What You’ll Do as a Civil Engineering Technician
- Assist in the design and preparation of engineering drawings, plans, and specifications for energy-related projects, including solar farms, wind farms, hydroelectric plants, oil and gas pipelines, electric transmission lines and other renewable and traditional energy systems.
- Partner with civil engineers and multidisciplinary teams to analyze data, perform engineering calculations, and develop models that support design decisions and project evaluations.
- Assist in environmental impact assessments and permit applications to ensure compliance with regulations and environmental standards.
- Leverage CAD and/or MicroStation software to develop, refine, and update detailed engineering drawings and plans with precision and accuracy.
- Perform comprehensive civil site design, including site layout and development, infrastructure evaluation, environmental considerations, grading and drainage design, and preparation of Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP).
- Execute routine engineering design activities under the direction of project engineers, ensuring accuracy and alignment with overall project objectives.
- Efficiently complete assignments on time and as required by the Project Manager or Engineer, coordinating your tasks as needed.

About the Role
Join one of the most diverse and innovative engineering design teams with multiple specialties within the transportation sector. The Port Authority's airports, ports, ferries, tunnels, bridges, bus terminals and rail transportation systems are important transportation links in the region. The Civil & Environmental Engineering unit within the Engineering/Architecture Design Division serves a unique role within the Port Authority by providing engineering planning and design services throughout the Agency with close coordination with external stakeholders including Federal, State and local transportation and regulatory agencies.
The Senior Civil Engineer will be responsible for providing Engineering design services for complex projects. Technical areas include one or more of the following civil subsets: highway/roadway design, site design, hydraulic modeling, stormwater management, utilities, airside design, passenger rail or freight rail design. The Senior Civil Engineer will prepare reports, design documents and drawings in AutoCAD. The Senior Civil Engineer will serve as technical lead on assigned projects.
The successful candidate will apply working knowledge of AASHTO, NJDEP/NYDEC stormwater, AREMA, FAA and/or similar standards or guidelines.
Responsibilities
+ Produce quality design services conforming to applicable design standards, guidelines and codes.
+ Prepare contract documents consisting of drawings, technical specifications and construction cost estimates. Produce biddable and constructible contract drawings meeting the scope.
+ Prepare the civil engineering scope of work and budget for projects or studies.
+ Provide guidance and direction to junior staff in engineering design approach and civil infrastructure.
+ Perform site inspections at the Agency's facilities.
+ Prepare RFP scope of work and independent staff cost estimate for professional engineering services to be performed by a Consultant.
+ Audit consultant engineering studies, designs and contract documents for construction projects.
Minimum Qualifications
+ Licensed as a Professional Engineer in the State of New York or State of New Jersey.
+ Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited engineering college or university.
+ Minimum of eight (8) years of professional engineering experience in design for civil infrastructure. including any of the following: airfields, stormwater and sanitary sewer collection systems, water distribution systems, roadway design, pavements, or trackwork
+ Working knowledge in Civil 3D software application

**The Opportunity**
Application of responsibilities to site development and transportation projects involving a wide range of site/civil design for roadways, railways, airports, data centers, industrial facilities and parks/open space.
+ Use Civil 3D or MicroStation software to layout roads, multi-use paths, flood barriers, drainage systems and utility systems as well as site grading and earthwork designs
+ Use Hydraulic modeling tools such as Autodesk Storm and Sanitary, InfoWorks, and PCSWMM to analyze and design stormwater and flood protection systems
+ Perform data collection, research, and apply codes, specifications and standards for design of the above elements
+ Coordinate with other disciplines to apply skills in delivering sustainable outcomes
+ Apply understanding of all phases of the planning, design and construction process
+ Research requirements of regulatory environment for gaining approval at different stages of project delivery
+ Engage with project stakeholders and clients to develop designs that meet needs and concerns
+ Support development of drawings, reports, calculation packages, and specifications
+ Perform pre-construction and construction-phase site visits

+ Pursuing Bachelor's degree or higher in civil engineering, or relevant engineering degree
+ Sound knowledge of civil engineering fundamentals
+ Experience with CAD software

+ Ability to work in a multidisciplinary environment
+ Excellent planning and organization skills required for our fast-paced environment

+ Ability to gain EIT/ FE Certification within 1 year of graduation
+ Preference for transportation and infrastructure project work

This firm specializes in complex infrastructure and public works projects across Long Island and has built a reputation for delivering high-quality work across roadwork, utilities, site development, drainage, and related scopes.
We are seeking an experienced Senior Estimator to lead and manage the estimating process for competitive bids and negotiated work. While the company is prioritizing senior-level talent, we are also open to engaging with mid-level and high-potential junior candidates who demonstrate strong capabilities and have direct experience in the heavy construction or civil engineering sectors . Candidates must be based on Long Island.
Key Responsibilities:
- Estimate Preparation: Lead the preparation of cost estimates and bid proposals for heavy civil projects including roadway, infrastructure, and utility work.
- Quantity Takeoffs: Conduct detailed takeoffs and cost analysis from engineering and construction plans.
- Subcontractor Coordination: Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and vendor pricing; prepare comparative analyses and recommendations.
- Bid Strategy: Attend site walkthroughs and pre-bid meetings; contribute to strategic bid approaches and risk assessments.
- Documentation & Organization: Maintain detailed bid files and support bid submissions with clearly documented pricing, scopes, and assumptions.
- Mentorship & Collaboration: Collaborate with project managers and executives; mentor junior estimating staff as appropriate.
- Experience:
- Senior Estimator: 8+ years in heavy civil construction estimating.
- Mid-Level Estimator: 4-7 years of related experience.
- Junior Estimator: 2-3 years with clear potential and relevant industry exposure.
- Note: Experience in residential, vertical commercial, or home improvement sectors will not be considered.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and InSite required.
- Experience with Bluebeam, AutoCAD, and HeavyBid highly desirable.
- Strong math and analytical skills essential.
- Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred. Equivalent hands-on experience will be considered.

+ Inspection of existing bridges, stations and other civil structures and preparation of reports
+ Analysis and design of structural systems and components using industry standard structural design software and preparation of formal design calculation packages
**Is this role right for you?**
**Required**
+ Pursuing a Master's or Bachelor's Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering
+ Coursework in structural analysis, advanced steel design and advanced reinforced concrete design
