**Description:**
We are looking for a Network Engineer to join our Viasat Government group! In this exciting role, you will be responsible for supporting the design, maintenance, and modernization of a critical global satellite communications system! You will be updating the network equipment hardware and software in both a lab and production environment. This includes auditing equipment health, identifying faulted units, troubleshooting faults, ordering, tracking, installing, and configuring replacement parts, as well as identifying and patching IA vulnerabilities. Your duties will include making design changes to datacenter racks to modernize the existing equipment and/or replace end of life parts. You will also be working with vendors to get quotes for new parts for the system. Part of your duties may require travel to deploy new datacenter racks and/or perform maintenance on those racks. Other engineering support duties may include analysis and remediation of networking hardware, operating system, and software security vulnerabilities and documentation of the remediation process.
**Pay Rate:** $70 - $5 an hour

**Responsibilities:**
+ Install, design, and troubleshoot LANs and WANs with IPSEC tunnels on all layers of the OSI stack.
+ Configure, test, troubleshoot and patch modern network routers, switches and firewalls on Cisco, Fortinet and Palo Alto devices
+ Maintenance of datacenter rack equipment including servers, network equipment, RF equipment, ethernet and power cables etc.
+ Design, test, and deployment of EOL replacement devices to the ground segment of a global communications network.
+ Supporting engineering efforts for IA remediation of network equipment and applicable software.
**Experience Requirements:**
+ 5+ years of experience working with TCP/IP network design and troubleshooting, Linux systems, Satcom systems, etc
+ 3+ years of experience working with satellite communication server racks and equipment
+ Relevant networking certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, Network+, Security+, etc
+ Work experience with procuring and setting up networking and communication systems, RF equipment and peripherals such as ethernet and power cables, PDUs, etc
**What will help you on the job**
+ Experience with network design and device qualification.
+ Experience with online network device updates and IA patches.
+ Experience with live production network troubleshooting and maintaining SLAs.
+ Server room management and maintenance experience.
+ Some work experience with virtualization technologies such as ESXI, OpenStack etc.

+ Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Technology, a related field of study or equivalent years of experience

**Network Engineer**
**Location:**
APC (Birmingham, AL) or GPC (Atlanta, GA) headquarters.
**Purpose:**
As a Network Engineer on the Fixed Wireless Team, you will be responsible for providing day-to-day support and assistance of the Fixed Wireless fleet and backend network architecture, which includes supporting 34,000+ GE Orbit routers, 180 Sierra Wireless routers, and 200 Cradlepoint routers. This also includes updating and developing process and troubleshooting documentation, ad-hoc and onsite training to support groups, network device management, equipment lifecycle management, and performing 24x7 on-call support every 3 rd week or as needed.
**General Job Responsibilities:**
+ Perform on-call duties as assigned
+ Work with Field Operations Technicians to resolve Fixed UE issues
+ Provide excellent customer service to meet or exceed service level agreements or priorities
+ Create and modify network documentation and drawings
+ Create and modify troubleshooting documentation
+ Work with vendors and service providers to resolve connectivity and hardware issues.
+ Participate in upgrades and patch management of GE PulseNet and cellular routers
+ Create and schedule network or maintenance change requests
+ Attend Operating Company meetings to resolve SCADA issues pertaining to Fixed UEs
