Evaluate startups and inform investment decisions through expertise in software engineering and financial analysis. Build detailed financial models and conduct valuation analyses using multiple techniques, including comparable company, transaction, discounted cash flow, and leveraged buyout analyses. Create industry overview pieces to guide investment focus and perform in-depth due diligence with an emphasis on technological assessments, including cloud infrastructure, software architecture, cybersecurity protocols, penetration testing, and PII safeguards. Develop robust processes for evaluating startups' technological infrastructure and integrate insights with financial analyses to support venture capital activities. Assess startups in fintech and related industries, leveraging advanced computing systems, artificial intelligence, and IoT to identify high-impact opportunities. Portfolio management involving recurring valuation analyses, tracking key metrics such as IRR, TVPI, and calculating quarterly, semiannual, and annual performance metrics. Utilize tools including Capital IQ, Pitchbook, Crunchbase, and others to monitor performance and assess potential impairments. Collaborate across functional areas, including distribution, technology, operations, and product lines, ensuring investments align with strategic priorities. Lead efforts to connect portfolio companies with internal teams, fostering partnerships and knowledge sharing. Prepare detailed investment memos for investment committee, maintain and adjust thematic investment frameworks, and conduct regular outreach to stay updated on portfolio company progress. Identify potential partnership opportunities internally and with external portfolio companies, supporting operational synergies and leveraging emerging technologies to advance key priorities. Develop communication plans to position Strategic Investing team as thought leaders in startup ecosystem, both internally and externally. Telecommuting permitted 1 day per week. Salary $125,070- $208,520 per year.

Minimum Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering or a related quantitative analytical field and 5 years of software engineering experience or in a related occupation. Experience must include 5 years of experience with each of the following: (1) developing product and test software using C, C++, Python, Java, JavaScript, and C#; (2) product cybersecurity and the adoption of secure programming standards in C and C++ and secure data management; and (3) developing and managing the full lifecycle of embedded software systems and applications including requirements, system design, programming, and testing.

Introduction to the team

Tax Services teams deliver quality tax solutions to public and privately owned middle-market companies, not-for-profit organizations and high net worth individuals.

Responsibilities :

  • Advise clients on corporate, partnership, individual and trust and estate tax services
  • Oversee the calculation and analysis of proprietary tax strategies for clients
  • Continue to develop relationships with clients, including involvement in networking and business development activities
  • Provide clients with in depth industry knowledge
  • Ensure that Seniors and Staff are up to date on current tax practices and changes in tax law
  • Provide both leadership and supervision to Tax Seniors and Staff

Qualifications :

  • Bachelors degree in accounting or related field required; Master of Tax preferred
  • Minimum of 4 years of related experience
  • Previous experience in a public accounting firm preferred
  • CPA or Bar License required
  • Minimum of 2 years of supervising and training experience
  • Proficient in corporate, partnership and individual taxation
  • Proven experience with venture capital or private equity funds highly preferred
  • Prior experience working with large, multi-state, internationally active middle-market clients preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational skills required for managing multiple client engagements
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

Compensation is commensurate with experience. Base salary $100,000-$20,000+, bonus (20%-40%) and 100% of health / medical benefits paid for by the firm. Newly created Portfolio Accountant position within a San Francisco-based venture capital / investment firm started almost 20 years ago. The company is thriving and experience tremendous growth and success! They are looking for a highly motivated and team-oriented individual to join their growing Finance team. This person will be a member of a four-person Finance team which is responsible for all accounting, record keeping, investment valuations, partner allocations, audit and tax filings, investor relations / reporting and database management for 25+ entities (funds and SPV's). Fund Accounting is being outsourced. The specific responsibilities include : Perform quarterly close process including valuations Oversight of daily cash management Process investor capital activity, income allocations, and fees Coordination of capital calls / distributions Collaborate with and manage outsourced fund administrator Design scalable, repeatable, and adaptable processes through automation and / or implementation of new applications Assist with annual US GAAP financial statement preparation and audit process Act as a liaison to the Investment team Onboarding new investors including review of Sub docs and assist with overseeing KYC compliance Perform other special projects as requested Demonstrate understanding of US tax reporting including K-1 reviews Assist with Management Company accounting and reporting Candidates should possess the following characteristics and qualifications : Undergraduate or graduate degree, preferably in accounting or finance Strong critical thinking and problem solving abilities Commitment to excellence and pride in work product Ability to perform technical research and writing and to implement those ideas into actionable processes that are both scalable and repeatable Strong computer skills, particularly Excel; Ability to create macros is a plus Experience in accounting for or auditing investment companies, familiarity with diverse portfolios is a plus (private company and fund investments) Demonstrate flexibility and ability to work both independently and in team environment with personnel throughout every level of the firm Desire to work in the details while demonstrating a strong grasp on macro perspective Ability to multitask and effectively prioritize work assignments Excellent verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, and documentation skills This is an excellent opportunity for a person who wants to work in a dynamic, fast paced environment, and be a key contributor to building out a best-in-class venture capital firm.
