Vision for this Role:

To assist the Youth Discipleship Coordinator in connecting, coordinating, developing and executing discipling ministry activities for the Jr. High and High School students of First Presbyterian Church of Hollywood (FPCH).

We are looking for someone who will: 

  • Attend  weekly Sunday School class and assist the Youth Discipleship Coordinator in teaching and Spiritual formation of the youth
  • Establish and maintain a warm and Godly relationship with all students, particularly the young ladies, with the guidance of the Youth Discipleship Coordinator 
  • Encourage and counsel the youth to better know and grow in their faith in Jesus Christ
  • Work alongside the Youth Discipleship Coordinator in planning and leading camp and youth social activities throughout the year
  • Assist Youth Discipleship Coordinator and Director of Christian Education in evaluating programs to ensure the current needs and goals for the youth are being met 
  • Administrative tasks as assigned by the Youth Discipleship Coordinator
  • Must attend weekly in-person staff meetings and/or Youth Ministries meetings as requested by Pastor, Youth Discipleship Coordinator or Director of Christian Education 
  • Must attend monthly check in/planning meetings with Christian Ed Director

Position Overview

The All-Level Youth Coordinator (ages 4-17) plays a vital role in fostering a safe, inclusive, and spiritually enriching environment for children, tweens, and teens at Lakeside Chautauqua during its summer season. This position has dual responsibilities: to oversee and coordinate scheduling and engagement at “The Underground”—a dedicated youth hangout space for ages 14 and up—and to serve as the primary program lead for teens ages 14–17. Additionally, the All-Level Youth Coordinator will support Children’s Ministry (ages 4–9) and Middle School (ages 10-13) programming as needed.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Primary Role ( ages 14-17)
    • Plan, implement, and evaluate creative, faith-forming, pedagogically sound, and age-appropriate programming for youth ages 14-17, including spiritual formation, recreation, service opportunities, and leadership development.
    • Serve as the lead staff presence for The Underground, coordinating a weekly schedule of supervised drop-in times, structured activities, special events, and guest interactions.
    • Coordinate a weekly schedule of youth volunteer workers to assist in staffing The Underground
    • Foster a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment that encourages faith formation and investigation, friendship, and broader community engagement
  2. Secondary Roles (ages 4-13)
    • Serve as a backup for the Children’s Ministry and Middle School Ministry staff, including classroom assistance, worship assistance, recreational supervision, and spiritual leadership.
    • Collaborate with the Children’s and Middle School teams to ensure continuity of care and programming across age groups.
    • Step into leadership roles during staff absences, emergencies, or peak programming weeks.
  3. Administration & Collaboration
    • The All-Level Youth Coordinator will work with The Director of Religious Life to prepare and manage youth programming budgets, taking into consideration all Lakeside Chautauqua administrative procedures.
    • Participate in regular staff meetings, offering updates on youth (and children’s, as needed) activities.
    • Communicate effectively with parents, guardians, and the wider community about upcoming events and opportunities for youth and assist middle school and children’s staff to facilitate the communication of their programming across the age spectrum.
  4. Program Evaluation
    • The All-Level Youth Coordinator will gather feedback, attendance, and assess youth program effectiveness throughout the season and offer secondary feedback on children’s and middle school programming.
    • Make recommendations for improvements and provide a summary report at the end of the summer season, due no later than 30 Sept 2025.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in youth and children’s ministries, or related fields.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Excellent worship music leadership skills a strong plus, but not crucial.
  • Ability to cultivate a positive, inclusive, and supportive environment for participants, their families and volunteer staff.
  • Live within a reasonable driving distance of Lakeside, Chautauqua, suitable for daily commute.

Compensation

  • Total Salary: $15,000-$20,000 (commensur te with experience) for the entire summer season, covering all youth and related middle school and children’s responsibilities. The leader will be paid during May- August according to the normal pay schedule (every 2 weeks), as outlined by Lakeside’s HR department.

Purpose:

The Stewards Individual Placements AmeriCorps Program is committed to fostering connections between youth and the natural world while expanding career awareness in conservation. Serving middle and high school students in southern West Virginia, this program values education, community engagement, and workforce development. Through innovative curriculum design, leadership training, and partnership-building, the program empowers young people to explore career pathways in outdoor industries while strengthening local conservation efforts.

This AmeriCorps Position will focus on developing a middle school curriculum and creating a Youth Conservation Corps for high school students. The member will research best practices, collaborate with educators and professionals, and establish meaningful partnerships to enhance programming. Additionally, they will support volunteer training, secure funding opportunities, and engage with community leaders to ensure long-term program sustainability.

The AmeriCorps VISTA member will build capacity and develop sustainable solutions to alleviate poverty in underserved communities.

Description of Duties:
  • Design an Outdoor Education Curriculum - Create a fun and engaging program for middle school students to learn about conservation careers and outdoor recreation.
  • Develop a Youth Conservation Corps - Help establish a high school program where students (ages 16-18) can gain hands-on experience, earn a wage, and build life skills.
  • Learn from Experts - Travel to other youth conservation programs to observe best practices and bring new ideas back to West Virginia.
  • Grow Your Professional Network - Participate in Leadership Beckley , a program that connects you with local business and community leaders.
  • Promote Outdoor Opportunities - Explore West Virginia's parks, trails, and outdoor recreation sites to better connect students with local experiences.
  • Build Career Connections - Work with conservation professionals and outdoor industry leaders to expand career exposure for students.
  • Strengthen Partnerships - Develop relationships with local, state, and national recreation programs to support long-term program success.
  • Support Educators & Volunteers - Create training materials and resources to help teachers, volunteers, and mentors engage with students.
  • Secure Funding & Resources - Identify potential funding sources and partnerships to sustain and grow the program.

Time Requirements:

Evaluation and Reporting:

As an AmeriCorps VISTA member, performance will be evaluated on whether the member has completed their required year of service; the member has satisfactorily completed assignments; and if the member has met other performance criteria that were clearly communicated at the beginning of the term of service.

Reporting requirements include, but are not limited to, bi-weekly timesheets, accomplishment tracking, and quarterly reporting.
