Principal Duties And Responsibilities

Strategic Planning, Integrated Marketing and Execution

  • Develop and execute integrated marketing strategies that strengthen brand equity and deliver measurable business growth in the U.S. market.
  • Own the U.S. brand architecture, including portfolio management, consumer segmentation, and SKU optimization.
  • Leverage knowledge of the U.S. alcohol industry, including regulatory environments, consumer behavior, and channel dynamics, to inform decision-making.
  • Set clear marketing objectives and KPIs, and track performance to ensure targets are met.
  • Oversee media planning and buying with a focus on ROI and brand building.
  • Lead fully integrated campaigns across all that span digital, experiential, PR, retail, and on-/off-premise.
  • Strengthen the brand’s digital and social presence to reach and resonate with new, diverse consumer segments.

Collaboration and Global HQ Alignment

  • Serve as a key liaison between the U.S. team and European global headquarters, ensuring brand initiatives are locally resonant while aligned with global priorities.

Commercial Partnership

  • Partner with the Sales function to ensure brand and marketing strategies are effectively translated into commercial success.

We invite candidates who have been responsible for the D2C growth of similar companies at least once, if not multiple times before.

You will have expertise in the D2C top of online sales funnel, customer / client acquisition strategies and tactics that produced exponential growth from performance media, paid search, direct response advertising and marketing, email, with video, short, long form sales copy, storytelling, benefit selling, and testimonials that convert to excellent ROI and ROAS, with the support of sales development representatives.

While affiliates, partnerships, and word of mouth referrals are still important, using direct-to-customer tactics, from a small yet brilliant internal marketing and sales team, through your hands-on leadership, both the brand awareness will be more sustainably developed in a compliant way, in addition to directly sourced leads who become satisfied clients.

Principal Duties And Responsibilities

Strategic Planning, Integrated Marketing and Execution

  • Develop and execute integrated marketing strategies that strengthen brand equity and deliver measurable business growth in the U.S. market.
  • Own the U.S. brand architecture, including portfolio management, consumer segmentation, and SKU optimization.
  • Leverage knowledge of the U.S. alcohol industry, including regulatory environments, consumer behavior, and channel dynamics, to inform decision-making.
  • Set clear marketing objectives and KPIs, and track performance to ensure targets are met.
  • Oversee media planning and buying with a focus on ROI and brand building.
  • Lead fully integrated campaigns across all that span digital, experiential, PR, retail, and on-/off-premise.
  • Strengthen the brand’s digital and social presence to reach and resonate with new, diverse consumer segments.
  • Oversee media planning and buying with a focus on ROI, consumer engagement, and long-term brand equity.

Collaboration and Global HQ Alignment

  • Serve as a key liaison between the U.S. team and European global headquarters, ensuring brand initiatives are locally resonant while aligned with global priorities.
  • Navigate a matrixed organization with skill and diplomacy, fostering alignment across cultures and time zones.

Commercial Partnership

  • Partner with the Sales function to ensure brand and marketing strategies are effectively translated into commercial success.
  • Lead the development and execution of retail and on-/off-premise programs that drive shopper conversion at the point of sale.

Budget Management

  • Own and manage the U.S. marketing budget with a high level of financial discipline, ensuring strategic allocation of resources, proactive ROI analysis, and alignment of spend with key business objectives.
  • Partner with Finance to forecast, track, and optimize marketing investments that drive results and brand equity.

Leadership

  • Build, lead, and inspire a high-performing, cross-functional marketing team, cultivating a collaborative, inclusive culture rooted in accountability and creativity.
  • Attract, retain, and develop top marketing talent through clear direction, ongoing mentorship, and meaningful growth opportunities.
  • Foster an agile, resilient team environment that thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic market landscape.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business, or related field, MBA preferred
  • 15+ years of progressive marketing experience, with a minimum of 5 years in a senior leadership role.
  • Knowledge of Distilled Spirits Counsel of the US (“DISCUS”) and legal regulations
  • Experience in consumer-packaged goods (CPG), with preference for spirits, wine, or luxury lifestyle brands.
  • Practice in managing DTC, e-commerce, or digital innovation channels.
  • Demonstrated success leading brand turnaround or rejuvenation initiatives.
  • Experience working in or closely with global organizations

About the Role

This is an opportunity for a seasoned operator to step into the CEO role of a lean, high-margin SaaS company. The incoming executive will take full ownership of business performance - setting strategy, building out the team, owning the P&L, and optimizing for long-term growth and profitability. Responsibilities

Position Overview

Atlas Obscura is seeking a visionary Chief Marketing and Strategy Officer to lead our marketing functions while serving as a key strategic advisor to the CEO and leadership team. This dual-role position combines hands-on marketing leadership with high-level strategic planning to drive growth, optimize revenue streams, and position Atlas Obscura for continued expansion in the travel community space.

Key Responsibilities Marketing Leadership
  • Develop and execute comprehensive go-to-market strategies across all Atlas Obscura offerings
  • As Atlas Obscura grows, be prepared to step into broader performance marketing leadership
  • Lead brand positioning and messaging strategy for advertising campaigns and overall brand identity
  • Orchestrate the intersection of product marketing, ad sales marketing, and brand marketing to eliminate redundancies and maximize impact
  • Optimize marketing function performance through strategic resource allocation and process improvement
  • Drive consumer revenue growth through subscription program design and evaluation, subscription optimization, membership community development, and partnership with the chief product and technology officer on product feature unlock evaluations
  • Build and scale membership-based community initiatives that enhance user engagement and retention in partnership with the chief community officer
Strategic Planning & Business Development
  • Partner directly with the CEO on company-wide strategic initiatives and long-term planning
  • Collaborate with the full leadership team to identify and evaluate new market opportunities, including international partnerships, and assist the CEO in setting up partnerships in consistent ways across the business.
  • Assist the CEO in business positioning with investors and corporate trajectory planning
  • Lead strategic assessment of potential partnerships within the travel ecosystem and create framework for partnerships more broadly with the CEO and leadership team.
  • Assess partnership opportunities for strategic fit, revenue potential, and brand alignment
  • Lead cross-functional collaboration to ensure successful partnership integration and execution
  • Conduct thorough analysis of effort-to-revenue ratios, guiding decisions between low-lift/high-lift initiatives
  • Evaluate and guide blended business development and advertising opportunities
  • Spearhead direct outreach efforts and partner collaboration initiatives alongside company leaders
  • Lead business model development of new creator initiatives in partnership with the CEO and other members of senior leadership team
Required Qualifications Marketing Expertise
  • 10+ years of progressive marketing leadership experience, preferably in consumer-facing companies
  • Proven track record in developing successful go-to-market strategies, brand positioning, and performance marketing
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex marketing functions with multiple touchpoints (product marketing, ad sales, brand marketing)
