THE OPPORTUNITY
Silvus is seeking a _Wireless Communication Systems Enginee_ _r_ who will report to the _R&D Director, Communications Systems_ on the _Research & Development (R&D)_ team. The successful individual in this role will participate in all phases of wireless technology projects including planning, design, implementation, prototyping, verification, and validation.
The location for this role is at Silvus Technologies' Engineering and R&D Office in **Irvine, CA** , near the vibrant Irvine Spectrum. The position is on a hybrid schedule, with a minimum of 4 days/week on-site (with the occasional drive to the LA HQ as needed). On-site days are Monday through Thursday.
The following is a list of at least some of the current essential job functions of the position. Management may assign or reassign duties and responsibilities at any time at its discretion.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
+ System design and requirement specification.
+ Algorithmic development, simulation, implementation, and testing.
+ System performance simulation, benchmarking, and testing.
+ Fixed point modeling and FPGA design and verification support.
+ Support FPGA and Software development teams for hardware/software implementation and troubleshooting.
+ Lead a team of multi-disciplinary engineers for product and feature development as needed.
+ Setting, tracking, and driving development schedules and tasks.
+ Design and participate in lab and field testing and troubleshooting.
+ Technical material preparation and documentation.
+ Participate in R&D business development and capture efforts as needed.
+ Understand current products and technologies and brainstorm with other teams for future enhancements and strategies.
+ Infrequent travel to support customer interactions or test and demonstration events.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
+ MS. degree or Ph.D. degree in the field of wireless communications and signal processing, electrical engineering, computer engineering, systems engineering, or relevant engineering fields.
+ Minimum of 3 years of experience in the design and development of wireless systems.
+ Participation in the complete wireless technology development cycle: from design to field testing.
+ Demonstrated knowledge and experience in RF propagation and channel modeling,
+ Comprehensive expertise in all parts of digital communication systems such as RF subsystems, synchronizations, channel estimation, channel coding, etc.
+ Extensive knowledge and expertise in signal processing algorithms, MIMO, OFDM, etc.
+ Strong understanding of modeling and mitigating RF impairments to signals such as AGC, phase noise, frequency/clock offset, etc.
+ Experience with fixed point modeling, implementation, and verification.
+ Expert in MATLAB programming and simulation.
+ **Must be a U.S. Citizen due to clients under U.S. government contracts**

As a Wireless Engineer you will be responsible for troubleshooting the customers' LAN and Wireless infrastructure. This includes troubleshooting of switching and wireless equipment needed to supply connectivity to all areas of the site. Qualifications

    CCNA preferred
  • 1+ years' experience with network integration or network support
  • Experience with wireless surveys preffered
  • Experience with Cisco wireless controllers
  • AirMagnet survey or Mobility Service Engine (MSE) experience nice to have
  • Excellence in documentation and communication is critical
  • Position requires lifting of up to 50 lbs. independently and up to 150 lbs. with assistance
  • Position requires standing, squatting, climbing, and lifting from floor to waist and from waist to over shoulders
  • Position requires the carrying and use of ladders in addition to twisting, bending, crawling and entering attics or crawl spaces are required on a consistent basis

Responsibilities

As a Wireless Engineer you will be working with a variety of technology tools and systems to implement and maintain WAN/LAN systems. This role is part of a team that improves the customer's large-scale IT environment with SLRs/SLAs for high availability and uptime. The Wireless Engineer manages, maintains, plans, schedules, integrates, and troubleshoots the overall network and its devices-WANs, LANs, WLANs, VPNs, VoIP, etc.-and monitors network health. The Wireless Engineer will handle WAP installation planning, upgrades, and testing. This position is fully onsite reporting to our client's downtown Chicago, IL location.

