**Land Surveyor**
Our Advanced Geomatics (ADG) team is seeking a Land Services (Intermediate) to provide enterprise-wide support in the areas of land surveying, cadastral mapping, survey control, easement preparation and review, topographic mapping, engineering surveys, and land survey plat and subdivision review. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with the ADG Supervisor and other field survey staff to plan and organize field surveys.
A day in the life of a Land Services (Intermediate) may include:
+ Perform land surveying work from field to finish using all forms of surveying equipment, total station, GNSS, Lidar scanners, and drones
+ Conduct research on easements and property boundaries, prepares legal descriptions and exhibits
+ Create topographic maps and drawings in support of Colorado Springs Utilities' engineering groups
+ Perform drone inspections of Colorado Springs Utilities' infrastructure
+ Maintain equipment and assists as directed
+ Process Lidar and photogrammetry data
+ Assist with dam deformation surveys
+ Review proposed plat and easement from outside sources
+ Enter and edit Landbase data in GIS
+ **_Please note that a significant amount (~50%) of this position's time is comprised of fieldwork where you may be subject to changing weather conditions. This position also requires performing labor-intensive tasks, including but not limited to clearing brush, laying out stakes, and transporting survey equipment_**
**Who You Are:**
+ An accredited Land Surveyor in Training (CO) or Professional Land Surveyor (CO) is highly valued
+ Experience with land survey equipment and technologies, including Civil 3D, Trimble survey equipment, Trimble Business Center, and the Colorado State Plane Coordinate System, is valued
+ Possession of a FAA Pt 107 Certificate is required, **OR** the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire
+ Knowledge of construction and utility infrastructure terminology is valued
+ Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and supporting documentation is valued

Kimley-Horn is seeking a Professional Land Surveyor with 5+ years of experience to join the Kansas City, Missour (MO) office! This is not a remote position.
**Responsibilities**
+ Conducting field surveys using advanced surveying instruments and technology to accurately measure and record land boundaries, topographic features, and geographic coordinates.
+ Analyzing survey data, maps, and legal documents to determine property lines and boundaries, resolving discrepancies or ambiguities as needed.
+ Collaborating with engineers, architects, and other professionals to provide accurate survey data and support various construction and development projects.
+ Utilizing Global Positioning System (GPS) technology, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and other surveying software to process and manage survey data efficiently.
+ Preparing detailed survey reports, maps, and legal descriptions for clients, government agencies, and other stakeholders.
+ Conducting research on property deeds, historical records, and land titles to gather essential information for surveying projects.
+ Ensuring compliance with relevant surveying standards, regulations, and safety protocols during fieldwork and data processing.
+ Providing expert testimony and survey evidence in legal disputes related to property boundaries and land issues.
+ Staying updated on the latest advancements in surveying technology and techniques to enhance surveying processes and accuracy.
+ Maintaining and calibrating surveying equipment to ensure reliable and precise measurements.
+ Demonstrating strong communication skills to liaise with clients, stakeholders, and team members, and effectively communicate survey results and findings.
**Qualifications**
+ 5+ years as in Land Surveying position
+ Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) licensure preferred, or ability to obtain within 1.5 years
+ Working knowledge of Civil 3D and/or Carlson
+ Ability to work independently and in a team environment
+ Ability to manage multiple projects at one time
+ Valid driver's license

**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS**
**Education**
+ Bachelor's Degree in, Geomatics, Geospatial Technology, Surveying, Geography, Mathematics, Science, Engineering, or a relatedfield.
+ In lieu of a Bachelor's Degree, a High School Diploma or GED and four (4) years of experience conducting, processing and analyzing survey data applicable to geodetic, civil, construction and/or land surveys using automated survey techniques, survey related computer software, and computer aided drawing, in addition to the experience stated below, will be considered
**Experience**
+ A minimum of four (4) years of professional Land Surveying experience, to include experience conducting processing and analyzing survey data applicable to geodetic, civil, construction and/or land surveys, using automated survey techniques, survey related computer software, and computer aided drawing software
+ Demonstrated knowledge in right-of-way, subdivision, engineering design, field surveys and survey instrumentation at a Land Survey Party Chief level or higher.
**Certification/Licensure**

**Mission Essential Designation**

Incumbents in this role may be required to report to or continue to work in the event of authorized office closings or service suspensions due to severe weather, natural disaster, fire, operational emergencies or related events.
**SUMMARY**
The Land Surveyor is responsible for accurately researching, reviewing, computing and writing legal descriptions for WMATA property acquisition and disposal. The incumbent effectively coordinates and approves all land surveying activities within WMATA. The incumbent prepares land surveying related documents using state of the art hardware and software which shall include use of advanced CAD systems. The incumbent has latitude for exercising professional judgement and taking appropriate action within established guidelines.
**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS**
+ Reviews boundary, easement, legal descriptions, topographic and planimetric survey data for accuracy and completeness.
+ Prepares boundary and easement survey drawings and legal descriptions using CAD and survey engineering computer programs and may be required to seal and certify legal instruments for WMATA's intended use.
+ Performs survey work in accordance with jurisdictional requirements.
+ Reviews and prepares a variety of technical survey reports
+ Participates in the preparation and identification of real property interests required for the METRORAIL and METROBUS system.
+ Makes field investigations prior to, during, and after the performance of assigned survey work to provide surveying oversite and input as required to in-house survey staff and contracted survey staff.
+ Ensures compliance with appropriate survey procedures and standards.
+ Prepares and reviews scope of services for survey contract work and recommends revisions to ensure that the services provided reflect the Authority's current needs.
+ Recommends computer hardware/software procurement to support automation program and other survey activities within WMATA. Interfaces with hardware and software vendors as needed to resolve computational problems and hardware/software deficiencies and conflicts.
+ Reviews procedures and equipment proposed by survey contractors to insure they will achieve accurate survey results. Reviews survey contractor results for technical accuracy and completeness.
+ Serves as a source of support to the Authority for all survey related matters.
+ Assists in preparing survey cost estimates for in-house and survey contract services, establishes and maintains hard copy and digital survey files.
