The **Medical Assistant** performs a variety of back office activities to assist providers in conducting quality clinics, including administering injections, diagnostic testing, phlebotomy, quality surveys and various other procedures. **Primary Responsibilities:**
+ Administering injections
+ Diagnostic testing
+ Phlebotomy

The Medical Assistant 3 is the first point of contact for patient care. Responsible for administrative duties in addition to patient care. The Medical Assistant 3 performs varied activities and moderately complex administrative/operational/customer support assignments. Performs computations. Typically works on semi-routine assignments.
The Medical Assistant 3 performs clinical duties such as discussing symptoms and gathering and inputting information into the electronic medical records system, taking vital signs, giving injections, performing diagnostic tests, collecting specimens, drawing blood, sterilizing and cleaning equipment, and maintaining examination rooms at an outpatient care site. Collaborates closely with Physicians and Nurses. Delivers direct patient care dependent on what active certification allows. Decisions are typically focus on interpretation of area/department policy and methods for completing assignments. Works within defined parameters to identify work expectations and quality standards, but has some latitude over prioritization/timing, and works under minimal direction. Follows standard policies/practices that allow for some opportunity for interpretation/deviation and/or independent discretion.

**Job Description:**

**Job Description:**
A Medical assistant has accountability for providing care to patients in an ambulatory clinic setting. This will involve caring for patients with acute and chronic needs. A Medical Assistant will be responsible for communicating clearly with patients seeking care through different modalities including telephone and in-person interactions.

+ Current Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers. Must be obtained prior to start date
+ Demonstrated basic computer skills involving word processing and data entry.
+ Professional manner and strong interpersonal and communication skills.
+ Ability to work collaboratively with patients and fellow caregivers to deliver the highest level of customer/patient satisfaction.
+ Ability to protect privacy, confidentiality, and Protected Health Information (PHI) of patients, members, and caregivers.
+ Utah Only: If certified with less than one year of MA experience, caregivers may attend a yearlong MA residency program

+ Experience in an outpatient clinic or other healthcare setting.
+ Computer literacy in using electronic medical records (EMR) systems and other relevant software.
+ Current national MA certification from one of the following national MA certifications or registrations: Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) of AMT, National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA), Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) of the AAMA

**Additional Details:** This InstaCare is open 7 days per week, 8a-8p, including most holidays. Medical Assistants shifts generally 7:30a-8p with a one hour lunch three days per week, with a partial day to get to 40 hours. We make every effort to accommodate schedule preferences, but do not guarantee set schedules. The candidate will need to be able to work evenings, weekends, and some holidays with differentials paid per Intermountain policy.

**Job Summary and Qualifications**

**As a Medical Assistant, you will:**
+ Prepare patients for examination and treatment by taking patient histories and vital signs
+ Prepare exam and treatment rooms with necessary instruments for your patients including preparation and maintenance of supplies and equipment for treatments, including sterilization
+ Give injections, and assist with lab testing and phlebotomy needs
+ Assist physicians in applying splints, dressings, and bandages

**You Should Have:**
+ 1+ year of experience in a clinical patient setting is preferred

+ Certification from the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) is helpful
