**Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems** located in **Palmdale, CA** has an opening for a **Subsystems Design Engineer or Principal Subsystems Design Engineer** .
The selected candidate will perform Subsystems design support on ECS, Fuel, Powerplant, Landing Gear, Harness, and Hydraulic installations. This position will be located in Palmdale, CA and is assigned to a 1st shift 9/80 work schedule.
The selected candidate will become part of the Subsystems Design Engineering team within the Vehicle Engineering IPT and responsibilities include:
+ Develop solutions to difficult problems that are thorough, imaginative, practical, and consistent with program objectives while keeping the statement of work and design requirements in focus.
+ Coordination and clear communication with other disciplines, customer, and suppliers during the development of design solutions.
+ Concise presentation and explanation of system design issues/solutions to internal management and customer representatives.
+ Development and review of completed models, drawings, and repairs for accuracy, clarity, and completeness.
+ Evaluation of engineering products for conformity to standards, procedures, and specifications.
**Basic Qualifications:**
+ Basic Qualifications for a Engineer include a Bachelors in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) and a minimum of 2 years of experience in Aerospace structural design OR an MS degree in STEM with 0 years of related experience
+ Basic Qualifications for a Principal Engineer include a Bachelors in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) and a minimum of 5 years of experience in Aerospace structural design OR an MS degree in STEM with 3 years of related experience OR a PhD in STEM and 0 years of related experience
+ Experience in a combination of Environmental Control (ECS), Fuel, Powerplant, Landing Gear, Harness, and Hydraulic installations.
+ Proficient in use of CATIA V5 (2D and 3D) R26 (or higher) and Team Center (Unified and Enterprise). Must be able to develop 3D CATIA Product Models, parts, and assemblies. Tasking will include design development of supports, LRU trays, cabling, and zone installation models. Must be familiar with cable routing techniques and requirements. Need to be familiar with use of CATIA Electrical Workbench to develop and route cables. Will be generating 2D Drawings, so must understand normal drafting practices in accordance with ASME Y14.5. CATIA Models and Drawings will be saved and managed through Team Center Unified, so must be familiar with using CATIA to Team Center Unified interface. Must possess understanding of drawing trees and indentured parts lists.
+ This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Secret Clearance as well as Program Special access (Program Special access not required to start)
**Preferred Qualifications:**
+ Secret or Top Secret clearance preferred.
+ 5 years or more Aerospace Subsystems design experience using CATIA V5.
+ Experience working on Special Access Programs
+ Experience working on military aircraft and MRB experience
Primary Level Salary Range: $89,400.00 - $34,200.00
Secondary Level Salary Range: 110,300.00 - 165,500.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.

The Optical Sensors Systems group within General Atomics - Electromagnetic Systems Group is developing the next-, state-of-the-art Electro-Optical/Infrared Sensor Systems to help defend our interests and support critical commercial enterprises worldwide.
Under limited supervision for routine work and general instruction for new or special assignments, using computer-aided design (CAD), develops complete major layouts of engineering drawings from predetermined basic designs in a field of specialization such as structures, mechanics, electrical, or electronics. Works from various forms of engineering input; makes mathematical calculations as required; determines proper layout of and prepares complete production detail drawings, assemblies, and installations; contributes design modifications to improve quality of product or facilitate manufacturing operations.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Working from engineering notes, verbal instructions, and rough or detailed sketches, prepares readable working plans, detailed drawings, parts list, schematics, and complete mechanical or electrical drawings of major components, systems, and assemblies for engineering or manufacturing purposes.
- Verifies own work, checking dimensions, making mathematical calculations as required using handbooks and catalogs in support of drafting calculations, materials used, and quantities.
- Determines drawing and view scaling required; inserts necessary reference planes, center and dimension lines, hidden line interpolations, and sectioning in the preparation of production detail drawings.
- Assures that detail parts and assemblies can be made and that parts and components will fit or interface properly within limits of allowable tolerances.
- Revises CAD or hand drawn board drawings as needed.
- Creates as built drawings through field examination of components or systems.
- Maintains records, files, drawings and part lists, specifications, standards, and other data essential to the completion of engineering drawings as required.
- Responsible for observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.

Job Qualifications:
- Typically requires a high school diploma or a certificate from a recognized organization certifying completion of a training program utilizing technical engineering software applications and three or more years of work experience. May substitute additional education in lieu of work experience.
- experience utilizing CAD software with at least five of those years spent utilizing ProEngineer, Solidworks, NX or related engineering design software
- Must have proven experience in advanced drafting techniques and be skilled using 3D CAD solid modeling with a basic working knowledge of manufacturing or operational processes and equipment.
- Must be familiar with industry practice and standards.
- Requires proficiency in use of math including algebra, plane and solid geometry, and trigonometry as might be acquired through high school and/or trade school studies.
- Must have good oral and written communication skills to communicate ideas and for presenting results along with a good knowledge of computer operations and software relevant to drafting and design tasks.
- The ability to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information and the ability to work both independently and in a team environment is essential as is the ability to work extended hours as required.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance is required
