Essential Functions

  • Escorts patients to exam rooms in order of appointment times. Obtains short history and vital signs as required by patient's chief complaint. Obtains or updates patient medication list. Sets up exam room according to scheduled procedure or anticipate provider's needs if non-scheduled procedure is likely. 
  • Transcribes during visit and assures documentation of patient care to meet criteria dictated by legal practice, state health laws, and Medicare regulations. 
  • Assists physician with biopsies and surgical procedures. 
  • Educates patient as required after physician establishes the treatment plan. Ensures that the patient understands the treatment plan, understands the proper use of their medications, and understands their responsibility for compliance with the treatment plan prior to leaving the office. 
  • Straightens and cleans exam rooms after patient visits. 
  • Maintains patient records and charts 
  • Institutes emergency care appropriately, accurately, and professionally. 
  • Demonstrates proper judgment and decision-making skills when necessary and adheres to practice policies. (OSHA/HIPAA)
  • Monitor and complete lab documents, biopsy and culture book, telephone encounters and team task box within the EMR .
  • Handle all clinical phone calls in conjunction with the providers
  • Maintain and follow up with biopsy results for patients
  • Assists with autoclave procedures and quality controls
  • Complete clerical functions as directed such as: prior authorizations, schedule new and follow up appointments, answer phones, scanning documents into the EMR.
  • Travel to other office locations may be necessary  

Requirements  - Strong Communication skills, Strong team-Building skills, Ability to Multi-task, flexibility, Telephone skills, customer service skills, time management, organization, attention to detail, scheduling, word processing, professionalism, focus on quality, knowledge of basic computer software programs and knowledge of medical terminology  

Preferred - BA/BS in a relevant field, 2 years of experience as a medical assistant, 1 year experience in Dermatology, Current and valid documentation as a Certified (Registered) Medical Assistant or working towards gaining certification.

Cleveland Clinic Children's Outpatient Pediatric Center brings expanded care under one roof and enhances the patient and family experience. Most outpatient services are provided in the Center to offer a full complement of outpatient and inpatient pediatric care services available at Cleveland Clinic's Main Campus.
As a Medical Assistant on this team, you will collaborate with fellow staff to create a welcoming, comfortable environment for patients, families and visitors. You will assist with medication management, patient monitoring, administrative tasks and more. This position provides the rewarding opportunity to provide excellent care to pediatric patients helping ensure the best possible health outcomes.
**A caregiver in this position works days from 8:00 a.m. -- 4:30 p.m. OR 7:30 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.**
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
+ Assist with performing screenings and treatments by gathering and updating information related to health maintenance, identifying medication changes, updating allergy information, collecting specimens, performing tests and documenting patient care.
+ Monitor and communicate changes in patient condition.
+ Maintain equipment, medical supplies and examination areas.
+ Perform administrative/clerical duties, such as filing, reception, scheduling, data entry and patient registration.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
+ Graduate from an approved Medical Assisting Program OR military training as a Hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat Medic (68W) or Medical Service Technician (4N0X1)
+ Completion of a clinical externship OR extensive clinical experience
+ Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) upon or within new hire period
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
+ Successful completion of a Cleveland Clinic externship
+ Experience working with pediatric patients

+ Manual dexterity to operate office equipment.
+ May require extended periods of standing, walking or sitting.
+ Good visual acuity through normal or corrected vision.
+ Light Work - Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly (Constantly: activity or condition exists 2/3 or more of the time) to move objects.
+ Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job should be rated Light Work: (1) when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree; or (2) when it requires sitting most of the time but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls; and/or (3) when the job requires working at a production rate pace entailing the constant pushing and/or pulling of materials even though the weight of those materials is negligible.
+ Note: The constant stress and strain of maintaining a production rate pace, especially in an industrial setting, can be and is physically demanding of a worker even though the amount of force exerted is negligible.
**Personal Protective Equipment:**
+ Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
