Salary and Benefits

Annual Base Salary for newly appointed BPAs varies per grade, as follows:

  • GL-5/GL-7 49,739 - $8 ,518 per year
  • Duty location impacts pay rates; locality pay for federal law enforcement is higher in some locations than others. A fully trained BPA may be eligible for up to an additional 25% of base pay per the BPA Pay Reform Act of 2014. This is a career ladder position with a grade level progression of GL-5, GL-7, GL-9, GS-11, and GS-12. You will be eligible for a promotion to the next higher grade level (without reapplying) once you successfully complete 52 weeks in each grade level.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    As a BPA, you will be part of our 60,000+ workforce that strives to protect the American people by safeguarding our borders, deterring illicit activity, and enhancing the nation’s economic prosperity.     Typical assignments include:

  • Detecting and questioning people suspected of violating immigration and custom laws and inspecting documents and possessions to determine citizenship or violations
  • Preventing and apprehending undocumented noncitizens and smugglers of noncitizens at or near the borders by maintaining surveillance from covert positions to include using infrared scopes during night operations
  • Interpreting and following tracks, marks, and other physical evidence of illegal entry of persons or contraband
  • Performing farm checks, building checks, traffic checks, city patrols, and transportation checks
  • Patrolling the international boundary and coastal waterways using a variety of government assets such as vehicles, horses, vessels, watercraft, off-road vehicles, ATVs, snowmobiles, and motorcycles for the accomplishment of the USBP Mission.
  • Qualifications

    You qualify for the GL-5 grade level if you possess one of the following:

    Experience: One (1) year of general work experience that demonstrates the ability to take charge, make sound decisions, and maintain composure in stressful situations; to learn regulations, methods, and techniques through classroom training and/or on-the-job instruction; and the ability to gather concise information through questioning, observation, and examination of documents and records; OR

    Education Substitution: A bachelor's degree or successful completion of a full four-year course of study in any field leading to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; OR

    Combination of Experience and Education: A combination of general work experience AND successfully completed college education. This will be calculated using your resume and official or unofficial transcripts submitted with your application.

    You qualify for the GL-7 grade level if you possess one of the following:

    Experience: One year of specialized work experience that shows you have the skills necessary to:

  • Make sound judgments and decisions in the use of firearms.
  • Deal effectively with people in a courteous and tactful manner in connection with law enforcement matters.
  • Analyze information rapidly and make prompt decisions where you will be expected to make arrests after the completion of required training and apply these skills in a law enforcement capacity such as criminal code enforcement, determining violations of laws, correctional or rehabilitation work involving criminal offenders, security, military, etc.
  • The above experience will be applied in connection with the following: Make arrests and exercise sound judgment in the use of firearms; deal effectively with people in a courteous manner in connection with law enforcement matters; analyze information rapidly and make prompt decisions; or develop and maintain contact with a network of informants.

    Education Substitution for the GL-7 grade level: A bachelor's degree with superior academic achievement, which is based on (1) class standing, (2) grade-point average (i.e., GPA of 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0), or (3) honor society membership. Or will receive a bachelor's degree with Superior Academic Achievement. Or one full year of graduate-level education in a field of study related to law enforcement (e.g., criminal justice, homeland security, justice studies, law enforcement, courts and judicial systems, forensic technology, forensic psychology, or corrections and rehabilitation) from an accredited college or university; OR

    A Combination of Experience and Education: This will be calculated using your resume and official or unofficial transcripts submitted with your application.

    Other Requirements

    Citizenship: You must be a U.S. Citizen to apply for this position.

    Residency: You must have had primary U.S. residency (includes protectorates as declared under international law) for at least three of the last five years.

    Age Restriction: In accordance with Public Law 100-238, this position is covered under law enforcement retirement provisions. Candidates must be referred for selection to the Border Patrol Agent position before reaching their 40th birthday in accordance with Department of Homeland Security Directive 251-03. The age restriction may not apply if you are currently serving or have previously served in a federal civilian law enforcement (non-military) position covered by Title 5 U.S.C. 8336(c) or Title 5 U.S.C. 8412(d).

