About The Role

This position primarily provides medical expertise and consultative services to Life Underwriting. This position is responsible for risk assessment, protecting mortality, developing underwriting guidelines and providing medical training and education for the Life Underwriters and claims analysts. In addition to performing all of the duties of the grade 23 Medical Director, this position reviews and underwrites the larger, more complex applications for life insurance and unlimited amounts for Life and AD&D claims.

Responsibilities

  • Provide medical information/decision-making in a variety of settings and act as Medical Authority second only to physicians. Serve as a very experienced individual contributor and provides functional guidance to Life Underwriters, claim analysts and less experienced medical staff; assisting the Chief Underwriter in mentoring and training.
  • Provide medical underwriting consultative services primarily to Life Underwriting, Claims, committees and special projects
  • Enhance department reputation and maintain/improve customer appreciation and perception of medical underwriting services via timely medical underwriting recommendations with emphasis on quality risk assessment and maintaining an open door policy of availability
  • Provide strategic medical underwriting support for corporate projects
  • Provide on-going education and training to the underwriters via informal case discussions, explanations and clarifications in medical referrals, local informal or business-wide formal presentations
  • Provide information/consultations as needed to the field agents; provide current medical information to producers as it relates to current underwriting practices through field communications and publications; participate in distributor meetings as needed to educate producers about medical aspects of underwriting
  • Continually surveil the content and quality of medical referrals/discussions to identify underwriting trends and training needs in specific areas and coordinate with underwriting management to set up training classes for groups and individuals
  • Assist the Underwriting team managers in assessing the competency of the underwriting staff
  • Serve as an integral member of the internal medical audit team; responsible for auditing of medical consultants; provide consultative services to the underwriting audit team
  • Assist the Chief Underwriter in continuously reviewing, updating and/or revising the underwriting manual
  • Assist the Chief Underwriter in effectively communicating and defending adverse findings in response to physician rebuttal letters

Skills And Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree preferred along with a degree or diploma in a medical field
  • Exemplary understanding of medical terminology, human biology and anatomy, common medical conditions
  • Advanced understanding of the life insurance industry; excels at underwriting impaired risks; competent in analyzing death claims; familiarity with LTC and Disability Underwriting
  • Ability to interpret resting EKGs and graded exercise tests
  • Strategic planning skills
  • Excellent people skills with strong orientation to customer service; ability to work with all levels of employees, managers and internal and external customers; ability to work in a team environment

Compensation

The anticipated salary range for this position is $160,000 to $80,000 (CA,D.C, HI, IL, MD, MN, NJ, NY, VT, WA) at the commencement of employment. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. The actual compensation offered will ultimately be dependent on multiple factors, which may include the candidates geographic location, skills, experience and other qualifications. In addition, the position is eligible for a discretionary bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable incentive plan.

The Medical Director (Spine) will be a Subject Matter Expert (SME) with a background in Orthopedic Spine OR Neurosurgery, including post-graduate direct patient care experience specifically.

Expands Aetna's medical management programs to address member needs across the continuum of care.

Supports the Medical Management staff ensuring timely and consistent responses to members and providers.

Leads all aspects of utilization review / quality assurance, directing case management Provides clinical expertise and business direction in support of medical management programs through participation in clinical team activities.

Acts as lead business and clinical liaison to network providers and facilities to support the effective execution of medical services programs by the clinical teams.

Responsible for predetermination reviews ad reviews of claim determinations, providing clinical, coding, and reimbursement expertise, using multiple computer based applications.

Required Qualifications

  • 2 or more years of experience in Health Care Delivery System e.g., Clinical Practice and Health Care Industry.
  • Active and current state medical license without encumbrances.
  • M.D. or D.O.,Board Certification in a Orthopedic Spine OR Neurosurgery, including post-graduate direct patient care experience specifically.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous healthcare insurance experience.

Education

  • 2 or more years of experience in Health Care Delivery System e.g., Clinical Practice and Health Care Industry.
  • Active and current state medical license without encumbrances.

Pay Range

The typical pay range for this role is :

174,070.00 - $374,920.00

This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above. This position also includes an award target in the companys equity award program.

**Responsibilities**
The HME Specialist I position is the first of multiple career opportunities within the Mayo Clinic Stores. Assists patients with product selection and training of home medical equipment in accordance with provider prescriptions. Gathers registration and insurance information accurately and efficiently, and processes information for payment according to payer requirements. Handles private patient information in a compliant and confidential manner. Assists with maintaining store inventory including inventory cycle counts and perpetual inventory. Performs duties of the job in a manner that is attentive to age and ability considerations of the patient. May provide patients with mobility aides, breast pumps, CPAP machines and supplies, over the counter compression or braces training, ostomy supplies, urology supplies, wound care supplies and oxygen services, or other durable medical equipment or medical supplies depending on store location. May be assigned to working on the medical supply store floor or in a call center environment.
During the selection process, you may participate in an OnDemand (pre-recorded) interview that you can complete at your convenience. During the OnDemand interview, a question will appear on your screen, and you will have time to consider each question before responding. You will have the opportunity to re-record your answer to each question - Mayo Clinic will only see the final recording. **Qualifications**
High school diploma or equivalent. Prior customer service, sales, healthcare, or patient care experience preferred. Prior DME experience is preferred but not required. Effectively reads, writes, speaks and understand English. Able to learn technical tasks and able to follow written and verbal directions. Comfortable utilizing technology, problem solving and efficient with software applications. Exceptional customer service and communication skills with high level professionalism and ability to have crucial conversations. Proven ability to multi-task and make good decisions regarding customer service. Must be able to work independently as needed. Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid and/or private insurance billed preferred with attention to detail. Physical and mental stamina to be able to withstand what can often be a fast-paced environment; may be on feet or sitting on feet 90-100% of the time. Must be able to tolerate repetitive hand motion. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. Must be current on all applicable annual competencies. For locations requiring driving a company vehicle, must have a valid driver's license and a clean driving record.

  • CPR (BLS for the Healthcare Provider/Professional Rescuer or ACLS-the copy must include the front and back of card as applicable) Certification must include hands on evaluation of skills by the trainer/instructor. Total on-line courses will not be accepted. Course must also meet the American Heart Association (AHA) standards but need not be an AHA certificate.

Experience

  • 3 5 years minimum in family practice, emergency room, ambulatory care, or occupational health settings
  • Minimum 3 years management/leadership experience within the healthcare industry may be preferred
