Position Summary:

The Safe Dwelling Advocate performs functions relevant to advocating for services or providing direct services to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking, along with their families. The Safe Dwelling Advocate handles duties that maintain the safe dwelling. The Safe Dwelling Advocate provides crisis intervention, safety planning, skill development, and service linkage to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking with the goal to promote self-sufficiency. Provides services in a manner which is culturally competent and empowers clients by using clients’ strengths and informal support networks in service delivery.

Essential Job Functions:

Hotline:

· Shares on-call responsibilities; takes corrective action to provide crisis coverage, ensure HRHC hotline coverage requirements, incident notification, and debriefing. Responds to and effectively handles emergencies, which may require flexibility of both time and areas of assignment.

Safe Dwelling:

· Implements activities in accordance with OVS and OCFS regulations for a safe dwelling with guidance from the Program Supervisor and Divisional Director.

· Complies with Safe Dwelling regulations, standards, policies and procedures.

· Maintains safe dwelling intake folders on guests.

· Prepares Safe Dwelling for new guests, if needed, which may include washing of bedding, washing dishes, mopping floors, vacuuming, etc.

· Orders groceries on line, picks up and delivers to the safe Dwelling guests.

· Performs weekly inspection and room checks in the Safe dwelling. Checks and maintains safe dwelling emergency kits monthly.

· Participates in quarterly fire drills coordinated by the Assistant Supervisor at the safe dwelling.

· Checks Post Office box for guest mail and delivers to the Safe Dwelling.

Reporting and Documentation:

· Completes, maintains and updates all necessary written reports, case files, and summaries in a timely manner and in accordance with program and agency standards.

Domestic Violence Education:

· Provides educational and support intervention to clients, including crisis intervention, safety assessment and planning, and referral and linkage to other services as needed.

· Responsible for providing community education, prevention, and awareness of issues of domestic violence,

sexual assault, and stalking at outreach/tabling events coordinated with the Program Supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelors Degree and one (1) year experience or Associates Degree with two (2) years’ experience or HS Diploma and five (5) years’ experience with a domestic violence program, community based human services or related field required. Must have valid New York State driver’s license and access to reliable transportation. Criminal history clearance.  Advocates are required to complete an initial 30-hour Rape Crisis Certification training.  Advocates are required to complete 10 hours of continuing education credits annually specific to service provisions for survivors of domestic and/or sexual violence.

Salary:

$39,000 Annual / $18.75 hourly

The Family Advocate  is the first point of contact for victims of child sexual abuse, sexual assault, other crimes and exposure to violence, as well as for their non-offending caregivers. The Family Advocate helps the non-offending caregiver to identify and access services the family may need. The Family Advocate encourages the non-offending caregiver to participate in the investigation, prosecution, treatment and support services. The Family Advocate participates in the multidisciplinary team and provides ongoing follow-up support for the child and the non-offending caregiver.

Devereux Florida provides intervention services for families in crisis who are referred by the Department of Children and Families, to provide them with resources and assistance to prevent children from entering the foster care system. Our goal is to create communities without abuse, neglect or abandonment, while helping parents or caregivers who may otherwise have no support or guidance.
The Family Advocate is a field-based position that assists the Case Manager to implement Safety Services and Support Plans. It provides direct support and assistance to parents and their children in their homes or in community-based settings.
**Services include, but are not limited to:**
+ Immediate Family Engagement
+ 24/7 Crisis Response
+ Professional team approach to family preservation
+ Skills Training
+ Intensive Case Management
+ Hands-on assistance to help manage the danger threats in the home.

+ Transportation to appointments as appropriate
This position plays a critical role in ensuring that families have the resources they need to quickly stabilize and build into strong, healthy and safe households, where children can excel and grow into confident and productive individuals.
**Position Details:**
**Salary:** **_Starts at $17.50 - 19.95 / hr_** (rate is based on education and relevant experience). This is a position is eligible for $000 sign-on bonus.

**Qualifications**
**Education:**
+ High School Diploma or equivalent _required_
**Experience:**
+ 1+ year(s) working with at-risk children and families, child welfare, case management, social work, direct support, child care, schools or related _required_
**Other Requirements:**
+ Valid, unrestricted driver's license _required_
