Must-Have:
Central line care/management
Continuous IV sedation
Emergency medications
General Emergency Department-Combined Adult/Pediatric
Interpretation of dysrhythmias
Isolation precautions
Management of dysrhythmias
Management of patients with multisystem organ dysfunction/failure
Phlebotomy
Procedural sedation administration
Starting and maintaining IVs
Triage
Ventilated patients
Description:
Unit diagnoses include but are not limited to hypertension, diabetes, congestive heart failure, end-stage renal disease, coronary artery disease, abdominal pain, ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI)/Non-ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction (NSTEMI), pulmonary embolism, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and behavioral health.
Weekend coverage is required every other weekend.
No call duty is expected.
Travelers may be floated within the facility/scope of practice as needed.
The unit accepts first-time travelers.
If one major holiday falls during the assignment period, the traveler is expected to work it.
If two major holidays occur, the traveler must work both.
If three major holidays occur, the traveler is expected to work two of the holidays.
Major holidays include Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Christmas Day, and New Year's Eve/New Year's Day.
Full compliance is required to start on time; non-compliance might result in a two-week pushback due to the bi-weekly orientation schedule.
Local candidates are accepted at the same rate.
Two supervisory references are highly preferred at the time of submission.
Must be available to submit core items and complete/schedule labs within 48 hours of signing the contract to ensure an on-time start.
Travelers must be away from previous facilities for one full year to return.
Modules are non-billable and will be completed during orientation.
Modules vary by specialty and are recorded via transcripts.
Daily census is approximately 150 patients.
The unit includes various patient age groups from neonates to geriatrics.
Staffing and scheduling follow the guidelines of the unit's policies.
Interdisciplinary support includes physical therapy, respiratory services, interpretation services, phlebotomy, radiology, social services, rapid response teams, pharmacy, transportation, and unit secretary support.
The facility is designated as a Level I and Level II trauma center.

Our 12-month, comprehensive, transition-to-practice program facilitates your progress from student to professional nurse through education, mentorship and peer support. Our Nurse Residency program prepares new graduate nurses by teaching the knowledge, skills and behaviors that are necessary to continuously improve quality and safety at the point of care. It combines precepted orientation, led by dedicated preceptors, with blended learning experiences.
Nurse residents will:
- develop the clinical judgment needed to rapidly recognize a change in patients condition and the urgency of a clinical situation
- cultivate excellent communication skills, allowing them to engage with colleagues and support patients
- enjoy cohort experiences designed to promote peer and professional socialization and strengthen your professional commitment to nursing