    Veterans’ Preference: You may also be eligible for an excepted service Veterans Recruitment Appointment (VRA). The age restriction does not apply if you are Veterans' Preference eligible.

    Formal Training: After you are hired, you will be detailed to the U.S. Border Patrol Academy in Artesia, New Mexico, for approximately six (6) months of intensive instruction in immigration and nationality laws, law enforcement and USBP-specific operations, driver training, physical techniques, firearms, and other courses. Border Patrol work requires the ability to speak and read Spanish, as well as English. Border Patrol Agents will be provided training to become proficient with the Spanish language at the Academy.

    SENIOR BIOANALYTICAL SCIENTIST

    Summary

    We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Sr. Bioanalytical Scientist with senior expertise in method development for ligand binding assays (LBAs). This role involves designing, developing new bioanalytical assays, optimization and testing LBA-based assays for RNA therapeutics and related novel modalities to support non-regulated PK, TK, and ADA with minimal guidance. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical proficiency, independent problem-solving skills, and a collaborative mindset. This position is onsite and lab-based, involves approximately 90% laboratory work and 10% office-based tasks. The candidate must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment that requires attention to detail and adaptability to changing priorities.

    Responsibilities

    • Method Development: Design and develop new assays from scratch; optimize ligand binding assays (e.g., MSD, ELISA) with a focus on sensitivity, specificity, linearity, reproducibility and robustness; independently troubleshoot assay performance issues and implement improvements; write detailed protocols of methods developed for sample analysis.
    • Data Analysis & Reporting: Document experimental design and execution in ELN; analyze experimental data using appropriate statistical tools; prepare PowerPoint presentations and summarize results in technical reports when needed; present findings to internal teams and external stakeholders.
    • Collaboration & Training: Work closely with cross-functional teams including pharmacology and medicinal chemistry; provide procedural training and mentorship to junior scientists; support colleagues on sample analysis as needed.

    Requirements

    • Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Biology, Analytical Chemistry, or a related field with a minimum of 2–5 years of bioanalytical experience as a post-doctoral fellow or scientist in biotech/pharma.
    • Proficiency in troubleshooting and optimizing bioanalytical methods; advanced knowledge and hands-on experience with ligand binding assay formats (e.g., ELISA, Solid).
    • Experience developing bioanalytical assays (e.g., ELISA, MSD) for quantification of antisense oligonucleotides or siRNA is a plus.
    • Experience with bioanalytical instruments (e.g., LC-MS) is a plus; familiarity with bioanalytical method validation guidance (FDA, EMA, ICH M10).
    • Experience with lab automation technologies; strong technical writing skills; proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously; effective communication skills for presentations and team collaboration.

    Role Summary

    Key Responsibilities (additional duties may be added as needed)

    Coaching & Customer Success

    • Conduct a minimum of two 30-minute coaching calls per client per month.
    • Support clients in implementing lead generation systems, time management, and business fundamentals aligned with their goals.
    • Review past coaching notes, track progress, and update action plans using Buffini’s CRM and Salesforce tools.
    • Integrate REALStrengths language and insights to support client development and self-awareness.
    • Maintain coaching records and communication documentation in accordance with department guidelines.
    • Deliver exceptional service that promotes client success, engagement, and retention.

    Internal Collaboration & Team Contribution

    • Provide short-term business support client coverage when fellow coaches are on leave.
    • Participate actively in coaching department initiatives, meetings, trainings, group discussions, and cross-functional collaboration.
    • Maintain accurate records of business activity, attend ongoing professional development, and contribute to team culture and innovation.

    Complimentary Coaching Calls & Client On-Boarding

    • Conduct complimentary coaching calls for prospective One2One Members.

    WHAT YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE

    The ideal candidate will be a Mechanical Designer with strong drafting skills utilizing SolidWorks. This position will work within the Engineering Department to create and modify drawings and is primarily responsible for the mechanical design of products within the Product Development team. Most of the project work will be updating and modifying existing products with a smaller amount focused on new products.

