**Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health New York** provides programs and services for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and dual diagnoses. Located at our Day Academy in Highland, NY, this position develops and revises physical educational curriculum to meet the physical, emotional, creative, and educational needs of assigned students by preparing course outlines and lesson plans as required by guideline policies. The PE Teacher will:
+ Evaluate students' level of proficiency to prescribe suitable programming and evaluate their progress in meeting educational and social goals by testing, observation, behavior rating scales and other means as appropriate.
+ Responsible for preparing Individual Education Plans for each student in physical education, involving an evaluation of each child's total program and preparation of annual goals for each child, and evaluation and revision throughout the year according to the student's progress, as well as meeting with parents /agencies during parent-teacher conferences as assigned.
+ Establish a safe environment conducive to maximum academic and social learning by maintaining order and guiding students to socially appropriate behavior.
+ Supervises students during school-related activities (class trips, extracurricular activities, meals, etc.) as assigned.

**Qualifications**
**EDUCATION:** Bachelor's Degree and New York State Certification in Physical Education, K-12.
**EXPERIENCE:** Two years experience working with mentally and/or emotionally handicapped individuals is preferred.
**PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:** Free of dependency and abuse of illegal or illicit drugs, alcohol, inhalants or otherchemical or controlled substances. Significant, prolonged, and frequent amounts of walking, standing, sitting, stooping, bending, and lifting of 70 lbs. or more. **Job Duties**
