Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and refine age-appropriate, play-based curriculum frameworks that align with best practices in early childhood education and developmental milestones.
- Create engaging lesson plans, learning activities, and thematic units for various age groups.
- Select and adapt educational materials and resources to support curriculum goals.
- Observe and assess children's progress, providing feedback and recommendations for individual learning paths.
- Train and mentor teaching staff on curriculum implementation, pedagogical approaches, and classroom management.
- Conduct professional development sessions for staff on topics related to early childhood education and curriculum.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of the curriculum and make necessary revisions based on child development research and observed outcomes.
- Collaborate with parents and families to support children's learning and development at home.
- Ensure compliance with all state and local regulations and licensing requirements for childcare facilities.
- Maintain a safe, healthy, and stimulating learning environment for all children.
- Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience working directly with young children in an early learning setting.
- Demonstrated experience in curriculum development and implementation for early childhood programs.
- In-depth knowledge of child development theories and practices (e.g., Piaget, Vygotsky, Montessori).
- Familiarity with national and state early learning standards and guidelines.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Creative and innovative thinking applied to educational programming.
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, parents, and community partners.
- Passion for fostering a love of learning in young children.
- CPR and First Aid certification required.

The MDE COMPASS American Indian Education Instruction Specialist (AIEIS) will serve as an Indigenous Education Lead on the COMPASS team and ensure the needs of Indigenous students are a central part of the division work and that evidence based practices are used as the team provides guidance and support to districts charter school and Tribally controlled schools. The AIEIS will lead the programmatic work of a team of COMPASS Regional Equitable Access Specialists with a specific focus on increasing access to high quality tier one instruction for Indigenous students.

Five (5) years of professional experience that includes:
+ Strong partnerships and collaboration with Indigenous communities in the United States.
+ Working at a systems level in education to help ensure that Indigenous students have access to and receive culturally responsive and culturally responsible Tier 1 education.
+ Cultural knowledge of and practice within Indigenous cultures especially those which exist on Minnesota land.
+ Teaching K-12 and experience planning, developing, and conducting professional development.
+ Understand how to work effectively through trauma-informed activities and responses from Indigenous communities and families.
+ Extensive understanding to support policies for Indian Education for All.
A bachelor's or master's degree will count for 1 year of experience.
**Preferred Qualifications**
+ Advanced degree in Indigenous cultures in the United States, Education or a related field
+ Administrative License
