Position: INTERN (Substance Abuse / Mental Health Counselor)
The Intern will have an opportunity to gain valuable, hands-on experience by working closely with experienced industry counseling professionals. In this role, the intern will work in our Outreach Outpatient program in Richmond Hill, NY. The Intern Counselor is responsible for learning the aspects of the delivery and implementation of long-term supervision, support and clinical services to a population of chemically dependent clients with co-occurring and mental health disorders.
What You Will Do:

Conduct assessments, intakes and participate in level of care determinations by gathering appropriate data, orienting client to his/her rights and responsibilities and program expectations.

Description
The Counseling Advisor is responsible for advising new, continuing, and returning students in support of the College's mission and strategic plan objectives. Working within a team environment, the Advisor is responsible for executing and facilitating program goals by advising/coaching a full caseload of students. The Advisor will deliver all required and optional services which are designed to increase student success, graduation, and career readiness under the direct supervision of the Director, Advisement and Retention.
Travel will be required, as this position will work on both the Gloucester and Cumberland Campuses.
Examples of Duties
- Develops and maintains a cohort of identified Degree and Academic Certification seeking students for individual and group advisement?
- Provides orientation and academic advisement to new, continuing, returning, and visiting students for appropriate course selection and case-management-style student services. Emphasis is placed on facilitating the success of academically at-risk students.
- Under the direction of Advisement leadership, coordinates and executes the New Student Orientation in partnership with Gloucester Advisement.
- Engage in initiatives that support the new RCSJ Advisement model, including but not limited to cross-campus staff meetings, system training, fostering relationships with divisions and deans, and keeping current with relevant updates and changes.
- Provides excellent customer service by assisting with walk-in/virtual registration, maintaining a regular calendar of advising appointments and support of college activities related to student success, retention, and transfer.
- Participates in orientation, registration, retention, and open house activities and is knowledgeable about college's programs, resources, course sequencing and course selection with the ability to interpret the degree evaluation results to assist student with creating their educational goals.
- Provides each cohort student intrusive case management throughout the academic year to review progress toward goals, to assess and review progress toward established goals, and provide advocacy for student success.
- Assists with planning, implementing, and conducting skills-development workshops deemed necessary for total student enrichment, based on students' needs.
- Assists Director to develop, measure effectiveness of, and modify intervention strategies and report on those activities.
- Makes student referrals to RCSJ and community resources and supportive services, such as, but not limited to cohort programs, Academic Support Center, Wellness Center, Career & Internship, Special Services, Rowan University Center, etc.
- Leverages technology to monitor the progress of assigned students, proactively identifying potential graduates, risks of probation or academic leave, and factors that may affect or improve academic success.
- Completes required paperwork, reports and assigned tasks in an accurate and timely manner.
- Ensures the integrity and confidentiality of academic records, maintaining compliance with FERPA, and other college policies, state, and federal regulations.

Therapist - Counseling Center - 60% Full-Time (21 hours per week)
Summary:
The Trauma Therapist position is 60% of a full-time position (21 hours per week) and is a hybrid position with 11 hours onsite and 10 hours remote. Onsite hours include 4 hours every Saturday and one shift from 12:00 to 8:00 during the week. This is an excellent position for clinicians in need of licensing hours and who wish to become experts in several evidence-based treatments for survivors of all ages of interpersonal violence.
The Safe Horizon Counseling Center (SHCC) is a New York State-licensed outpatient mental health clinic that specializes, exclusively, in the trauma-focused treatment of child and adult survivors of interpersonal violence and other forms of abuse. SHCC also functions as the mental health “hub” of Safe Horizon, the largest crime victim’s assistance agency in the country. Our main clinic is located at 41 Flatbush Avenue in Brooklyn, and we operate two satellites that are co-located at other Safe Horizon programs. Nearly half of SHCC’s clients are referred by one of Safe Horizon’s vast arrays of programs. The Trauma Therapist will receive paid training and supervision in a variety of evidence-based treatments for trauma survivors, and the client hours meet New York State’s experience requirements for LCSW licensure.
Responsibilities:
- Learn and integrate a trauma-informed, client-centered approach, using an anti-oppressive lens, into your work with clients.
- Demonstrates exceptional engagement skills and clinical expertise in the provision of trauma-focused mental health treatment to SHCC clients (at least 60% engagement rate after 6 months);
- Provides time-limited, evidence-based trauma-focused individual treatment to clients of all ages;
- Develops and maintains expertise in the clinic’s chosen methods of treatment including TF-CBT and Seeking Safety, as well as CPP, ARC, SPARCS, and CFTSI, as assigned;
- Monitors treatment fidelity following training in evidence-based treatments;
- Responds to the occasional client crisis, as necessary, with the support of the Clinical Director and/or Clinical Supervisor;
- Requests and participates in case conferences as necessary;
- Maintains a caseload of 16 clients at all times
- Maintains a productivity level of 12 billable services per week (totaling 564 billable visits per year)
- Participates in weekly supervision and treatment planning meetings;
- Maintains timely and accurate documentation of all case activities such that it is in “audit-ready” compliance with all Safe Horizon City, State, and Federal requirements;
- Performs other job duties as assigned
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Must be able to attend weekly meetings on Zoom every Wednesday from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm for training and group supervision.
- Must be able to work 4 hours onsite every Saturday indefinitely. While there is an option to transition to onsite hours from Saturday to a day Monday through Friday, this is based on vacancy and seniority.
- Candidates must have HIPAA-compliant remote work spaces and equipment to ensure client privacy.
- Expertise in delivering time-limited, evidence-based mental health treatment approaches that can be utilized with target client population;
- Strong interpersonal skills required and a deep understanding of and commitment to the mission of Safe Horizon and our clients.

Job Description
The RN Patient Counseling will be a resource and consultant to patients currently going through treatment. The RN will assess patient needs, provide education to the patient and family and will help coordinate treatment to help reduce obstacles for patients. Working closely with the entire fertility team, the RN will be the patients advocate, resource, educator, coordinator and support person with the main goal of facilitating the best and most timely care possible.
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
• Bachelor’s Degree in nursing
• Clinical nursing experience, fertility or specialty pharmacy experience preferred
• Current RN license in good standing
• Demonstrated time management skills; planning and prioritization skills; ability to multi-task and maintain prioritization of key projects and deadlines
• Demonstrated ability to be adaptable to changing work environments and responsibilities Fully competent in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint
• Be part of the call center team and coordinate, process, and set up orders in a timely manner.
• Provide education to patients about their medications, medication self-administration, and other services
• Answer questions about products/services in a compliant fashion, to patients seeking additional information and education.
• In compliance with accreditation requirements:-Provide Open The Box (OTB) counseling over the phone or in person-Prepare quarterly reports as assigned
• Provide prospective patients in the community (support groups), education and support execution of patient programs (Hosting, moderator and support) with defined frequency.
• Provide high-touch support and customer interactions developing relationships with returning clients and strong rapport on phone with new customers.
• Manage accounts and patient caseload in a stated geography, becoming a valued team partner with knowledge of local resources.
• Complete hands on patient care as needed; including giving injections
• Performs On-Call activities: such as mandatory on-call phone duty approximately one week every 40 to 60 days.
