We have immediate opportunity for all levels of Wildlife Biological Monitors for the Central Valley Area. MUST have Wildlife Biological Monitoring Experience in California.

VARIOUS DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (other duties may be assigned)

  • Experience and knowledge of wildlife species in the Central Valley including small mammals, birds, and reptiles.
  • Familiarity with state and federal regulations, knowledge of environmental regulatory process is a must.
  • Experience with monitoring all ground distributing activity including mass grading, grubbing, weed abatement, trenching and any excavation on previously disturbed and undisturbed ground.
  • Does or oversees field inspections of proposed project areas.
  • Perform biological monitoring at construction sites to implement mitigation measures.
  • Conduct field surveys.
  • Record data for scientific and compliance purposes using company forms and established field methodology.
  • Ability to read maps.
  • Prepare daily progress/monitoring reports as needed by the project.
  • Use GPS equipment (Garmin/Trimble) for field data collection.
  • Ability to travel to be in the field for extended periods and able to work in rough terrain and challenging weather inclement.
  • Work independently or as part of a team.

VARIOUS DEGREES & SKILLS

  • Master’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Biology or closely related field.
  • Previous construction monitoring experience in similar California environments.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal environmental regulations.
  • Team player with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Sound business ethics, including the protection of proprietary and confidential information.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Applications (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel) and project tracking software and databases.
  • Experience with any of the following species: Tipton Kangaroo Rat, San Joaquin Antelope Squirrel, California Tiger Salamander, San Joaquin Kit Fox, Giant Garter Snake

**Job Description**
**AECOM**  is seeking a **Wildlife Biologist - field focus (Biologist II)** to support some of California's most exciting and important projects. We are seeking a motivated individual to join our group of more than 100 environmental professionals in the Bay Area. _This hybrid position will join our AECOM Natural Resources team based in the Oakland office_ .
This position would support a variety of projects and clients in northern California, with a focus on field assessments and surveys, construction monitoring, and technical writing.
**The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:**
+ Surveys for special-status wildlife and nesting birds.
+ Monitoring of construction activities for compliance with environmental requirements and/or permits.
+ Preparation of reports documenting survey or monitoring results.

**Qualifications**
**Minimum Requirements:**
+ Bachelor's degree in biology, Ecology, or a related field.
+ 2 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education in construction monitoring, environmental inspection, habitat assessments, and biological surveys.
+ Valid U.S. Driver License is required for this position.
**Preferred Qualifications:**
+ 4+ years of relevant experience.
+ Knowledgeable about common and special-status northern California wildlife species.
+ Experience surveying for special-status species that may occur in the San Francisco Bay Area, such as nesting birds, California red-legged frog, California tiger salamander, Alameda whipsnake, and others.
+ Plant identification skills are desirable but are not required.
+ Experience writing and preparing permit applications or other supporting technical documentation.
+ Experience with field data collection tools such as Collector, Trimble units, and others.
+ Has a positive attitude and is adaptable to changing priorities in a fast-paced work environment.
**Additional Information**
+ Due to the nature of the work, US Citizenship is required.
Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $72,000.00 - $2,000.00.

