Position Summary:
The Safe Dwelling Advocate performs functions relevant to advocating for services or providing direct services to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking, along with their families. The Safe Dwelling Advocate handles duties that maintain the safe dwelling. The Safe Dwelling Advocate provides crisis intervention, safety planning, skill development, and service linkage to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking with the goal to promote self-sufficiency. Provides services in a manner which is culturally competent and empowers clients by using clients’ strengths and informal support networks in service delivery.
Essential Job Functions:
Hotline:
· Shares on-call responsibilities; takes corrective action to provide crisis coverage, ensure HRHC hotline coverage requirements, incident notification, and debriefing. Responds to and effectively handles emergencies, which may require flexibility of both time and areas of assignment.
Safe Dwelling:
· Implements activities in accordance with OVS and OCFS regulations for a safe dwelling with guidance from the Program Supervisor and Divisional Director.
· Complies with Safe Dwelling regulations, standards, policies and procedures.
· Maintains safe dwelling intake folders on guests.
· Prepares Safe Dwelling for new guests, if needed, which may include washing of bedding, washing dishes, mopping floors, vacuuming, etc.
· Orders groceries on line, picks up and delivers to the safe Dwelling guests.
· Performs weekly inspection and room checks in the Safe dwelling. Checks and maintains safe dwelling emergency kits monthly.
· Participates in quarterly fire drills coordinated by the Assistant Supervisor at the safe dwelling.
· Checks Post Office box for guest mail and delivers to the Safe Dwelling.
Reporting and Documentation:
· Completes, maintains and updates all necessary written reports, case files, and summaries in a timely manner and in accordance with program and agency standards.
Domestic Violence Education:
· Provides educational and support intervention to clients, including crisis intervention, safety assessment and planning, and referral and linkage to other services as needed.
· Responsible for providing community education, prevention, and awareness of issues of domestic violence,
sexual assault, and stalking at outreach/tabling events coordinated with the Program Supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree and one (1) year experience or Associates Degree with two (2) years’ experience or HS Diploma and five (5) years’ experience with a domestic violence program, community based human services or related field required. Must have valid New York State driver’s license and access to reliable transportation. Criminal history clearance.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
· Advocates are required to complete an initial 30-hour Rape Crisis Certification training.
· Advocates are required to complete 10 hours of continuing education credits annually specific to service provisions for survivors of domestic and/or sexual violence.
Salary:
$39,000 Annual / $18.75 hourly

Advocate Job Responsibilities:

· Advocates on behalf of survivors with the court system, law enforcement organizations, medical community, and the community at large.
· Provides educational and support intervention to clients, including crisis intervention, safety assessment and planning, and referral and linkage to other services as needed.

Is sensitive to cultural differences and able to incorporate that understanding into service provision. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills. Effective oral, written, and public speaking communication skills, able to communicate in a courteous and professional manner. Ability to work independently and with flexibility in days and hours of work. Demonstrate initiative, sound judgment and an understanding of domestic violence and sexual assault issues.

Job Description
Hudson Garbage Service, a Waste Connections Company, is currently looking for a motivated ReUse Advocate to join the team at the Columbia County Transfer Station in St. Helens, Oregon .
Schedule is Tuesday - Saturday
Shift is 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Wage is $24.78/hour
Safety Sensitive Position: Yes
The purpose of the ReUse Advocate will be to assist Columbia County in their efforts to raise awareness for reuse options and to educate/inform the public of waste reduction options at the transfer station. This position requires extensive public interaction and the ability to articulate waste management best practices clearly and concisely.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist customers with unloading debris and direct traffic while evaluating reusable items arriving on the tip floor.
- Communicate with the scale house staff and loader operator regarding traffic direction and spotting reusable items.
- Weigh each pallet of reusable items or individual item (using forklift w/scale) before placing in the storage container.
- Organize reusable items based on type.
- Label reusable items according to date placed in the shipping container.
- Transport items back to the tip floor that have been in the container for the maximum amount of time allowed.
- Support the public recycle center by assisting and communicating with customers, ensure the drop off location is clean, organized, and the correct materials are being placed in the appropriate containers.
- Perform routine inspections and maintenance on vehicles and equipment such as checking fluids, tires, hydraulic lines, and safety devices.
- Ensure proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies.
- Promote continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
- Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Familiarity with the Columbia County region and recycling practices.
- Requires strong communication skills and exceptional customer service.
- Ability to read, write, comprehend and communicate in English. High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Ability to make judgement calls to maintain safety while assisting customers on the transfer station tip floor.
- Computer skills and data tracking knowledge required to input information into spreadsheet and update weekly.
- Prior knowledge of how-to safely and properly operate heavy equipment such as forklift, pallet jack and loader PREFERRED upon hire. Forklift and loader certification will be required for this position.
- Must adhere to all safety protocols at the transfer station.
- Recycling education, or experience working at a transfer station or in a recycle center is preferred.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT:
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to walk long distances and stand for the duration of an 8-hour shift.
- Ability to lift 25lb-boxes or other equipment using proper lifting techniques.
