South Portland Schools are seeking Educational Technicians to support students with Special Education.
- Resource Classrooms typically serve students with primarily academic and some social, emotional, and behavioral needs. Classrooms are supported by service providers as needed.
- Composite Classrooms typically serve students who have more disability related needs (academic, social, attentional, behavioral, and developmental). Composite classrooms are supported by service providers and a BCBA.
- Functional Life Skills Classrooms serve students who often have communication, academic, behavioral, sometimes physical, and often require support with activities of daily living. Classrooms are supported by a full service provider team, including a BCBA, Speech/Language Pathologist, and Occupational Therapist.
- Social, Emotional, and Behavioral Classrooms serve students who require support with emotional and behavioral regulation, as well as academic and social needs at times. Classrooms are supported by a full service provider team, including a Consulting Psychologist/BCBA, and Social Worker.
Candidates should demonstrate effective communication skills, a strong desire to be part of a supportive and dynamic team, and be flexible.
Ed tech III certification preferred and CHRC authorization is required.

Job Summary: Provide instructional and behavioral support to students under the supervision of a certified teacher. This role involves assisting with classroom management, implementing educational plans, and supporting students with individualized needs in various educational settings.
Qualifications:
- Ed Tech Level 1
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Ed Tech Level 2
- Completion of at least 2 years of post-secondary education or a combination equivalent to 60 hours of approved study in an educationally related field.
- Ed Tech Level 3 (Preferred)
- Completion of at least 3 years of post-secondary education or a combination equivalent to 90 hours of approved study in an educationally related field.
- Have Knowledge of the learning process, primarily in math and reading instruction.
- Maine Criminal History Record Check (CHRC) required.
- Educational Technician Certification
- Strong Communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with teachers and staff
- Willingness to complete any required training or certification programs
- Must be able to work with diverse learners, including students with special needs and juggle multiple tasks.
- Ability to help maintain a positive and structured learning environment.

- Supervise, plan for, and instruct small groups of students in settings removed from the classroom.
- Support students with special needs by following individualized education plans (IEPs) or behavioral plans.

- Supervise students in various settings, including classrooms, hallways, recess, and lunch areas.
- Maintain confidentiality of student records and information.

- Requires patience, emotional resilience, and adaptability to support students with diverse learning and behavioral challenges.
