QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM - Current Driver Education Instructor Certification. A minimum of 24 hours per month of Behind the Wheel instruction is required to maintain a Driver Ed Instructor Assignment. Must be willing to work varied weekday afternoons and weekends. Employees may be re-assigned at the discretion of the Driver Education Coordinator.
PREFERRED - Bachelor's degree from accredited university. Valid NC teaching certificate with required endorsements or required training for subject and level assigned.
REPORTS TO: Drivers Education Coordinator
JOB GOAL: Cumberland County School Driver Education instructor will be
responsible for creation of a safe, positive, learner-centered learning environment while offering thorough instruction aligned with the NCDPI Driver Education Standards and Department of Motor Vehicle expectations. For the purpose of developing students' driving skills and knowledge of driving responsibilities; addressing students' specific needs; and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, and activities.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Instructs students (e.g. car control, defensive driving strategies, handling emergencies,
driving in adverse conditions, auto safety, etc.) for the purpose of developing driving skills
and knowledge pertaining to rules of the road.
Organizes lessons and prepares to conduct classroom instruction.
Maintains a learning environment and management of a class.
Manages student behavior for the purpose of providing a safe and an optimal learning
environment.
Participates in a variety of trainings, meetings, and seminars for the purpose of conveying
and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
Collaborates with a variety of parties (e.g. with school personnel, parents, various community agencies, etc.) for the purpose of improving the quality of student outcomes, developing solutions and planning curriculum.
Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
Administers driver examination after students complete all required lessons.
Provides required classroom instruction to operate a class C motor vehicle, maintains student records and issues documentation according to the NC DPI and/or DMV Driver Education Rules.
Oversees driver education automobiles for the purpose of ensuring vehicles are maintained in appropriate order and compliant with established rules and regulations.
Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress for the purpose of supporting teacher's expectations, developing methods for improvement and/or reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment.
Serves as team player and role model for other employees in the organization; demonstrates a commitment to continuous quality improvement; supports and exhibits organizational core values of caring, respect, integrity, responsibility, high expectations, being customer driven, and valuing fairness.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Strength: Sedentary/Medium - Exert force 10-25 lbs., frequently; and up to 10 lbs., constantly; or a negligible amount of force to frequently lift, carry, push, pull or move objects.
Frequent sitting, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, carrying, reaching, handling, and repetitive fine motor activities. Hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone. Vision: Frequent near acuity and occasional far acuity. Mobility to work in a typical office setting and use standard office equipment. Vision to read printed materials, a VDT screen, or other monitoring devices.
