• Participate in planning curriculum, teaching schedule and course outline; participate in evaluation and revision of instruction and nursing practices.

AALRR offers a unique opportunity to support the educational institutions guiding the next generation of Californians to reach their intellectual and creative potential. We are seeking a senior associate attorney for the Riverside office of our Southern California Education Law Practice Group to provide advice and counsel to public and private K-12 schools, community college districts, and related entities. Ideally, the candidate will have experience advising public entities on a range of issues, including governance, labor and employment, and will have conducted investigations involving alleged discrimination, harassment, or other misconduct.
Key Responsibilities
- Advise district/school administrators on all aspects of personnel management, including employee discipline, dismissal, and release
- Guide clients in responding to California Public Records Act requests, complying with the Brown Act, and avoiding and addressing conflicts of interest
- Represent local educational agencies in administrative hearings
- Counsel management on questions involving employee leaves of absence and disability accommodations
- Assist Title IX and Uniform Complaint Officers with administering the complaint process in accordance with law and policy
- Investigate and/or serve as a decision-maker in Title IX cases and other matters involving students and employees
- Provide relevant trainings for clients on topics of interest and participate in internal and external conferences and marketing opportunities
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school
- Admission to the State Bar of California and in good standing
- 4+ years of labor and/or employment law experience, preferably for educational or other public entities
- Strong legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills
- Litigation and/or administrative hearing experience is a plus
- Investigations and Title IX experience is a plus
- Ability to build and maintain effective client relationships
- Proven experience managing multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Salary
The base salary range for this role is $135,000 - $160,000 and represents the firm’s good faith minimum and maximum range for this role at the time of posting. The actual compensation offered to a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s education, skills, and experience. The Firm offers a bonus program as well as a generous employee benefits package including medical, dental, vision, 401(k) matching, and Firm profit-sharing contribution.

HICAP is part of a private, nonprofit corporation, called the Council on Aging - Southern California (COASC), serving older adults and individuals with disabilities since 1973. The mission of COASC is to promote the independence, health, and dignity of older adults through compassion, education, and advocacy.
HICAP is a program that benefits older adults and persons with disabilities. The goal of this program is to provide objective counseling, advocacy, and assistance with Medicare, health insurance, and related health coverage plans for Medicare beneficiaries, and to educate the public on Medicare and health insurance issues.
PURPOSE OF WORK: To assist the HICAP Education & Outreach Coordinator in all activities related to HICAP Medicare education and outreach.
RESPONSIBLE FOR: Educating Medicare beneficiaries, caregivers and professionals about Medicare benefits and rights. Assisting Medicare beneficiaries with issues or problems related to their Medicare coverage.
JOB FUNCTIONS (Including but not limited to):
- Successfully complete HICAP Counselor training.
- Client case management, telephone counseling as assigned.
- Complete all SHARP documentation and submit required records when due.
- Develop and maintain partnerships with organizations serving Inland Empire Seniors and persons with disabilities.
- Develop new strategies to reach Medicare beneficiaries.
- Collaborate with HICAP Volunteers and community partner organization leaders.
- Conduct Community Outreach related to Medicare and Low Income Assistance Programs.
- Submit all required documentation to HICAP Education & Outreach Coordinator.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor. May be required to flex schedule for week-end or after hour assignments/presentations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate Degree in Human Services, Social Science, Gerontology, Management or related field. Relevant experience will be considered in lieu of degree.
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- Proactive, self-starter capable of working with minimal supervision.
- Ability to lead individual and team projects.
- Expertise with public speaking.
- Ability to speak Spanish a plus.
- Successful completion of HICAP Volunteer Counselor training.
- Willingness to learn about Medicare, Medicare HMOs, Medigap and other related insurance issues.
- Ability to maintain objectivity and patience in documentation, discussing and reporting cases.
- Well organized with the ability to multi-task.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Outlook, Publisher and Internet Search Engines.
- Ability to work effectively with people in a variety of situations.
- Valid California driver’s license, proof of insurance and reliable transportation.
- Proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
- Submit to and successfully complete a Live Scan fingerprinting background check.
