Essential Functions
1. Leads, develops, conducts and prepares for historic education programs and events that include living history and heritage skills for adults, students, families and visitors.
2. Oversees scheduling of all school tours, public tours, classes and workshops for Nash Farm.
3. Develops educational and interpretive guidelines, which illustrate farm life on the Grapevine Prairie circa 1900.
4. Provides positive customer service and hospitality to all visitors daily.
5. Keeps visitation records of all tours and visitation; keeps record of group tour calendar.
6. Trains, directs, schedules, and mentors volunteers.
7. Ensures weekly and monthly reports are completed in a timely manner; ensures deposits are made as required.
8. Ensures facility is secure and maintained before, during, and following events, when applicable.
9. Prepares materials for all educations programs.
10. Schedules the third-grade school tour program, sponsored by the Grapevine Colleyville Independent School District, each October and April. This includes the recruitment each year of new volunteers, the training of volunteers, materials preparation, scheduling the schools as well as the volunteer docents, and all communications regarding this program. This also includes scheduling school districts other than GCISD as well.
11. May perform a variety of physical duties including, but not limited to, moving tables and chairs, mopping and cleaning, climbing ladders, gardening using hand tools and implements, working in hot and cold outdoor conditions while wearing 19th century period appropriate clothing.
12. Assists manager with supervision, directing and scheduling full time and part time staff.
13. Assists historic programs staff outside of Nash Farm as needed.
14. Performs related duties as directed when such duties are a logical and appropriate assignment to the position.
15. Regular and timely attendance is required for this position.
16. Interact professionally and respectfully with the public, coworkers and others in the course of daily work.
17. Works irregular hours and schedules as needed for special events and programs.
Required Skills
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
• Knowledge of farm equipment.
• Knowledge of Texas plants, ecosystems and farming practices.
• Knowledge of museum and historic site operations (particularly historic houses and living history museums).
• Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Ability to deal with others in a tactful clear and concise manner.
• Flexibility to work weekends, extended and irregular hours.
• Requires a flexible attitude, experience working with volunteers and the general public.
• Excellent communication, planning and organizational skills.
• Ability to work well with people - frequent contact with the public.
• Working knowledge of basic office equipment, business procedures and software programs including Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Ability to do considerable walking, standing, sitting, and bending. May lift or carry equipment or material up to 35 pounds.
• Ability to drive a pickup truck.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Requires a minimum of two (2) years of college credit plus two (2) years of experience in heritage facility / historic site or museum management or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
Must have experience directing volunteers.
Knowledge of 19th century skills, trades and farm operations preferred.
Must have or obtain a Tarrant County food handlers permit.
Must pass a Federal/National criminal background check. Must have a valid Texas driver's license with an acceptable driving record as defined by City policy.
Must pass a pre-employment basic physical, drug screen, and functional assessment screening (Level 2).