Qualifications

    5+ years of experience in a Wireless Network Engineering role
  • Experience with Wireless tools is required
  • Hands-on experience configuring OSPF and BGP routing is required
  • Experience with 9800 wireless LAN controllers, ios-xe and enterprise or carrier-class Cisco routers is required
  • Configuration and administration experience with Meraki equipment is preferred
  • Experience with Catalyst center is preferred
  • The candidate must have a car, as this position requires travel between location and the transportation of equipment
  • A valid driver's license and proof of vehicle insurance will be required
  • Legally authorized to work in the US without sponsorship
  • Must demonstrate a "can-do" attitude

**RESPONSIBILITIES**
+ Design, planning, coordination, and installation of Aruba wireless and WIDS infrastructure within a DoD environment.
+ Configuration and troubleshooting of Aruba wireless infrastructure including Mobility Conductors, Mobility Controllers, Access Points (AP's), Airwave and WIDS
+ Configuration and troubleshooting of WIDS and Airwave monitoring and management application along with integration of infrastructure with existing SIEM systems
+ Integration of Aruba wireless infrastructure with Cisco ISE
+ Create and/or update detailed documents and diagrams including As-built Documents, IA/ATO documentation and Standard Operating Procedures.
+ Ongoing monitoring and tuning of WIDS
+ Troubleshoot and resolve complex network and application issues.
+ Work both within a team and individually with minimal supervision.
+ Provide ongoing operational training and Tier III support post implementation
**REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS**
+ Minimum Top-Secret Clearance
+ Minimum 4-year college degree, Master's degree preferred but not required
+ 8+ years of experience in enterprise network design and implementation.
+ 8+ years of experience supporting enterprise wireless and WIDS environments.
+ Extensive knowledge and experience with the configuration and troubleshooting of wired and wireless network devices from Aruba as well as familiarity with other vendors including Cisco and Palo Alto
+ Experience with Microsoft Office Application including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project and Visio.
+ Experience with wired and/or wireless network design and implementation for DoD environments
+ Familiarity with implementation of DISA STIGS for Aruba Wireless devices
+ On-site position so must be located near Ft. Belvoir VA or willing to relocate at personal expense
+ 8570 IAT II level certification, i.e. active Security + CE

**Overview**
The Wireless RF/WIDS SME I will be a critical member of a collaborative team to provide engineering design, testing, and implementation support for an Aruba secure wireless and Wireless Intrusion Detection (WIDS) infrastructure within a DoD environment. This person must have extensive experience with the implementation and troubleshooting of enterprise level Aruba wireless and WIDS solutions as well as familiarity with other vendors including Cisco and Palo Alto. The Wireless RF/WIDS SME I will work closely with other engineering resources to plan, coordinate, and execute the installation and configuration of the Aruba Wireless/WIDS solution. Once implementation is complete, they will remain onsite to provide ongoing monitoring, tuning and Tier III operational support for the wireless and WIDS infrastructure. As a Senior Wireless Engineer, you will provide technical leadership and expert-level engineering support for the planning, design, implementation, and sustainment of secure wireless network systems. Major Job Activities:

  • Leads implementation of architectural vision for all Wi-Fi access points and control-related services across BAN.

  • Understands requirements; plans optimal Wi-Fi designs for spectrum usage and device placement.

  • Follows standards for all designs and implementations.

  • Installs, configures, and maintains wireless network equipment, network management, and security, including 802.11 b/g/n/ac standards and industry best practices for implementing high-density Wi-Fi solutions.

  • Devises, plans, deploys, and improves wireless networks, from the beginning to implementation, by collaborating with vendors, managers, and network engineers.

  • Leads and guides junior engineers.

  • Self-starter with assigned tasks.

  • Understands client requirements to cater to their appropriate needs.

  • Uses tools to evaluate, test, and tweak wireless products, such as routers, switches, hubs, bridges, VPNs, and network amplifiers.

  • Designs and validates the performance, quality, and reliability of the RF link.

  • Designs and implements WLANs and other wireless networks.

  • Writes manuals and documents current network procedures.

  • Has extensive knowledge of routing protocols (OSPF, EIGRP, and BGP).

  • Make use of enterprise monitoring tools (SolarWinds and Splunk).

  • Optimizes network performance by supervising performance, addressing network problems and breakdowns, and partnering with network engineers to optimize the network.

  • Develops and implements policies and classifies and oversees access to protect network systems.

  • Make sure all equipment, including servers and the other network products, are well connected.

  • Devises and supports RF link performance, reliability, and quality.

  • Enables data and system protection by developing and maintaining mechanisms for backup and retrieval.

  • Collaborates with different teams to ensure the optimized performance of VoIP and other wireless telecommunication devices.

  • Works with security teams to evaluate threats, troubleshoot issues, and comply with appropriate security configuration standards of their organizations.

  • Proactively handles all network security solutions.
