Now Hiring: Food Service / Youth Care Worker

Location: El Monte, CA 91731

We are currently seeking a Food Services/Youth Care Worker to join our residential team. The Food Services/Youth Care Worker will be responsible for assisting in following the posted menus, using the correct food, quantity, and recipes to prepare the meal(s), maintain all safety standards, food handling health standards, and all local, county, and state health requirements. Other duties include but are not limited to:

  • Ensure cultural/religious appropriateness of menu items.
  • All meals must be fully prepared ready for serving at specific mealtimes.
  • Ensure that adequate amounts of food are properly and consistently prepared.
  • Assist with proper and routine maintenance of equipment.
  • Knowledge of all kitchen equipment will be necessary to properly disassemble, clean, and reassemble.
  • Wash all dishes, trays, utensils, glasses, pots, and pans will be responsibility of all food service personnel.
  • Document all meal counts. They must be accurate and reconciled with the edit check; collaborate with the Direct Care Supervisor to ensure that all residents and staff receive a meal.
  • Other documentation required: daily production menu, time allocation sheets, temperature log, and others as assigned.
  • Prevent accidents by focusing on details of the job; report any unsafe act of any safety violation to your Kitchen Supervisor; wear safety gloves when using/cleaning the meat slicer and/or while using a knife to cut any food.
  • Maintain the food service areas in a manner that will receive the highest grade or points from any inspecting agency.
  • Consult with Kitchen Supervisor about the end of the month inventory preparations.
  • Account for all products. It is critical to meeting the menu invoices. Keep copies of all invoices.
  • Drive a vehicle when necessary.
  • As needed, and at the discretion of Trinity Youth Services, this position can be assigned as a Rover/Youth Care Worker position within the ORR program.

Skills/Requirements:

  • A High school diploma or GED required.
  • Must meet State of California Health Standards for Food Handlers.
  • Maintain a current county food handler’s certificate and successfully complete an HACCP course.
  • Must have three years or more of extensive food service experience/training.
  • Meet State of California health standards for food handlers, maintain a current county food handlers’ certificate.
  • This position is a hands-on position and requires working knowledge of kitchen appliances.
  • Should have an interest in working directly with youth in accordance with the general requirements as established in the California Administrative Code, Title 22.
  • Must communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing in English.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older and able to pass a physical examination; drug clearance; criminal background check and Child Abuse Index check.
  • Must possess a valid California driver’s license with clean DMV history and the ability to safely operate a motor vehicle and be insurable by Trinity’s insurance carrier.
  • Bilingual preferred (Spanish).

Pay rate: $18.00 per hour.

Schedule: Sunday from 6:30am-7:00pm and Monday 5:30am-2:00pm Tuesday 9:30am-7:00pm Wednesday from 5:30am-2:00pm.

  • Assists the FNS Director in planning, directing, and supervising all FNS functions and partners with the exception of Director of FNS, Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN), and Nutrition and Dietetics Technician, Registered (NDTR).
  • Works with the Director of FNS, RDN, NDTR, Regional Dietitian, and Administrator and follows recommendations made.
  • Has a thorough understanding of all regulations (local, state, and federal) which affect FNS including, but not limited to, patient care, sanitation, labor, fire, safety, and disaster and ensures continued compliance to these regulations.
  • Assists in making food and supply purchases and for maintaining expense records.

Experience:

Food Services Manager

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Food Service Management, Nutrition, Hospitality, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in food service management, preferably within a healthcare or institutional setting.
  • Strong knowledge of food safety regulations and nutritional standards applicable to healthcare environments.
  • Proven leadership skills with experience managing and developing a diverse team.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving abilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certified Dietary Manager (CDM) or Certified Food Protection Professional (CFPP) credential.
  • Experience with electronic food service management systems and inventory software.
  • Familiarity with healthcare accreditation standards such as The Joint Commission or similar bodies.
  • Advanced knowledge of specialized diets and therapeutic nutrition.
  • Experience in budget management and cost control within a healthcare food service context.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan, organize, and supervise all food service operations within the healthcare facility, including meal preparation, delivery, and sanitation.
  • Develop and implement menus that meet nutritional guidelines and accommodate special dietary requirements of patients and staff.
  • Manage, train, and evaluate food service personnel to ensure high performance and adherence to safety and hygiene standards.
  • Monitor inventory levels, order supplies, and maintain relationships with vendors to ensure timely procurement of quality ingredients and equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, and regulatory standards, including food safety protocols and healthcare facility policies.
  • Prepare and manage budgets, control costs, and analyze financial reports to maintain operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to align food service practices with patient care plans and nutritional goals.
  • Address and resolve any food service-related issues or complaints promptly to maintain high customer satisfaction.
