**Responsibilities:**
+ Collaborate with teachers and support staff to create an inclusive and welcoming classroom environment.
+ Provide one-on-one or small group support to students with diverse learning needs within the classroom.
+ Model the ideas that embrace diversity and inclusivity while promoting social and emotional development by encouraging positive peer interactions.
A full-time paraeducator may also be referred to as paraprofessional, 1:1 aide, education technician, teacher aide, instructional assistant, classroom assistant, education assistant, learning support assistant, and teaching assistant.

Detailed Position Information
The Special Education department at the University of Alabama invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Special Education with a start date of August 16, 2026. This is a nine-month, tenure-earning position. The successful applicant will work closely with the online Ed.D. and Ed.S. programs. While applicants with expertise in the area of Early Intervention/Early Childhood Special Education are preferred, we encourage applicants from all areas of Special Education.
Responsibilities:
Teach coursework in the Department of Special Education with a course load of 2 courses per fall and spring semester. Course reductions are possible for service responsibilities related to practicum/internship supervision and program coordination-related responsibilities as needed.
Publish and disseminate high quality, peer-reviewed research
Seek and obtain external funding
Fulfill service roles in the program, department, and college
Provide academic advisement to students in the department.
Minimum Qualifications
Earned doctorate degree in Special Education or related discipline by August 2026
Certification (or certification eligible) in special education in Alabama (preferred)
Demonstrated evidence of willingness and/or experience (preferred) of effective teaching experience at the college level
Demonstrated evidence of willingness and/or experience (preferred) to seek and obtain external funding
Demonstrated evidence of published research in scholarly, high quality peer-reviewed journals
Demonstrated evidence of willingness and/or experience (preferred) supporting underserved and underrepresented populations
Demonstrated evidence of practical experience working with individuals with disabilities and their families
Demonstrated evidence of willingness and/or experience (preferred) to fulfilling accreditation and program assessment requirements
Demonstrated evidence of willingness and/or experience (preferred) to teach face to face as well as online
Demonstrated evidence of willingness and/or experience (preferred) to advise graduate students
