Job Description
**Welding Engineer - BWX Technologies, Inc. - Barberton, Ohio**
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
+ Preparation, review, approval and release of written welding procedures in accordance with specifications and weld procedure qualifications
+ Preparation and review of welding/fabrication plans (i.e., bead placement sketches, setup sheets, welding instructions)
+ Qualification, documentation, and maintenance of welding procedures and welders/weld operators.
+ Supervision of welders and welding operators on critical weld operations.
+ Trouble shooting of welding operations (i.e., weldability issues, welding equipment failures)
+ Identification, design, procurement, and implementation of welding equipment and/or fixture needs.
Job requirements:
+ Applicants must have theoretical understanding of the gas tungsten arc, gas metal arc, shielded metal arc, submerged arc, and plasma arc welding processes.
+ Actual welding proficiency is not required, but hands-on-experience is desirable.
+ The Welding Engineer should have a working knowledge of commercial and/or military welding qualification and fabrication specifications through practical experience and/or school classes.
+ Applicants must have a theoretical understanding of the welding of ferrous and non-ferrous base metals. This understanding includes but is not limited to the bulk base metal microstructure, bulk phase transformations of the base metals and weld metal that can occur during a welding process, and the proper selection of filler metals.
+ A Bachelors degree in Welding Engineer is required.

Summary/ObjectiveThe welder, reporting to the plant manager, will cut and join metals and other materials to complete the finished product. They will operate appropriate equipment to put together mechanical structures or parts with a great deal of precision. They must use potentially dangerous equipment following all safety precautions. They will also utilize specifications and blueprints to create a variety of structures. They should have a steady hand, great attention to detail and some knowledge of different kinds of metal and their properties.
Essential Functions:- Read blueprints and drawings and take or read measurements to plan layout and procedures
- Determine the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements
- Set up components for welding according to specifications (e.g., cut material with powered saws to match measurements)
- Operate angle grinders to prepare the parts that must be welded
- Align components using calipers, rulers etc. and clamp pieces
- Weld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions (vertical, horizontal, or overhead)
- Repair machinery and other components by welding pieces and filling gaps
- Test and inspect welded surfaces and structure to discover flaws
- Maintain equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety
- 3 5 years of proven experience welding metal structures
- Experience using a variety of welding equipment and procedures (TIG, MIG, MMA etc.)
- Experience in using electrical or manual tools (saws, squares, calipers etc.)
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings
- Knowledge of relative safety standards and willingness to use protective clothing (face-shield, gloves etc.)
- Good understanding of quality control principles
- Good communication skills (verbal and written)
- High school diploma or equivalent work experience; AWS welding certification or degree from a technical school OR apprenticeship is preferred

+ Lead 5S/process improvement projects relating to specific shop operation jobs
+ Assist with performance of welding procedure development and interpretations
+ Perform welding operation and system audits

+ Supports site wide initiatives for streamlining manufacturing for welding related applications (standardization or work scopes, work cell development/ownership, process improvements, etc.).
+ Programs welding parameters on programmable equipment.
+ Trains and assists welders/operators in production welding environment on process, welding equipment, qualification requirements, etc.
+ Follows detailed manufacturing plans, providing direction to shop personnel and supervision.
+ Support equipment related improvement projects such as identifying and procuring new welding equipment, coordinating PM activities for existing equipment, evaluating spare parts inventory, etc.
+ Prepares and reviews welding/fabrication support material and training aids (i.e., bead placement sketches, setup sheets, welding instructions)
**Required Qualifications:**
+ High school graduate, or equivalent.
+ Ideal applicant has 3 - 5 years of welding experience in a shop environment

We are currently seeking qualified applicants to fill a robotic welding operator position at our facility in Barberton, Ohio. The successful candidate will operate submerged arc welding, cladding machines and automatic and robotic (MotoMan and Gantry robots) metal inert gas equipment to produce quality welds. Identify and perform basic layout to determine clad limits. Responsible for using proper wire and flux for the job. Inspects welds, grinds and arc airs to remove defects. Attach preheat torches inside and outside and maintains proper preheat temperatures.