    Additionally, you will:

    • Creation of 2D drawings from 3D models or parts in SolidWorks using common drafting standards.
    • Update and modify 2D drawings based on changes required by engineering team.
    • Properly maintain drawing system integrity in product data management system.
    • Work well independently to complete groups of drawing projects with good documentation and organization.
    • Coordinate/collaborate with engineers to create new and/or modify existing technical drawings that communicate engineering ideas, designs, and information in support of engineering functions.

    Overview

    The City of Carlsbad is recruiting for an Associate Engineer that will be part of the Transportation and Drainage Engineering Division and a key member of the Transportation Department. This individual will be part of an engineering team that manages a variety of transportation and storm drain projects and will report to an Engineering Manager of the Transportation and Drainage Engineering Division.

    A successful applicant will possess a strong working knowledge of civil transportation and drainage engineering principles and practices to join the Transportation Department of the Public Works Branch. The Associate Engineer will perform professional engineering tasks that include contract administration, design and management of various transportation and drainage projects, review plans, specifications, and cost estimates, and conduct various studies to ensure compliance with applicable Federal, State, County, and local standards and regulations.

    This position will conduct and coordinate professional civil and transportation engineering work, both alone and under the general supervision of a Senior Engineer in the planning, design, and construction of transportation and drainage facilities associated with the city's CIP.

    This is an opportunity to work for a well-financed and professionally managed City and to help with the growth and maintenance of its transportation and drainage system assets. You will be working on interesting projects as the City begins to implement the new General Plan and the associated Mobility Element which will include the effects of the California Complete Streets Act of 2008. In addition, you will be working on projects that incorporate the requirements of the Statewide Construction General Permit and the most recent National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Permit and Trash Policies.

    Carlsbad - The Community: This nearly 40 square mile city is ideally situated in north coastal San Diego County with an approximate population of 115,000. The Branch includes a variety of Departments including Administration, Environmental Management, General Services, Utilities, and Transportation. More than 173 full-time staff support the Branch which has an annual budget of $90 million, along with a total Capital Improvement Program (CIP) appropriation of $260 million.

    The Department: The Transportation Department supports the planning, design, and construction and inspection of city and private development projects; keeps people and traffic moving; and fosters transportation and drainage infrastructure systems.

    The Division: The Transportation and Drainage Engineering Division designs transportation and storm drain system CIP projects, prepares master plans, conducts special studies and investigations, and provides as-needed engineering services to the transportation and drainage maintenance and operations divisions. For each project, a variety of services are provided including managing consultants that provide planning, engineering and environmental investigations resulting in the preparation of construction contract documents, construction engineering assistance and general project management.

    The division coordinates the preparation of the annual update to the city's CIP, manages the ongoing implementation of various financing districts and assists developers with the formation of additional financing districts and reimbursement agreements.

    The division is also the lead in the creation and maintenance of the city's asset inventory which includes: transportation and drainage assets. In addition to creating the inventory, staff in this area prepare and deliver mapping products and complete analysis of asset inventory data for various customers. This work also includes facilitating the utilization of the asset inventory data in coordination with the Business Systems and Geographic Information System divisions.

    Typical duties assigned to this position include, but are not limited to:

    • Maintain general knowledge of the City of Carlsbad engineering standards, transportation, storm drainage, water quality design, and construction criteria
    • Generate technical specifications, engineer’s estimates, special engineering studies, and other contract documents
    • Review and evaluate plans, specifications, and studies of consulting engineers and private developments for complex public projects for conformance with the City, Federal, State, and Regional regulations and codes
    • Interact and engage with the public, consultants, and engineers while implementing important capital improvement program projects
    • Coordinate the preparation and review of various work products such as preliminary and final plans, specification and cost estimates as well as the associated engineering, planning, and environmental technical studies for CIP projects
    • Prepare Requests for Proposals and/or Request for Qualifications for services such as design, surveying, and material and soil testing; and administers work of consultants effectively monitoring costs and deadlines
    • Verify and maintain appropriate records and files and performing a variety of computer and tracking support functions
    • Prepare and submit applications and secure permits for various projects and tasks including those required from
