Leisure Travel Underwriter How does this role contribute to our collective success?AXIS Specialty A&H works with various Managing General Underwriters (MGUs) and Program Managers that are or will generate significant Accident & Health business in the U.S. and Canada in addition to new opportunities in 2026. This individual, will act within established guidelines to develop, analyze, review, evaluate and monitor new and renewal accounts, process accounts and handle underwriting activities.
What will you do in this role?- Perform all underwriting roles for Leisure Travel business.
- Underwriting existing A&H Partners:
- Evaluates cases as received from MGUs and Program Managers.
- For complex opportunities/programs, reviews and evaluates submissions to determine risk acceptability and coverage levels. Then works with Actuarial team for approval.
- Works closely with program manager and external MGUs/Program Mangers to obtain additional required information in determining either our new business or renewal position.
- Works with Legal, Product, Operations and Business Development to modify existing MGUs/Programs.
- Develops and maintains both internal and external producer/program relationships.
- Sets appropriate premium rates, issues proposals for programs/cases, and letters of intent when appropriate.
- Performs a portfolio review on an annual basis to determine renewal position for the book of business.
- Reporting:
- Updates and Maintains Monthly Specialty A&H UW Reports.
- Creates ad hoc reports when necessary.
- Policy Issuance:
- Creates and issues all policies that are not within the Template authority delegated to MGUs/MGAs
- Achieve targeted loss ratios and combined ratios by maintaining underwriting discipline through the underwriting selection and renewal process.
- Manages day-to-day tasks of assigned risk portfolio.
- Acts as liaison between internal functional departments and external vendors.
- Handles special projects and assignments at the request of A&H leadership team.
- Ensure digital files are maintained per AXIS Insurance procedures including but not limited to proper documentation, structure, and authorizations.
You may also be required to take on additional duties, responsibilities and activities appropriate to the nature of this role.

What you need to have:- Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, Mathematics, Finance, Risk Management, Insurance or related field preferred
- Requires at least two (2) years Accident & Health Underwriting experience. P&C insurance is not required but helpful.
- Requires at least three (3) years of experience working with and overseeing MGAs/MGUs or Program Managers.
- Market Segment knowledge: Leisure Travel.
- Product knowledge: Accidental Death, Accident Medical Expense, Catastrophic Medical, Disability, Participant Accident, Out of Country Medical Insurance and Leisure Travel Insurance a plus.
- Other product knowledge helpful but not required: Corporate Accident (Business Travel Accident, Voluntary Accident), Occupational Accident, Critical Illness, Life, Supplemental Medical, Dental and Vision.
- Ability to work with large data sets to evaluate past performance and use data to determine acceptable rating metrics.
- Strong project management skills
- Experience in Power BI or other Dashboard reporting system.

For this position, we currently expect to offer a base salary in the range of $110k to $150k. Your salary offer will be based on an assessment of a variety of factors including your specific experience and work location.

- The candidate MUST have a minimum of 3 years experience as a travel advisor.
- Participate fully as a team member to assist as needed in completing all functions relating to servicing customers.
- Research and provide solutions to travel-related problems clients experience.
- Keep fully informed about all airline rules and regulations, tariffs (domestic) and other industry requirements and accurately apply this information when making travel arrangements.

Proficiency in MS Office preferred particularly Outlook, Word and Excel. Familiarity with corporate online booking tools is preferred.

- Work on matters across the globe
- Review, draft, and negotiate a variety of agreements, including letters of intent, purchase and sale agreements, hotel management, license and franchise agreements, joint venture agreements, and more
- Advise on financings, including negotiation of loan documents and related deliverables
- Manage deal closings from start to finish
- Conduct due diligence and handle all aspects of transactional work
Pursuant with states' laws, the salary range for this position will be $235,000 to $310,000, based on experience. Based on years of experience, Dentons associates may have a title of Associate, Managing Associate, or Senior Managing Associate. Dentons US LLP offers a competitive salary and benefits package including medical, dental, vision, 401k, short-term/long-term disability, life insurance, tuition reimbursement, paid time off, paid holidays and discretionary bonuses.

- Outstanding oral and written communication skills
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
- The ability to manage competing demands with efficiency and poise
- A collaborative spirit and a commitment to teamwork
- 2–4 years of legal experience in real estate/transactional work (hospitality industry experience is a plus)
- Previous law firm experience (large and sophisticated deal experience preferred)
- Must be licensed to practice law and be in good standing in the state where the hired candidate will be practicing. Washington, DC candidates may also be licensed in any US state or territory if they are also eligible to waive into the Washington DC Bar pursuant to DC Court of Appeals Rule 49 and agree to apply for an Exception to admission
