in delivering top-tier inspection services with precision and safety.
Conduct Inspections: Perform advanced NDT/NDE techniques, including ultrasonic testing (UT) and magnetic particle testing (MT).
Lead Projects: Oversee and guide testing assignments across multiple projects to ensure quality and consistency.
Maintain Equipment: Calibrate testing equipment and participate in quality system audits.
Document Findings: Generate clear and comprehensive reports to communicate results effectively.
Perform Fieldwork: Climb steel structures up to 200+ feet with fall protection and safety gear.

About You:
You have a High School Diploma or GED.
You have 3+ years of NDT/NDE metals testing experience OR an associate degree in a related field.
You have a current AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification.
You have a Level II UT certification.
You have an ASNT Level II certification per ASNT-SNT-TC-1A in at least one method.
You have additional certifications (preferred but not required):
ICC Building/Structural Steel Inspection
Level II PT or MT certifications
Experience with Safety, DDC, NDT, or Radiation Training
