This Food Service Worker position is located within the Nutrition & Food Service at the VA Medical Center in Lebanon, PA. Responsibilities include setting up and breaking down assigned stations with the correct supplies and food items; portioning food items into standard serving sizes using the proper utensils and specified dishware; selecting and placing correct items on patient trays; deciding what food items to serve for the most common diets; identifying obvious discrepancies between the prescribed diets and the food items designated by the menu; setting up dining room tables for service, placing food and beverages on tables, and replenishing items as necessary; delivering meal trays to the patients' bedsides, reporting the patients' comments and complaints to the supervisor or dietitian; providing assistance to cooks in the food preparation area, such as weighing, measuring, and assembling ingredients according to standardized recipes; preparing fresh fruit/cold salads/dressings/sandwich fillings and cold sandwiches and simple cold desserts; reading and interpreting regular or modified menus, individual diet cards, tray tickets or patient selections; performing heavy-duty cleaning tasks throughout the food service and related areas; and performing other duties as assigned.

Work Schedule: 6:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m., 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., 11:00 a.m. - 7:30 p.m. Shifts include every other weekend and some holidays.

Performs work requiring light to moderate physical. May be required to perform heavy work, such as scouring and scrubbing large size cooking utensils and pushing heavy carts and trucks in unloading, storing, and delivering supplies. Lancaster Behavioral Health Hospital (LBHH) is a 126-bed, inpatient psychiatric hospital and start-up joint venture between Lancaster General Health/Penn Medicine and Universal Health Services. In addition to a general adult unit and dedicated adolescent unit, the facility offers services for treating those with co-occurring disorders on the psychiatric-medical unit, an intensive adult unit to care for those with severe conditions, as well as a women's trauma unit.
