**Job Summary**
We are seeking a strategic and technically adept Director of Software Engineering to lead the Networking team within the NLS (Networking Layers and Storage) organization. This role will drive innovation and execution across ONTAP's networking stack, including control and data planes, NIC and offload technologies, and cloud networking features. The ideal candidate will be a proven leader with deep expertise in networking software, people management, and cross-functional collaboration.
**Job Responsibilities**
+ Lead and grow a high-performing engineering team focused on networking features, performance, and quality across ONTAP platforms.
+ Define and execute technical strategy for networking software, including FreeBSD-based stack, NIC drivers, RDMA, and offload technologies.
+ Collaborate with product management, QA, and other engineering teams to deliver scalable, resilient, and performant networking solutions.
+ Drive architectural decisions and ensure alignment with ONTAP's hybrid cloud strategy.
+ Mentor senior managers and engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
+ Manage resource allocation, project prioritization, and delivery timelines across multiple initiatives.
+ Represent the networking team in executive reviews, roadmap planning, and customer engagements.
+ Partner with vendors and internal stakeholders to ensure timely delivery and integration of third-party components.
**Education & Required Experience**
+ Typically requires a minimum of 12 years of related experience in software engineering, with 5 years of people leadership experience
+ Proven track record of managing large-scale networking software projects and teams.
+ Strong understanding of networking protocols (TCP/IP, iSCSI, NVMe, RoCE, Infiniband), NIC architecture, and cloud networking.
+ Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
+ Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
**Preferred Experience (in addition to requirements)**
+ Experience with ONTAP or similar storage platforms.
+ Familiarity with hybrid cloud environments and cloud-native networking.
+ Background in performance optimization and resiliency engineering.

Compensation:
The target salary range for this position is $241,000-$300,000. The salary offered will be determined by the candidate's location, qualifications, experience, and education and may be outside of this range. Final compensation packages are competitive and in line with industry standards, reflecting a variety of factors, and include a comprehensive benefits package. Job Description:
As part of the team, you will join a team of 30-Tier 3 Customer Support Engineers. These engineers specialize in one or more core technologies while understanding the foundations of network products, protocols, and effective methodologies. As a member of this team, you will be part of a collaborative team to provide support during critical network issues as well as leading a caseload of lower critical issues, specifically with Cisco Call Manager.
Day to Day Responsibilities:
The successful Technical Services Engineer will effectively assess the customer's situation and help develop an action plan that will result in a resolution. *This is an operations role, not a design/architecture role.* This is heavy interaction with customers and troubleshooting the issues, via phone, chat, email. This role is NOT a help desk role. This person will be doing higher level troubleshooting that requires the SME to be very technical, working with multi-vendor, integrated solutions.
- 50% of the day (4 hrs) will be spent taking customer calls for support that fall within the network monitoring space. This will be operational and reactive. As cases
come in, this person will work them to resolution according to priority level.
- 50% of the day (4 hrs) will be spent working backlogs (cases that have accumulated and need to be resolved). This may involve working with other engineers
and/or in the virtual lab to reverse-engineer the customer's issue to derive troubleshooting steps for resolution.

The Role

The ATM (Application Traffic Management) Network Engineer will be responsible for the overall F5 & AVI Load Balancing design and providing secure connectivity solutions to the client allowing Business teams and customers to be more competitive, more productive, and more profitable in a global business environment. These responsibilities include designing new enterprise solutions, enabling new customer connectivity, securing the environment through tactical change management, as well as working in a cross-organizational fashion to consult and enable these services. This position will require a disciplined approach towards ITSM methodologies ensuring the delivery of information technology services to meet the needs of the business community.

  • Manage, support, and design F5 and load balancing solutions for critical applications running on-prem, at multiple CSPs, and hybrid environments.
  • Consult with business partners on best practices and options with the various technology platforms.
  • Troubleshoot complex issues related to the Application Traffic Management environment (F5 and AVI)
  • Shift -oriented operations support, in collaboration with network operations and network engineering teams.
  • Work closely with business partners and other Global Network Services team to ensure 24x7 availability.
  • Member of 3rd level engineering escalation on-call rotation.
  • Escalate issues as needed.

The Expertise and Skills You Bring
  • A minimum of 4-6 years' engineering experience installing, configuring, and supporting load balancing technologies, preferably F5, HA Proxy, and/or VMWare/AVI.
  • Deep knowledge of Traffic Management platforms
  • Automation experience, eg. Ansible, Python (a plus, not required)
  • Extensive knowledge of TCP/IP, including application knowledge.
  • Network Engineering and Troubleshooting skills
  • Application Traffic Analysis
  • Routed/Routing Protocols: BGP, OSPF, MPLS, VRF, VPNs - a plus
  • Enterprise Security Policy knowledge and best practices
  • Agile methodologies and framework
  • Network certifications a plus but not required.
  • Works well independently and as part of a team; ability to lead a project.
  • Enjoys working directly with customers and solving their technical problems.