**On-Call Field Biologist/Botanist**
**California Central Coast Region**
**Job Description**
The ICF On-Call Field Biologist will be responsible for a range of biological field services, including construction monitoring, avian species identification and nest surveys, general and focused biological field surveys, and providing as-needed field support to our local and regional Biological Services Team members.
**Key Responsibilities**
Plan and execute field assignments for Central California-based work (with a focus on San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara Counties), with occasional travel to counties including, but not limited to, Orange, Riverside, San Diego, Los Angeles, San Bernardino and Ventura Counties. Conduct general and species-specific biological surveys and monitoring pursuant to the relevant regulations, codes and/or industry standards. Document field findings in monitoring logs, reports, memos or email communications, as appropriate. Communicate with client field contacts and ICF senior biologists.
**About On-Call Employment with ICF**
Given the seasonal or project-specific nature of our environmental work, ICF often hires environmental professionals as "On-Call" employees. On-Call employees are scheduled for work hours as they become available (we usually schedule work hours a few weeks ahead of time), and each on-call employee is free to accept or refuse the hours assigned to them in a given week. On-Call employees may work concurrent projects outside of their ICF assignment (along as their outside work does not create a conflict of interest with the work they do for ICF).
**Requirements**
+ A BA/BS in Biology, Ecology, or related discipline
+ 2+ years of environmental/consulting and biological field experience
+ Must have valid driver's license and successfully pass a Motor Vehicles Records (MVR) check.
**Preferred Skills**
+ Basic documentation/data management experience
+ Experience working in the environmental compliance and/or construction fields (i.e., biological construction monitoring).
+ Geographic Information System (GIS) software skills
+ Intermediate or advanced nest surveying, active nest monitoring, and buffer establishment.
+ Basic botanical knowledge of central and southern California
+ Avian nest monitoring and species identification skills
+ Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
+ Strong written and oral communication skills
+ Strong organizational skills
+ Ability to respond timely to deployment requests (i.e., sometimes next day)
+ Ability to travel to field sites in Central and Southern California and occasionally assist with surveys in rugged, undeveloped terrain
+ Ability and experience conducting work in active construction sites and communicating with operators
+ Proficiency in MS Office Applications (Word, Outlook, Excel)

**What You Will Do**
+ Independently and collaboratively perform field surveys for special-status species, natural communities and habitats. Field surveys may include walking transects, walking and mapping habitat boundaries, trapping or collecting specimens, visually identifying animals.
+ Independently perform environmental compliance monitoring at construction sites (including preconstruction clearance surveys and environmental awareness training), coordinating with construction crews, and being responsive to ever-changing schedules.
+ Evaluate project plans in coordination with the task lead for determining potential impacts on special-status species and other biological resources.
+ Prepare daily field notes summarizing field survey results and monitoring responsibilities.
**What You Will Need**
+ Bachelor's Degree in Biological Sciences, Environmental Science, or other related field of study.
+ 3+ years of experience with biological monitoring, construction monitoring, field surveys for special-status species and natural communities and habitats in Northern California.
+ Must have valid driver's license and successfully pass a Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) check.
**What We'd Like You to Have**
+ Experience conducting surveys for Northern CA special-status wildlife species including mammals, giant garter snake, California tiger salamander, California red-legged frog, and/or foothill yellow-legged frog.
+ Nesting bird/rail/raptor survey experience.
+ Experience with monitoring construction crews and overseeing environmental compliance.
+ Proficiency with data entry and formatting.
+ Proficiency in use of Microsoft Word and Excel.
+ Proficiency in use of GPS technology for navigation and data collection in the field.

The on-call biologist must be able to travel to remote field sites in other counties, including but not limited to Los Angeles, Kern, San Bernadino, Tulare, Inyo, Kings, Fresno, Madera, Santa Barbara, and Ventura Counties.

**Preferred Skills**
+ Avian nest monitoring and species identification skills with experience conducting nesting bird field surveys and avian habitat assessments on 3+ projects with at least 2 of these projects located in the southwestern U.S.
+ Experience leading all three phases of western burrowing owl protocol surveys on 3+ projects including positive identification of individual owls in the wild
+ Experience conducting native special status reptile or amphibian species surveys or monitoring on 3+ projects with positive results and identification of target species
+ Experience leading field surveys or trapping for small mammals on 3+ California projects including possession of a CDFW scientific collecting permit
+ Basic documentation/data management experience
+ Experience working in the environmental compliance and/or construction fields (i.e., biological construction monitoring).
+ Basic botanical knowledge of central and southern California with demonstrated participation in 5+ field botanical rare plant surveys and habitat mapping assessments in California of which at least 3 of these projects in southern or central California
+ Geographic Information System (GIS) software skills
+ Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
+ Strong written and oral communication skills
+ Strong organizational skills
+ Ability to respond timely to deployment requests (i.e., sometimes next day)
