Position Summary
Nurse Extern works under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse. Reports to: Manager Accountable to: Chief Nursing Officer: Non-exempt
Qualifications and requirements
* Education: School of Nursing 3rd year student or higher
* Certifications: Basic Life Support Health Care Provider (BLS-HCP)
* Must have a GPA of 3.0
Essential Functions
Works collaboratively with the patient care team. Performs direct patient care under the direction, delegation and supervision of a registered nurse. Documents patient care given. Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate to supervising RN. Maintains positive professional relationship with patient/ families, coworkers, and health care team. Assists patients with performing activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation. Collaborates as needed across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral and spiritual/psychosocial support needs. Evaluates learning needs of patient and/or family and provides patient/family education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances. Works as an advocate for the physical and emotional well-being of the patient. Supports performance improvement philosophy.

Patient Care : Acts with patient advocacy when implementing the interdisciplinary plan of care.

- Ensures completion of nursing interventions, medical orders, and other related therapies.
- Prioritizes job duties according to patients' needs and changing acuity levels.

This position is for a LDRP unit, which includes Labor, Delivery, Recovery, and Postpartum. We're seeking experienced registered nurses with at least two years experience in Labor and Delivery or LDRP to provide exceptional care to new mothers and their newborns.

Responsibilities
The Registered Nurse serves as a leader of the healthcare team at Novant Health by establishing an authentic personalized relationship with the patient and their chosen support system, collaborating with physicians and other team members to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate an individualized plan of care that promotes optimal health or supports a peaceful death. The Registered Nurse utilizes best scientific evidence and compassion to assist the patient in navigating their health journey. The Registered Nurse accepts responsibility, authority, and accountability for management and provision of care in accordance with the current policies and procedures.

If your RN nursing license has been inactive, retired or lapsed for five years or more and you have not been licensed in another state during the last five years, successful completion of a Board approved refresher course is required prior to reactivating or reinstating your license. In order to be considered for current licensure status, you must apply for reinstatement within one year of completing the refresher course.
Qualifications

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required.

Associate's or Bachelor's degree in nursing.

Current valid North Carolina nursing license required.

One-year relevant experience, preferred.
